Re: Writing my first plugin
I have posted several scripts through the day but I presume you are talking about the one I posted at 19:57 that I labelled success. As you suggested I have just copied and pasted it back into a fresh empty editor screen, saved and run it. It works perfectly copying 3000+ dates from the marriage dat...

Re: Writing my first plugin
I can assure you the script works as shown. It was a direct copy and paste from the plugin editor. I previously created a query to find the marriage records in question with the result set showing the relevant fields. Each time I run the plugin I had the editor sat above the result set and saw the d...

Re: Writing my first plugin
Success! Strangely it didn't work with local dateptr = fhGetItemPtr(factptr,'_ATTR-MARRIAGE_WITNESS.DATE') until I changed it to local dateptr = fhGetItemPtr(factptr,'FAM._ATTR-MARRIAGE_WITNESS.DATE') adding the "FAM." to make the full fact/attribute name. This was my final code: function records(ty...

Re: Writing my first plugin
Yes, I was concentrating so much on detecting and creating the object I forgot to set its value. However It still doesn't work. I have altered the parameter sent to AllItems to be ('MARR','FAM'). Not sure if this is appropriate. I have tried to follow the progress using the debugger. I can see ptr p...

Re: Writing my first plugin
Mike
Just seen your reply and note the comment about not storing an empty text string. I will look at using fhDeleteItem(ptr) to delete the field.
As for my attempt at copying these dates it seems my general approach will not work using AllItems. I will have to think again.

Re: Writing my first plugin
To save confusing myself I have made this into two separate little plugins. I have saved the first one that does the moving of the text fields. This second one for copying the dates will be completely separate. Am I right in thinking blank fields such as these marriage witness dates don't exist empt...

Re: Writing my first plugin
I took a little break and realised my first part that was doing the move was doing so within a fact, from one field to another. That bit I managed OK, and have just realised the second part will be copying a field from one fact to another, so slightly different. I was trying to use the same code sni...

Writing my first plugin
I would welcome a little guidance with my first plugin. I am trying to move & copy some data within a particular fact. The move I have achieved but the copy bit I am finding a little harder. My starting point is the code snippet AllItems.fh_Lua The Fact in question is Marriage Witness and I wanted t...

Re: Import from Legacy - Places
I am using Legacy 9.0.0.282 which is the latest. This strategy is now working very well for me as it has brought to my attention quite a few more tags and data that I don't want to leave behind, tags that weren't naturally included in the bare gedcom 5.5.1. In the past I have used Legacy's feature t...

Re: Import from Legacy - Places
I am afraid that method didn't work, none of the _PLAC_DEFN tags were exported. Instead I started with the "Legacy" kind of gedcom and removed all of the tags that began with an underscore except _PLAC_DEFN and saved that as a re-loadable config. The Legacy generated gedcom now has a _PLAC_DEFN for ...

Re: Import from Legacy - Places
I have 3800+ entries in my Legacy Master Location list and I think a large proportion are geocoded but can't be certain (from within Legacy) as the mapping features are all now disabled. This is an entry as exported by Legacy, with the export dialog set for a "Legacy" type of gedcom. 0 _PLAC_DEFN 1 ...

Re: Import from Legacy - Places
I have been experimenting with Legacy generating a lot of gedcom files. I specifically included "_PLAC_DEFN" in the list of tags to be exported for a Gedcom 5.5.1 type but looking at the resultant exported file there was still no sign of _PLAC_DEFN anywhere. The Legacy export dialog loads with a def...

Import from Legacy - Places
Regarding the "Import from Legacy" knowledge base article and the advice to use the Convert Legacy Places plugin provided by Calico Pie. I created the Legacy gedcom following the knowledge base advice setting it for 5.5.1 and removing any underscore non-standard tags. I run this plugin and it report...

Re: Import from Legacy ~ Address Media
Thank you Mike. I will be giving it a try as soon as it is approved for download in the plugin store.
Good to see it incorporated into the advice given to Legacy migrants. I'm sure many will find it to be useful.

Re: Latest GEDCOM file changes
The Legacy history feature is really a breadcrumb trail to the individuals you have worked on. The "Go To" button allows you to jump directly to that person but it doesn't give any details of the additions/changes you may have made to that individual. Perhaps it is not exactly what was originally as...

Re: Latest GEDCOM file changes
Leagacy has a history feature which I have found useful in the past backtracking to my earlier work.
It is also saved when the program is closed.
Perhaps a suggestion for Calico Pie.

Re: Import from Legacy ~ Address Media
Again my thanks to you Mike.
That updated plugin now works perfectly.
All the media that were attached to Address records from Legacy are now recorded in FH with a single media record and many links to that record from each individual .
Kind regards
Robin

Re: Import Notes from Legacy
Thank you Mike for your reply, I didn't ignore it as I didn't see it. I was replying to Lorna's message but was taking a little time trying to figure out how to attach /include an image in a message. I think you posted your message while I was still (slowly) writing mine. I did see the section you m...

Sadly clicking that "Show Fact Notes" icon has no effect. These imported notes are only visible as a "Note Record" in the "All" tab.

Import Notes from Legacy

Legacy has a General/Research/Medical note feature and these appear to import OK showi...

Re: Import from Legacy ~ Address Media

I have no concerns about backups and data loss at this stage as I am still at the experimental phase. My working data is still in Legacy so I have importe...

Re: Import from Legacy ~ Address Media

Before I run the plugin I had 2749 media records and...

Import from Legacy ~ Address Media
Hello all I am a long time Legacy user who has decided to migrate to FH. I have purchased the full version of FH 6.2.7 I have been lurking on the forum for a while reading the excellent advice but have not seen anything for my problem. I have a large Legacy database (60,000+) and almost 3000 media i...
