Re: Census UK Tab - my take

As Mike says, the best you can do is take a screenshot and insert the image in your notes. That's what I have done when wanting to illustrate census info for an ancestor/collateral in a blog post. FH screens translate beautifully to screenshots - I use them all the time in my work. Teresa <SNIP> If ...

Re: Diagram Text Box, Age When Married

Yes, please - most of that explanation left me flummoxed. Thanks :) Clearly, as I said, we need to work harder to make this stuff less confusing. But if you look at the example in the help ("Edit Text Scheme Item Dialog" page), where it explains the default conditions, when you add an item of data a...

Re: Simple recording of sources and/or citations

Words to live by indeed - I have been experimenting and have redone my work several times as I've learned more about the program. My database isn't pretty, I'll grant you, but at least the info is there. I won't live long enough to make it perfect, that much is for sure!! Teresa <SNIP> I think it is...

Re: Viewing and editing citations

Indeed they are a PITA...I have learned while gather citation information from all the major database sites to note the original repository and check ITS catalogue to make sure I have the details correct. There are errors at FMP, Ancestry, FS etc... And FMP is particularly bad about not including an...

Thanks for reporting these issues and updating us here! While issues like this can be amended manually, it's nice to have a report generate properly. I think that may be the correct way to do it by just posting the image to the discharged event. The Honorable Discharge is usually issued 4 years after discharge date at least for the Navy. You get it at discharge if retired.

Re: Another Findmypast 1921 census discount

- Many have mentioned the cost of scanning etc, why should it be any more than previous censuses, or the USA censuses, are we just being more "archival" aware, were they in a very bad state, other than the time element how could the Census act add to the cost. As others have said, it seems the stri...

Re: Another Findmypast 1921 census discount

Have you any idea how much FMP spent on the conservation work alone, not to mention the digitizing? Have you ever done that kind of work? Well, I have, so please be aware that it it cost a LOT of money and I'm glad they paid the archival experts the money they deserved to do the work. Scanning on th...

Re: Simple Citations Templates for Family Historian 7

<SNIP> Over the past 11-12 years, I have spent enormous amounts of time trying to covert my entire RootsMagic database to use Simple Citations. Re: Simple Citations Templates for Family Historian 7

Thanks, Jeff - I get it now. Overall I can see now that at least for the "non-traditional" sources, your template won't work as is, though I could edit it to do so, which, of course, defeats the "simple" aspect! OTOH, for the traditional sources it's perfect - I used it just the other day to cite pa...

Re: Simple Citations Templates for Family Historian 7

Sorry, Jeff, don't mean to sound thick, but it's not clear to me, especially as you're using US examples and the majority of my records are English/Scottish/Irish/Polish/Canadian. Re: source template error message

It would be nice if that was the error message generated, rather than one that just says (and I'm paraphrasing) "you're doing something wrong, but we won't tell you what". So many software packages do this, leaving the user to figure it out for themselves, or, in this case, ask for help on this foru...
