Backup File Size
I've suddenly noticed a huge increase in the file size of my backups - going from 186 mb on 12 December to 451 mb when I next back up 2 days later. Since then, it's always been the larger size. Is there a way to compact the file to eliminate 'white space', etc.? I certainly didn't do an enormous amo...

Multiple Address report
When one selects more than one address from the list of addresses, the 'Where Used' button is greyed out. Is there a query to overcome this? If not, can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm looking to try to produce a 'timeline' of, say, a particular street so I can see who lived where in wha...

Attach sources elsewhere
I'm getting on great with FH - it's a really good program. I do have a couple of things perhaps I'm not getting hold of though. I've been used to resourcing all aspects of the data I input, and it doesn't seem to be possible to do one or two things... 1) Add a resource to an alternative name, to sho...

Re: Sorting Children
Yes, I have a few 'batch' baptisms, etc., but I have to say the vast majority of my FT were christened at less than a year old. It would appear that many were christened at one or two months, or seemingly much quicker if they weren't expected to live (one or two days old in many instances). I agree ...

Re: Sorting Children
Yes, that's what I do at present (put a circa date in the birth). It's only that it's somewhat disconcerting when FH doesn't sort them at all if all the children have baptisms only. In the vast majority of cases, families tend to 'christen' their children in the UK when they are babies, so the assum...

Modify what appears in Focus Window box
I'm not sure what this box is called: FH1.jpg Under the name, it appears that the birth date is shown, or if blank, the baptism date, then the death date or if blank, the burial date, then the notes field. I was wondering if the lines that are shown can be modified by the user to show the fields the...

Sorting Children
I've seen several posts ref. the sorting of children, but haven't found any to cover sorting when only the baptism date is used. It would seem to me that if the actual birth date is not known, then the software should sort on the baptism date instead? If you have a large family to sort and say one o...

Open property box in new window
I realise this is probably something I should know, but on my PC when I 'undock' the Property Box into a new window, the sources show to the right, and are 'docked' to the Individual Property Box. However, this is the first time I've used my laptop, and I can't get the same behaviour. When I undock ...

Re: Source Window Focus - Keyboard Usage
I confess to being a bit of a 'lumper', although I do have separate sources for anything I have a certificate for. I only have one resource for each census, for instance, then add the picture of it as citation media as opposed to record source media - it works for me. I do the same for transcript re...

Re: Source Window Focus - Keyboard Usage
Agree. Tab does nothing in that instance. I do select the first few letters, which goes to the right place, and it's highlighted. I know it has the focus because the enter key then expands the selection - with the OK button still highlighted as well. When you're using both hands to type, It's a pain...

Source Window Focus - Keyboard Usage
I don't know about you guys (and gals), but I tend to be much faster using the keyboard than the mouse, and I am being frustrated by the following (one example of many): If I select 'Add Citation' from the Individual's Property window, the 'Select Source' window pops up, and I can start typing the n...

Query Language
I'm interested in learning more about the programming language used in Family Historian. I was a system developer when I was working, but can't recognise what the queries , etc., are written in. Where can I find out more about syntax and vocabulary (perhaps even a tutorial)? At the moment, I can't e...

Search for Orphans query
I have used the extremely useful 'Search for Orphans' query to find unrelated individuals, etc., but find that there are some people in the list that shouldn't be there...? My son and my brother, for instance. They are input correctly, as far as I can tell, so is there a way of interrogating the sys...

I added a record of a person and her daughter as unrelated (although I know they will be when I get back far enough). I added in the mother with birth year and source, then add the daughter with birth year and source. Now I notice that the property box doesn't change when I change the view from one ...

Facts not resourced
Before I get in too deep with the number of people in my tree, I would like to see if there's a way of querying all the facts to see a) if there is no resource attached, and b) to see if there is an image attached to the resource (N.B. Type 1 and type 2). Some items are added as a type 1 resource in...
