Re: Flags
Well I was very close, by my reckoning anyway. I did try the =IsTrue function but I was trying it on FAM.SOUR instead of FAM.MARR.SOUR. Your solution is working nicely as a new column in the Family record window and as it works automatically I think I may use it instead of the manual flag that I cou...

Re: Flags
In this session I am working my way through my records ensuring I have a suitable source for each marriage certificate, recreating sources as I see the need and plan to manually tick the flag as I am satisfied with each certificate/event/source situation. So far I have been using templated sources i...

Re: Flags
The data reference FAM.MARR[1]._FLGS.__MARRIAGE_CERT% works perfectly in the custom tab, thank you. I can tick that manually when I possess a certificate for the marriage. The two expressions I presume are not intended for the custom tab as they reported errors of being in the wrong context. Are the...

Re: Flags

Yes I created the flag for the marriage event and was hoping to use that flag in a custom tab in the family property box to manually tick and indicate the presence of a marriage certificate.

Flags
I have created a number of flags for each a census or birth/death certificate etc. and have created a custom property box tab to show these various flags. I thought I would like to do the same in the family property box to display the presence of a marriage certificate, parish marriage, GRO marriage...

Re: Property Window - Unsourced facts (revisited)
Thank you both for your replies. I missed the explanation in the help file. The settings showing in the Individual property box is enough to show the source status, it just struck me as strange today seeing things from a different viewpoint i.e. from the Family view instead. I even went checking aga...

Property Window - Unsourced facts (revisited)
Earlier this year Mike was kind enough to help with my wish to indicate sourced/unsourced facts in the property box, see https://www.fhug.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=21443&p=133131#p133131 This spawned a Wish List request for Calico Pie to consider it further. https://www.fhug.org.uk/wishlist/...

Re: Ancestry Discount
Mine was up recently. I phoned in advance and asked for the auto renewal to be disabled. I pleaded my case and was offered a 30%, then a 40% discount. I asked for the offer to be left on my account telling them I would be considering my options which included the possibility of not renewing at all a...

Re: FH lack of color coding capability
For a simpler solution use the "Custom ID" field to store the #Blood Relative or #Direct Ancestor and configure the Record window and Property box to display the entry.

Re: FH lack of color coding capability
Bev A workaround while your suggestion is in the wish list being considered. Create a Note for each individual you want to mark as Blood Relative. Open the Rich Text window and use the toolbar feature "Manage Hashtags..." to add a new Hashtag called Blood Relative. Untick "Private" and assign text a...

Re: Given names or nicknames only
Generate your diagram as normal then right click and select "Diagram Options" from the menu. Select the Text tab and choose the text scheme "Name Only (Compact)". This may suit your needs but it does show First Names and Surname. If necessary the cloned text scheme can be edited to remove the "Surna...

Re: West Surrey Users
If you don't get any help locally then maybe you would consider joining a Zoom group that was set up just for Family Historian users. You can see and hear others explain their problems and see the help they receive. Screens are shared and users are guided through their problems. I am sure someone wi...

Re: Is it time to split the General Forum?
I agree the goal of the forum should be to make itself friendly and welcoming to new forum and new FH users but that may not be apparent from the outside, so to speak. That ought to describe every forum section.
A sub-forum labelled as Newcomers would perhaps show that sentiment up front.

Re: Is it time to split the General Forum?
A lot of the discussion in this thread seems to be about devising an approach where new FH users can find the help they need without necessarily having the product knowledge to correctly define their question using FH terminology. I am only a few years into my use of FH and can remember how daunting...

For naming media files you could always include an individual or family ID number in the filename.
It may not be immediately obvious who they are from the number but very easy to look up.

Re: Text Scheme Expression for Occupation
BTW: Do you need to cope with both 'Scholar' and 'scholar' or any other case variant? I think it is meant to cope with different uses of upper case so a comparison of Scholar to scholar doesn't fail. It converts all text found in the OCCU fact to lower case before doing its comparison looking for s...

Re: Using the =GetLabelledText function
John You have given me a further thought about what I am actually recording in the note box and how I could reduce it a little. I do like to see the common ancestors names in the note box and as links I can click to jump to them so didn't really want to give that up. To get that to work I intended r...

Re: Using the =GetLabelledText function
The restriction in the Help for GetLabelledText only applies to labels inside Rich Text Tables in Note fields.
