Re: A couple of project questions...
Mike, Great info! I hadn't even known about daily snapshots til recently! Thanks again! I will also remember to run that plugin more frequently - I have it, but forget to use it as much as I should. As always, appreciate your helpful response...and endless patience. Teresa If you back-up everything ...

Re: A couple of project questions...
Hi Mark, Yes - the direct file transfer from RM to FH is huge...makes such a difference. 1) It appears I have Source Template Definitions - the verbiage is different from RM, but I've included a screencap, just in case I'm misinterpreting - I'm still trying to figure it all out, so please excuse the...

Re: A couple of project questions...
Thanks, Mike... 1) good to know :) 2) Thanks for the advice ... I will think carefully. As I hate having all eggs in one basket where software is concerned and continue to use RM as well, I imagine I will choose to link only. 3) As for backup, I should have been clear - I do frequently back EVERYTHI...

A couple of project questions...
1) Is there a way to copy source templates between projects? 2) Is it best to add the media to the project folder? Or just to link? 3) If we don't add media to the project folder, which backup is best? I've made a bit of a mess with the RM8 file I've imported into FH so want to start again, but need...

Re: 1921 UK census - how to reference a schedule from its Findmypast image?
Better overkill, than not enough and you realize too late in the future you (or a descendant), can't find their way back. I've included as much information as I can glean in my Strathclyde style citation. Evidence Explained is even more stringent! Teresa I prefer to use a reference number system tha...

Re: V7 Record Census Data (UK) - Ver 1.4
Hi Helen, Ok - I see how it works now. Very cool. Only thing is, I've found the citation still not complete. This is what I get: 1921 England and Wales census, 75 Defoe Road, Tooting, Wandsworth, London, General Register Office; 1921 Census Returns; Class: RG 15; Piece: 2391; Administration Area: 05...

Re: V7 Record Census Data (UK) - Ver 1.4
Ok, thanks...So this first "prepared citation" is just an example for the DEA to follow? I think that's what tripped me up.
Will have a go.
Thanks for your patience!

Re: V7 Record Census Data (UK) - Ver 1.4
The DEA works with the Essentials Census template, which is more or less based on the Strathclyde method. Does that not work for you? Sorry, Helen, I'm missing something...HOW do I start? Do I Create a Source from Template? When I tried that, I didn't see any way to bring up the Census from the Ess...

Re: V7 Record Census Data (UK) - Ver 1.4
Does anyone have a Source for the 1921 Census they can share so I can use the DEA (after preparing the citation)...I was going round and round with variations last night and haven't been happy with any of my results. I have hard time wrapping my mind around the source templates in FH compared to Roo...

Re: Newly added child will not sort according to birth date
I often read similar discussions and I would agree as births occur is a chronlogical order they should be sorted that way. I read users of other software who would be angered by such a change but I've always been afraid to ask why they would wish children to be sorted in a non chronological order i...

Re: dies after 1911 cant find not on 1939 Census
Preparation is definitely key...I blogged about just this on Sunday. It's really no different than a lot of the genealogy work we already do. Good to know that those search results will help people narrow down the possibilities - especially the names of at least one or two others in the household. Y...

Re: dies after 1911 cant find not on 1939 Census
I gather the Search results should give enough info for most people to make an educated guess which one fits their ancestor. That's where a lot of prep work comes in - make sure you have as many details as possible, use other record sets (electoral rolls, directories) to locate your ancestor, and ho...

Re: FH-RM-Ancestry Sync to exploit hints (update)
I'll be watching for it...Still haven't had time to try it. Am on vacation again in two weeks and hope to devote some time to my genealogy work (it's my birthday week, so I'm going to be selfish)...
Am really curious to see how this works.

Well, I must say I feel much better knowing this has you stumped as well, Mike!
At this point, I may just delete one of the instances in a copy of my database just to see what happens.
Thanks for the input!!

Re: FH-RM-Ancestry Sync to exploit hints (update)
All understood - I will play with it after my vacation (will be visiting someone, so little time for genealogy) and see how it goes. Thanks for the information :) Teresa All in the plugin, Teresa :). But to be clear on scope - it is not designed to keep a full project replicated across FH, RM, and A...

Further question - I assume it's safer to use the plugin in a copy of my project, not the master one?

Re: FH-RM-Ancestry Sync to exploit hints (update)
Just so I'm clear, all this happens within your plug-in? If so, that's very cool. Will be busy for the next couple of weeks but would love to play with this plugin as overall I find FH to be the superior program, but also want to keep my Ancestry tree current without retyping. Also, is there a way i...

Indeed - Google Translate isn't good for script. I've tried really hard to pick out the letters, but it's tough going.

Re: Which template?
Try using Google Translate to translate any language to English. Mike - you're correct, and for some records I have used Google translate. The Cyrillic however is particularly difficult as the handwriting, as Helen points out, can be very difficult to interpret. I'm not even sure of the letters, so...

Re: Which template?
Definitely - I know the first time I came upon it, it confused me as well! Even some of the Polish script is difficult to read - I remember that from my own grandmother's handwriting. As genealogists we do tend to run into some fascinating challenges. Even so, I've managed to get back to the early 1...

Re: Which template?
Thanks for the feedback. Glad my citation was good enough for you to find the record. The writing is beyond me as well - I've learned to pick out the names, but the Russian is such a pain. At least with Polish, I stand half a chance as I know enough to find the dates and the basics, but that Cyrilli...

Hi Adrian, Both those templates seem to indicate the same thing to me, hence my confusion. I clearly read them differently than you did. Your explanation helps clarify things for me - often I get don't see the forest for the trees when it comes to language like this. The Metryki website is very basi...

So, in essence, if I want a Strathclyde style template, I'll have to build it myself...
Definitely a learning curve, but when I have some time, I'll give it a go.
Thanks again
