Re: Merge repositories?

Thanks, Bill - I'd seen that and had hoped there might be a faster way.

You can select the ones that you want to merge and then use Edit > Merge/Compare Records to merge them. You can only merge two at a time.

Re: Merge repositories?

I think it was the latter - part of the reason I gave up on TreeShare and RM, so many duplicates created each time I updated a person. Very frustrating. From what I can see, they all just say Ancestry.com, just linked to different citations - that's what worries me, though, in the end I'm in the pro...

Merge repositories?

Because I used (foolishly, it seems) the RM TreeShare feature for several years, I have many, many instances of Ancestry.com as a Repository. It's annoying. Can I safely merge them? Delete them? Or am I destined to have multiple copies forevermore?

Thanks.

Re: Amending Charts Query

Thanks to both the OP and to Lorna for answering - I had wanted to do this recently and wasn't sure how. Now I know :) To preserve your first chart, use Diagram > Save Diagram As > Family Historian Chart and give it an appropriate name. To create a new chart based on the first, save the same chart a...

Re: Non-English records

I haven't tried yet with my Polish ones, but I know I am working on a FH Source template that allows me to cite non-UK sources, which I'll import into AS. Can't predict when I'll finish it as my Polish line is far more complicated than my English one. There's no reason it shouldn't work in AS, thoug...

Re: Recording of citations using notes

I believe citations are widely used. Speaking as one who started off 30 odd years ago and didn't even think of recording sources (despite two degrees in history) because I was so excited finding records and seeing my ancestors' names, but who later realized I needed that information, yes, I did add ...

Re: source-driven data entry for 1921 census

I have done this and can confirm it works beautifully. I demonstrated entering a census to a library patron last week, showing her how I was able to use my own template, imported to AS from FH. She was suitably impressed. Also recommend Nick's YouTube Channel. If you have v7 of Family Historian, the...

Re: source-driven data entry for 1921 census

I concur. The source templates feature is fantastic and makes my work so much easier. I use them in conjunction with AS whenever possible, and alone for entries AS doesn't cover. They're super easy to clone and edit. That alone made the upgrade worth the money for me. It’s worth emphasising that whi...

Re: source-driven data entry for 1921 census

Why not continue using AS? Now that I finally understand how to use it properly, it's my go-to for entering events/sources. It supports the 1921 census. Are you looking for a source template? Having recently obtained a lot of data from the 1921 census I decided to upgrade to Version 7 of FH as it in...

Re: Add GRO Source plugin

I quite agree - it's one of the reasons I changed to FH. Other software users merely moan about what the software doesn't do/what it does wrong, while with FH, super-users who are good at programming come up with solutions, share those solutions freely, and, most important of all, cheerfully help th...

Re: 1921 England Census

I thought it was one row at a time, but either way, without being able to compare letters elsewhere on the page when unsure, it did make the transcription process quite challenging. I tend to use first names and approximate ages OR, if I'm fairly certain where someone lived, I search by street name....

Re: Customise main application toolbar

I had a sneaking suspicion that was true, however, as I prefer a clean look to the diagrams, I didn't dig any further. However, had I been writing a review, I would have checked before making such an assertion. FH is by far the most versatile genealogy software - so many options for reports, diagram...

I only use them to create small family trees for my blog posts. Definitely don't work in diagrams as some do. That said, FH's diagrams are the BEST I've found - so many ways to customize and I love the clean layout. Interestingly enough, I read one review of FH, in which the reviewer decried the lac...

If you open AS, and go to the Help item at the top, and type in Census Templates, you will get a list of items below, one of which is titled "Census Templates: Importing."

Click on that and you will see instructions
