Re: 1931 Canada Census template
Glad it was helpful. Form 1a is what my family so far was recorded on, so it's the template I went with. At least they have a head start if they need 1 or 1b :) ETA: So, after responding, I was browsing Calgary, AB for my 2nd great-uncle, and noticed the forms are 1B... So I now have to create a 1B ...

1931 Canada Census template
Hi everyone, I have created an AS template for the 1931 Canada census. Please note, I have included all of the columns from the schedule, so if you are looking for something briefer, you will need to edit it. It has worked for me for the first schedule I've entered. I hope it's of use. As this is th...

Re: place fields
Do you have a screenshot of which window this is happening in? There are times when i fill in place names ( can't think of them offhand anymore-sorry) and I click on the next space and it just disappears! No matter how many times or ways i put it in. when it happens again, i'll try to respond more t...

Re: Allow citation fields in bibliography on sources
I'm hoping not to have to return to RM and am redoing my citations as I work (not sure I'll ever finish, but better than not trying!) Still, there's always an outside chance I might be forced to return to RM for some reason, so yes, a reminder/warning might not be a bad idea. Though my experience at...

Re: Save Diagram As Custom Dialogue
Agreed - I would find this useful, whether a drop-down or a pop-up. What about: When saving a new diagram as either a Custom Diagram Type or a Family Historian Chart FH should display the Diagram Types or Charts which already exist so that the user can choose to replace an existing one or create a n...

Re: Allow citation fields in bibliography on sources
Looks good to me :) <SNIP> How does the following sound? Proposal Allow citation level fields to be used in the Bibliography format of Source Templates. This would help users migrating from other products, but also new users who choose to adopt some level of 'lumping' when creating sources but want ...

Re: Edit a Census template column headings?
It just wouldn't let me - I tried typing in the field and nothing happened. Now, however, it is working. I must having been doing something wrong, though can't figure out what ... Thanks :) I am able to edit column headings on my templates for the census. Not sure why you aren't able to. Are ...

Re: Edit a Census template column headings?
Apparently all I had to do was ask on the forum. When I tried on my lunch break today, it wouldn't let me, but now it's working fine. Who knows ... I didn't do anything different just now ... Just glad it's working! Thanks :) Is it not possible to edit the column headings when editing a census templ...

Edit a Census template column headings?
Is it not possible to edit the column headings when editing a census template? For the 1931 Canada census, I copied the 1921 template and pasted to a new one, thinking that it would be mostly the same and I could just edit the headings and add or delete a column where necessary. I found I couldn't e...

Re: Ancestral Sources v.7.7.5 Testing (May 2023)
Thanks, Neil - I had seen that too. Image from the site Ken mentions is fuzzy in spots, so I can't read everything, at least not on my laptop. I'm hoping that the images at Ancestry and/or LAC are clearer. Guess we'll see. I will see if I have time to work on a French version as well. Thanks, Brian ...

Thanks, Brian - I have a general idea, but for the template want to see the real thing in order to figure out the rich text template :) I appreciate the link... If it helps Teresa, the questions asked are detailed in the following article https://familytreemagazine.com/heritage/canadian/1931-census-...

Re: Ancestral Sources v.7.7.5 Testing (May 2023)
I will see what I can figure out this weekend, after we've seen an actual schedule...should hopefully be able to use 1921 as an example and go from there... It won't be indexed when first released, but I should be able to track down at least a couple of families based on their addresses. Looks good ...

Re: Standard Fact Set
But not everyone married in a church...I too use the address field and enter the name of the church or the location the marriage took place. After reading the article Working with Places and Addresses, I am more confused. I have only changed 2 or 3 people's fields to contain the church name for thei...

Looks good so far - I've imported my diacritics from FH successfully
Dare I mention that the 1931 Canada census will be released this Thursday? I'm not sure how easy it is to add that year in the drop-down menu.
Thanks

Re: Family Tree
Hi Helen, Interested in your leaving your research to the SoG - I hadn't even considered that. Ironically, I'm the only one in our family with no children and, like you, I'm not sure my niece and nephews will be interested. I will look into this option as well - I'm assuming they want it in electron...

Re: New version of Ancestry Synchronization plugin
And also partly me not having the workflow for the plugin clear in my head... I need dedicated time to figure it all out and finding that isn't always easy. That's an interesting idea, Teresa. The plugin was originally designed to work strictly in the order FH > RM > Ancestry, by copying an existing...

Re: New version of Ancestry Synchronization plugin
This is good to know! One of many reasons I moved from RM to FH is the mess TreeShare was making of my tree (though not as bad as FTM's auto sync). At some point soon I'm going to make a copy of my main FH project and use the plugin - interesting to note that it can now help me find the incorrect da...

Re: Proposed Changes to the Forums
Could it not just be a clearly-labelled sub-forum? I understand you'll never stop people from seeing threads that confuse them etc., but if the sub-forum's description clearly says "this is for discussions about the mechanics of using Family Historian - very technical for more advanced users", I wou...

Re: Proposed Changes to the Forums
I mentioned the same thing. From time to time, I do enjoy reading the in-depth discussions, but in the middle of a thread, they can be a bit off-putting. But, I do understand why those with advanced programming skills/tech knowledge would want to engage in those kinds of conversations. A clearly mar...

Re: What is an objective definition of "Splitting"?
Sarah echoes my thoughts... This may be an example of the type of conversation that intimidates those new to genealogy and/or Family Historian. Unless Helen creates a sub-forum dedicated to philosophical discussion about gedcom etc., which most people will avoid unless it really fascinates them. So,...

Re: Is it time to split the General Forum?
Like Gary, I'm a migrant from RM (who has also used Legacy and FTM) and also one who was determined to learn how to use FH effectively and create a new workflow. While I'm not "techie", I do enjoy exploring new-to-me software and making it work for me whenever possible. Your point about new users ma...
