I generated a How Related chart for my uncle and my fourth cousin, however, the outline colour of the box is, well, garish and I can't figure out where to go in the diagram options to change it. Would someone please enlighten me?
But I still thank you for all you do to help us noobs get the hang of FH. Your hints helped me get my program validated and that was the original question.
FYI: The next version of my Show Project Statistics plugin will report duplicated BMD events for Birth, Baptism, Christening, Marriage, Divorce, Death, Burial & Cremation.
I second Mark's recommendation of this video. I've been using FH exclusively for about a year now and I learned a couple of key things by watching it. It's almost an hour and Nick goes into a lot of detail. Yes, FH is different from Legacy, but it's very powerful and its sourcing, once you're used t...
I for one, as an RM migrant, was so happy to leave behind RM's way of doing sources...discovered I'm an extreme splitter and FH is perfect for me :) Looking forward to watching Nick's video as I still have a lot to learn about FH. Thanks, Nick, for doing this :) <SNIP> Spoiler alert - it strongly pr...
This was going to be my point - regardless of the fact it's technically correct to use the word clipping, if it confuses your users, it's of no help! The site pointed to says it all - geeks for geeks...Many, many users aren't tech savvy, so they want Help documentation that's in plain English. Rant ...
Agreed - cropping or truncation are much more descriptive and makes much more sense. Clipping means to cut a portion out of something to use elsewhere. I was really mystified as to what it was about and wondered what happened or could be done with the clipped text. Either cropping or truncation work...
<SNIP> Rant 2 - FMP's Probate Calendar collection is called England & Wales Government Probate Death Index 1858-2019 . Their browse of that is called England & Wales Probate Calendars 1858-1995 Browse . So if you search on "Calendar", you find one but not the other... Consistency? I too have notice...
I generally don't include pictures for basic books, so for me, a word processor works just fine. I don't use Word, but Atlantis Word Processor. If I was to create a proper book (I generally publish to my blog and include images there), I'd still not include the pictures, export to rtf, edit the text...
I will admit using the term "clipping" for this feature doesn't make things clear. I generally think of clipping in computer terms of being able to clip something out and save it elsewhere, similar to snipping. Now I've read their explanation, I see what they mean, but still think they might want to...
Now you know how Canadians who use British spelling (which is most of us) feel when using software developed in the US that defaults to US spelling ;) However, I do see your point, as said US software often does include the option to use British spelling. Not sure CP has considered offering that. I ...
Welcome to the FHUG. I am surprised that the many migrants from RM have not responded to your enquiries. I just had a quick look and it appears for me, the formatting was saved - only thing is, I imported an RM8 file, not and RM7 one. Not sure if the FH importer differentiates between the two. It's...
I'm glad she answered you - she's been busy at RootsTech since Thursday (and likely for some time before, getting ready). It is frustrating to have records disappear like that - I've been bitten too and now spend a lot of my time snipping, citing, saving, and backing up any newspaper mentions I need...
Thanks :) I see now what you did. Trying to learn more about building custom queries. As always, I appreciate your help. Compare the Rows tab filters between the standard All Relatives query and this custom variant. It just adds some more Add if an ancestor/descendant of anyone in the current result...
Is there a way to amend the All Relationships query to add my husband's line as well? If so, would it involve creating a Group for my husband's line and adding it as Group 2? And would it figure out my relationship to his line?
Below is what I'm doing, for my main line and my very close collaterals (who know, I may get around to others if I live long enough!) When AS finds an existing fact, it does offer to keep the existing citations when it creates the new fact. I tick this box, double-check everything in FH, and often t...
Still better than fora for other genealogy software where all people do is moan about how they don't like a new version, how the company is forcing them to spend money, accompanied by sniping and rants about how sharing info to Ancestry or depending on Ancestry for your tree is a bad thing. I'll tak...
Thanks, Nick, it works a treat!!! I'm home on a Snow Day (in Canada) - it's so fast now to add a full household in the Census. Thanks for the reports of issues with v7.6.12 - I've now released version 7.6.13 and updated the first post in this thread to reflect this. I was really pleased to get so ma...
That's good news - glad it hasn't created new work for you!! I have still to try the process, but am getting close to doing so now. Shouldn't do. They've kept the rmtree extension, so the new version probably just has some extra fields or tables. The launch e-mail pinged into my inbox about an hour ...
Mark, Apparently they've changed the file format again...will that make a difference? I don’t expect the pending release of RM9 to have any immediate implications for using the plugin, as the TreeShare facility is likely to be fully forwards-compatible, as it was from RM7 to RM8. Hopefully, RM won't...
For those of you who also use RM, Bruce has just announced RM 9 will drop this week - a special introductory price being offered from today through til next Monday, March 6 at RootsTech. Not sure what this means for the FH-RM-Ancestry Sync plug-in. I admit to being lukewarm at this point, given that...
No worries - just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. It's cool to be able to choose all relevant offspring along with one parent! Thanks :) I agree - it's fantastic! One question, though - is there a way to include the spouse in the tree so they don't have to be selected separately? Not ...
I agree - it's fantastic! One question, though - is there a way to include the spouse in the tree so they don't have to be selected separately? Not a huge deal - just curious :) Thanks again for such a wonderful addition to AS. Teresa :) What a great new feature the tree is Nick This makes selection...
