Custom Query for witnesses
I'm trying to create a query giving me a list of witnesses, but can only get as far as obtaining the first witness in the list. How do I get all the witnesses? Also how would you get a composite list of Individuals and Name Only witnesses? I have columns: %FACT.DATE:COMPACT% =FactLabel(%FACT%) =Fact...

Re: FH 6.2.7 Randomly closing
I can confirm that FH does occasionally shut down whilst trying to access FMP hints. It never does it other than during this process, so I'm inclined to think there is a glitch between the two systems. If you try to update FMP hints too quickly for instance, it hangs, then bombs out completely. I do...

Re: Place and address sentence construction
I have closed and reopened the project, and checked the 'All' tab which now shows a place but not an address, and it works, so once again, a big thanks for the help. I would have thought, though, that there should have been a simple function key to update the empty field, like F5 or F9, but still, t...

Re: Place and address sentence construction
I have a problem with the code given in the previous answer, since I can't get the if, then, else to work for the 'else' case... My code: {individual} was living {=TextIf( Exists(%FACT.ADDR%), Text("at " . %FACT.ADDR%), TextIf(Exists(%FACT.PLAC%), Text("in " . %FACT.PLAC%), ""))} which to me says " ...

Re: Adding notes to Named List
Thank you all - terrific responses as usual. That's just what I was looking for, although it wouldn't have seemed hard to me to add a label to that bottom pane to make it obvious.
Anyway - thanks again all

Re: Adding notes to Named List
I have, and within the section on Named Lists, it suggests that you can 'Create and add a Note Record', but I can't see how?

Adding notes to Named List
I use Named Lists for, among other things, Records Office research, so I have lists such as 'Records Office - Bristol' for instance. Having entered multiple individuals into multiple lists, I find it difficult to get back to the original reason I put that person on the list in the first place. Notes...

Fabulous! I've downloaded this software onto both computers and done the necessary - it now works perfectly.
Thank you!

Thank you!

Super! Thanks for the quick response. I think my trouble is that I spend so much time entering data, and not enough on how the program actually works lol. Thanks again

Re: Installing on 2nd computer
Ah! Yes, I see where you're coming from. On my laptop I only have the 'Standard' Fact types. By that token, would you constantly need to update one computer from the other when adding custom fact types, or could you simply set the path to a common Fact Type folder on One Drive, for instance?

Display different set of fact types
I may open a can of worms here, but in my experience in the Christian church, a baptism takes place when a person is old enough to know their own mind and partake in the event, whereas a christening takes place when a baby/very young child is introduced to the church by parents/guardians... Anyway, ...

Re: Installing on 2nd computer
Yes, that's true, but in actual fact I only use the laptop for visits to records offices/libraries, etc., so don't generally need to change anything there - as long as the records synchronise on my return, I'm happy.

Re: Installing on 2nd computer
Thanks for the quick response - and it appears you can do it by downloading the demo file. I've done that now and it installed OK. I don't need to worry about the migration process, since all the data is on One Drive. Thanks again

Installing on 2nd computer
I'm sorry to rehash this old question, but all the subject matter I've seen on this forum seems to revolve around a CD install. I'm sure I installed onto my desktop PC from a download, but now can't find it (I've 'cleansed' my PC several times since). I do have the registry key, but not an installat...

Re: Create custom query - find correct fields
Again, thanks for the response - that's a very clear and concise explanation, although quite a lot to get my head around. I will take your suggestions on board and try to work my way through to see where I get.
Thanks again

Re: Create custom query - find correct fields
OK. Thanks for the responses - perhaps I can rephrase to explain it better... I'm both a lumper and a splitter, in that I lump stuff like Census images under the generic source of, say, 1841 Census, and add the image as citation media in the Properties Box. However, I split too, in that all GRO Cert...

Create custom query - find correct fields
I've been using FH for a while now, and, as with all complex software, you don't know where you're going wrong until you have entered quite a few records. Then you have to revisit them to correct whatever the deficiency in your records is. I want to revisit all my records to further detail the sourc...

Re: Finding linked sources
Superb response, as always. Thanks ColeValleyGirl. Still learning this software, and as usual, there is an answer. The View->Record Links showed that I had it linked to a different person. I will download the plug-in though, to see if it's useful to me. Thanks again

Finding linked sources
I created a burial record picture, and discovered I already had it in my collection. When I go to the FH software, it's there as a picture, and I've created a source from it - all good so far. However, I can't see how to view what that source is linked to - and as has been proven before in this foru...

Change Focus window to that shown in property box
I think I must be missing a trick here, but when you search back and forward using the white arrows above the property box, the only choice you have to set the main focus window to that record is to select 'Go To Record' which takes you to the Individuals list with that person highlighted. From ther...

Running queries from code or another query
I've utilised a very useful piece of code to establish whether someone has a census entry: Exclude if %INDI.CENS[year=1841]% is null. I've created something like this for each census, and the result looks like the picture attached. Picture1.jpg However, what I would really like to do is run them all...

Re: Backup File Size
I'm backing up the whole directory. Yes, the culprit would appear to be the cache folder, which has several large .dat files in - the last one being the date in question. I can't remember doing anything that would have created that, but I'm assuming they can be deleted?
