John
Only just seen your lengthy reply.
Thanks you for that, I will download your query and see how I could make it work for me.

Re: Using the =GetLabelledText function
There does seem to be a discrepancy in these text functions. At present I have these common ancestors stored as INDI hyperlinks in my custom fact notes. =GetLabelledText refuses to extract the names presumably because they are rich text (as stated in the help file) =GetParagraph does seem to extract...

Re: Using the =GetLabelledText function
John Thanks for your advice. I think I am getting nearer to a solution and if I store the shared ancestor INDI number in the fact pseudo field instead of their name then the number gets extracted, converted into a proper %INDI% and displays a clickable link to the person in the column of the query r...

Re: Using the =GetLabelledText function
Forgot to add I had found the TextToNumber function and applied it to my cM values so they now sort as numbers instead of the previous sorting as characters.
=TextToNumber(GetLabelledText(%INDI._ATTR-DNA_MATCH_R.NOTE2%,"cM Value: "))
=TextToNumber(GetLabelledText(%INDI._ATTR-DNA_MATCH_R.NOTE2%,"cM Value: "))

Re: Using the =GetLabelledText function
Perhaps I didn't fully explain my wishes. As for the details in the custom fact note pdeudo field the INDI hyperlinks are important so I can jump straight to that individuals property box details. As for the query I was hoping to display the names of the common ancestors so I can sort on that column...

Using the =GetLabelledText function
I previously received some forum help to create a query to find my DNA matches recorded in a custom fact and display their relationship to me. I would now like to expand that query as I add a lot more DNA matched individuals. The custom fact holds the Ancestry user name of the DNA match within its p...

Re: Fact sentence starting with lower case
Why not replace the ".<individual>" with the word "and" so it reads:
He enlisted in the military in October 1774 and served in Lord Dunmore's War.
{individual} enlisted in the military {date} <in {_place}> and <served {=TextPart(GetLabelledText(%FACT.NOTE2%,"Served: "), 1, 0, TIDY)}>

Re: Adding marriage date / place to children in a family group sheet
Being pedantic, I think empty vs containing nothing is closer to object orientation theory, but I agree that no bucket versus empty bucket is a better metaphor for explaining it. Mind you, it’s nearly 25 years since I did that course (programming different coloured frogs to jump up and down using S...

Re: Property box icons

In the original thread "Property window unsourced facts" there was a side discussion about an existing wish list item "See Wish List Ref 577 Sentence Template Functions to Replace Codes" The consensus seemed to be this suggestion to replace all curly bracket commands with ...

Re: Property window unsourced facts
Thanks again Mike, I was close but again fell foul of FH wierd ways of doing things. Works now as I would like. I have only been using FH for a few years so have no historical experience of the program in its earlier stages but have been trying to form an understanding of how things work under the b...

Re: Property window unsourced facts
I was hoping to extend this a little more with another condition. {=TextIf(Exists(%FACT.SOUR%),"§","-")} Born {=TextIf(Exists(%FACT.ADDR%),{address},{_place})} I am trying to test for the presence of an Address and if found display it, if not, then display the Place instead. I can't seem to get this...

Re: Property window unsourced facts
I made another edit to my Facts along the way. When I edited my Occupation fact I added {value} to the end of the line so now the stored occupation shows in the list of facts in the property window. {=TextIf(Exists(%FACT.SOUR%),"§","-")} Occupation {value} I have also added the {address} term to the...

Property box icons
I would like to see an icon in the More column of the property box to display if a fact has a source/citation attached to it. Mike has provided a temporary solution to prefix each fact with a particular text character to indicate a sourced fact. This works well but a proper (larger) icon in the More...

Re: Property window unsourced facts
Mike That is an excellent solution. I have just tailored about 10 of my most used facts and the property box now clearly shows those facts with a source and those without. Incidentally I chose this symbol "§" to represent the presence of a source as it is just a little bit bigger and easier to see. ...

Re: Property window unsourced facts
I take it then that there is no means to display fact source status in the property window, as per the first part of my question. A shame because I think that would be very informative as an overview. A suggestion for the wish list perhaps? Thanks for the pointer to the query, I am exploring that now.

Re: FH7 - Text from Source - how to MODIFY table after initial save
But I've sometimes forgotten to click the "Fit" button before saving, so end up with excessively wide columns when viewing the Text from Source in FH. Look in the General Settings - Source Text screen of AS, there is a "Warn if Fit not used" option in case you have forgotten to use the "Fit" functi...

Re: FHUG Searching
A thought with regards to using the big search engines to search the FHUG site - Does FHUG have a sitemap? I believe a search engine, when visiting a website, will look for a valid sitemap file. If one is found it will take it away and use it rather than taking time to spider the whole website. If F...

Re: FHUG costs
My thoughts Like others I had not given much thought to the cost of maintaining the website nor had I noticed the rather small link to the donate page. Looking at the costs listed for the website the Algolia search fees seem to far outweigh the hosting costs by a factor of 4 or 5 and I do wonder if ...

Re: Relationship expression for a query
Mike The query was working and producing the results expected, it was just prompting me for the individual each time it was run. However I replaced =Relationship(["Individual"],%INDI%,TEXT,1) with your suggestion, in my case =Relationship(Record(30,"I"),,TEXT,1) because I am INDI 30. I also did the ...
