Re: Source citation list no longer sorts correctly
Sorry to sound dim, but which is the "Source Selection window"? Teresa Hint: If you are adding a few regular Sources you can either copy and paste the citation (it has it's own clipboard) or set up an Automatic Source citation using a Prepared citation if you are entering a lot of information from t...

Re: Source tempates from Roots Magic
Though I've used FH for smaller projects for several years, I finally moved my main tree from RM to FH a few months ago. I wrote a blog post about the Source Template Editor in FH vs in RM - PM me if you'd like the link. FH is so much more powerful and flexible. I stuck with RM for a long time out o...

Web Clipper?
Earlier today I was reading a review of FH7 in the March 2021 issue of Who do you think you are magazine - at the bottom was a list of Pros and Cons. The final bullet point on the Pro side says: "Web Clipper makes it possible to import facts from most websites." I'd never heard of this and can't fin...

Re: Links in Research Notes...
I too come from RM - there are aspects of RM8 I like, but it just doesn't have the power and versatility I need - FH is so much better. Like you, I lurked for years, but have plagued the regulars here with questions over the last few months ;) T Thanks for the welcome. I have been a member of ...

Yes - thanks to Harold and welcome! Also glad to see my question prompted such a detailed discussion :) I hope it helps others in the future. Teresa Harold's first two posts have been spot on contributions rather than newbie questions - so no one has actually welcomed him - unless Mike beats me to i...

Re: Links in Research Notes...
Thanks for this additional information, Mike :) However, when I entered the address using the file// prefix, it did indeed open my document in its native program. Teresa It opens in a browser because the rich text option you are using is Add Web Link... and requires a Web Address which by definition...

Re: Links in Research Notes...
I asked before trying as I have a healthy fear of something going wrong and mucking things up... Teresa :) I have to agree with Harold, I have just actually tried inserting a "Web Link" (as CP call it in FH7) into a research note, using the format "file://D:\Documents\MySpreadsheet.xlsx" as suggeste...

Re: Links in Research Notes...
Thanks, David, for pointing that out...the link worked, but being able to add a file as Other Media is another tool in my toolkit...I'm still exploring the depths of FH :) Teresa With the Media tab open you can Add -> Other Media (change media type to all files in bottom right corner) to create a me...

Links in Research Notes...
I know the answer is likely "no", however, I figure there's no harm in asking.
Is there any way in a research note to include a link to a file on my computer hard drive?
Thanks
Teresa

Hi Mike, Where does one access the code in this plugin, or any plugin, for that matter. Thanks :) Teresa Yes, Jean. Afraid to ask what they'd charge for shipping to Canada, however, for those of you in the UK, definitely a viable option!

Re: Looking for archival storage boxes
It's horses for courses, isn't it, rather than getting obsessed about one method good and another bad? Precisely - even archivists know that the average person can't source and/or afford the optimum resources for storing our collections. As you say, for your personal notes, a good quality polypropy...

Re: Looking for archival storage boxes
I’ve wondered about using plastic boxes, but is there not then an issue with light exposure or off-gassing? Librarian here (not archivist), however, I know that in general archives avoid using plastic boxes because moisture can get trapped and cause issues. This is especially true if your storage a...

Re: Notes report...
Yes. I just also like the Notes tab :) It takes more clicks to go through facts etc to get to the information, whereas with Notes - it's all right there after one click. That's what I love about FH - so many ways to use it. T Do you realise that the Text From Source fields (that usually hold the tra...

Notes report...
I'm trying to figure out how to get a report of all the Notes for my 3rd great-grandfather. I only just (after all these years) discovered the Autotext feature (and love it), so added census info etc. Now I want a report. Am I correct that the only way to do this is via a Query? Or do I need to crea...

Lol!
