Re: Which template?
I think you need to try it. It looked OK to me but you may think not. I would modify the template to put 'citing' before the source of the source. Thanks, and yes, putting citing in is something I do now - this citation is an old one which I should have updated before posting it here. Would also he...

Re: Which template?
Thanks, Helen - yes, that is the main issue. While I do understand the EE method and have added some of its granularity to my own method, I find the order of elements far more difficult to keep in my head than those of the Strathclyde method. In RM if I leave fields blank, it looks weird in the fini...

Which template?
I'm trying to be better with my citation in FH, however the templates leave me a bit baffled. Which one would you use for this citation (written by me based on the University of Strathclyde method): Marriages (PR). Poland. Łomża, Podlaskie, Białystok. 07 Jun 1892. Hilferding, Jan Stanisław, son of A...

Re: Importing from RM8?
The underlying file structure has not changed between RM7 and RM8. They are both SQLite databases, with RM8 adding some new tables and fields to manage the additional features in the new version. Sensibly, RM have left the structure of existing features generally unchanged. I am testing the new FH-...

Thanks, Helen. I figured it would, but figured I'd check here rather than creating yet another new FH project.ColeValleyGirl wrote: ↑01 Oct 2021 06:50The version notes for 7.0.8.2 say it does a direct import from RM8 and I believe that includes the file extension change.

Importing from RM8?
So, now that RootsMagic 8 has been released, will Family Historian also be able to import files from this new version? The extension has changed from .rmgc to .rmtree. Not that it's a huge issue for me, but just curious, especially as I help people with their genealogy while at work (librarian) and ...

Thanks - will dotatewise wrote: ↑29 Sep 2021 16:05Teresa, see the FHUG KB Remember Current Record(s) where the Create Individual Shortcut plugin is mentioned.
That article was written before FH v7 which now provides a way to open the last record used.

Re: gedcom linking within FH 7
It is also possible to create Windows Desktop shortcuts that open a chosen Individual record in a selected Project. That would let you click a Desktop shortcut to open either 'family tree' Project, or even have both Projects open in two separate instances of FH at the same time. This sounds intrigu...

Re: How to make a 'clean' project copy?
<snip> I had not even considered this tool -- probably because, as you say, the name isn't exactly descriptive about what it really does! This has worked perfectly and I now have a clean copy of my original project to work on. However (and this is extremely nit-picky, I know) -- is there a way to r...

Re: Saving imported source templates
Looks good to me - will take some time to test everything. Thanks so much! Saves me a lot of time! It works on source templates imported from RM and also those created directly wit...

Re: Unicode in Notes?
I just tried copying directly from my word processor into a rich text note in FH, and same result. Similarly, I've been copying back and forth between documents in my word processor with no issue. However, I narrowed it down - it's an issue with Atlantis Word Processor. I opened in Word, then copied...

Re: Unicode in Notes?
Character map is slow and painful. Pressing and holding the key for a pop-up is better, but I still think I should be able to paste directly into a note and have the unicode characters preserved. Ah well, first world problems. Thanks for answering :) Teresa Teresa, have you tried entering the charac...

Re: Unicode in Notes?
Hi Jane, Thanks for answering. I pasted directly, so haven't tried entering from the character map...a bit frustrating as it's already typed out (in RootsMagic) and I'm pasting to avoid having to type it all again. Using the character map works, but it's slow and painful...not really a solution for ...

I'm working on my Polish side and have noticed that in notes, unicode isn't supported properly - the Polish diacritics are mangled

Not the OP, but, thanks Mark, for working on this...Will watch for the plug-in update :) Teresa By design, FH does not permit imported templates to be used in other projects. There is a plugin that provides this ability, but it needs to be modified slightly to make it fully compatible with the final...

Mine is with an "s" as well - I have my language on my Win10 Pro laptop set to US...interesting... I deplore having to us US, but for some things it's just easier. Re: Windows 11 Compatibility
As I understand it, Windows 10 support won't end until 2025, so I think CP has some time to work on this. I'm sure the programmers are aware and would also imagine they build the software knowing that the Windows OS will be updated from time to time.

I have noticed this is an issue with FH (also with RootsMagic) - it doesn't play nicely with tiled windows. I generally work only on my laptop, rather than having it attached to the second monitor, so tile my windows.

You can mark any fact you want to hide as hidden using Tools > Fact Types and Edit for the relevant fact. You can also add or remove them to/from the Fast-Add Menu, which might be a better option -- customise the Fast-Add menu to just the facts you want. Stupid question - I don't see HOW to add to ...
