Re: Freeform Citation Source Templates
Teresa, thanks for checking it out. I now realise that the collection name is taken from the name of the Family Historian Source Template file (.fhst) that's installed. I've reset it to User Written.fhst and updated the instructions accordingly. Glad I could help. I always love playing with the bri...

Re: Freeform Citation Source Templates
strange, if you downloaded Freeform Templates.fhst and doubleclicked it to install it, you should see Freeform Citation Template A and B on the screen you showed above. From there, you'd be able to add them to your current project. Did you get any message to say they'd been installed? Perhaps you c...

Re: Freeform Citation Source Templates
Is it possible that you installed the single template a week or two back? It's now been replaced by two as above. I just did the download and install this morning...From the bottom of this post in the KB: https://fhug.org.uk/kb/download/freeform-citation-source-templates/ Not sure when I went wrong...

Thanks for the templates
Alas, only one installed...I'm used to doing this, so not certain what went wrong.

Re: FH Backup Files new file type
I suspect the reason for this is to avoid less advanced users from extracting the gedcom by using windows explorer to open the zip and double clicking to open it, rather than using the Project restore option in the program. So, if for some reason we want to restore a new version of the backup file,...

Re: User-Written Source Templates
yes, makes sense! I've a freeform citation template I could contribute if anyone might be interested. It's what I was looking for when I started with V7. I'd be happy to upload it in case anyone would like to try it. Thanks, Kai...I use Strathclyde method, which puts the citing section before the w...

Re: How to edit a template already in use
Yes, just use the Tools > Source Template Definitions... command and View/Edit... the template. Then after Save use the Compare/Sync with Source Template Record... feature. <SNIP> The second step was one I missed for ages, as, in RootsMagic, the update is automatic when a template gets edited. Imag...

Re: Change citation template for an existing source
Thanks, Mike - I get it now. Not even sure I need to do it, but I'm trying to squirrel away as much information as possible, just in case :) It's good to know that for specific cases it can be done, but isn't practical as a global thing. T First, display the Records Window , open the Sources tab, an...

Re: Change citation template for an existing source
I think I may have answered my own question... I found that in the listing of Source Records under the Sources tab I can rightclick on the appropriate source and Add Template or, if there's already a template, I can click the + to the left of the Source Record, go to the Template line and and right...

Re: FH & My Heritage vs FindMyPast
My tuppence-worth: if you're looking for hints on European records (exc. UK) myHeritage will throw up stuff FMP doesn't have. If your focus is the English-speaking world, then you may not get much value form it. I agree with Helen, however, even MH doesn't seem to have a lot of IMAGES for Europe. F...

Re: Combining .jpg files together
With all this "editing" you should bear in mind loss of quality ,unless it is a jpg lossless action. That is why for editing I mostly work in PNG files (lossless), even converting jpg to png, working on it, then saving in png so any future edits should not affect quality. I for one am aware...I wor...

Re: Combining .jpg files together
Just out of interest I use Paint to join images and just takes a few seconds. I do it by having both images open in Paint, cropping them to what I want, add additional canvas to the primary image and copy and paste the second image, then just position it. I often do the same. For a basic programme,...

Re: Enter and cite a census using FH
Slightly off-topic but will someone please enlighten me as to “DEA”? I’ve seen it several times on the forum but can’t for the life of me work it out (and Google’s not much help). :?: Adding on to Jane's response, DEAs are plug-ins written by FH super-users. If you haven't explored them yet, I reco...

Re: AS v7.3 available to test
As Nick said, it's in the Reference ID box (Ref Id). What he didn't mention is that in the case of a baptism, which you are looking at, the Ref ID box is on the Further Info tab, just above the Other Info box you mentioned. Yes and it was on the screenshot you included! Thanks, Nick and Lorna - and...

Re: AS v7.3 available to test
Ok - THIS is where I get stuck. In my template there's a place for Reference information - WHERE in AS do I enter that? I've filled out all the other necessary information, but can't see a corresponding box for Reference, other than possibly the Other Info field on the Further Info tab, for, in thi...

Re: AS v7.3 available to test
Yes I think that's correct, you need to import it into your project first in FH and then into AS. Once you've imported it into your FH project, in AS go to the Source Template Editor, choose the source type and then click New and select the template from your file so that it can be imported into AS...

Re: Enter and cite a census using FH
As I mentioned elsewhere, a DEA is the simplest way to achieve within FH what AS does externally. If you're entering UK censuses, a DEA already exists and could be customised for other countries. If somebody wants to do so, I'm happy to give advice. I can attest to how easy the DEA is to use...I al...

Re: AS v7.3 available to test
Teresa, I think the way to improve the Footnote (& Bibliography) is to update the Format templates in the FH 'Church Register' Source Template via the Tools > Source Template Definitions... command. I don't think it is something that AS could or should do. Ah, I did wonder if that was the case. I'v...

Re: AS v7.3 available to test
ReferenceInfoNotShowingUp.jpg So, this is what I got in FH after entering a baptism for my granddad in AS. While all the information is there, the resulting footnote is rather skimpy, compared to the amount of detail I entered. Is there any way to edit the AS template to include more information, s...

Re: A couple of project questions...
Yes, you have Definitions, which makes life easier. FH saves all the Definitions in a Collection in a single file, which is what you can export and import as Mike described. That's a relief!! As you probably know, RM can export and import only single templates, each in its own .rmst file. Both FH a...
