Re: Learning LUA

Thank you Mike for that guidance , I will look at those references and how I get on. I quite enjoy the challenge of getting things working.
As you suspectedAddInfo is using fhSetValueAsText. Clearly not a Rich Text Object 🙄

The next step is to add a Media Record, but one step at a time.

Re: Allow reports to split very wide tables dynamically

On the 2nd page of the PDF I've shown how this might look with the row numbers option. The table would truncate at the last complete column, add the numbers column and then continue to display the table below. My pennyworth: That looks like a good solution for starters. Refinements could come later...

Re: Learning LUA

I am endeavouring to create a rich text hyperlink to a source note. Currently I am coding AddInfo(sourcePtr,"NOTE2","<web=\""..fld.."\">") This generates a note as required Screenshot 2022-11-07 075812.jpg To get it to show as rich text I have to check the box in the screen below Screenshot 2022-11-...

The new function will extract any part of a comma separated list. e.g.:

=COMMAINDEX[0%A,B,C] would return A
=COMMAINDEX[2%A,B,C] would return C

So you could have =COMMAINDEX[0,{PLACE}] or =COMMAINDEX[1,{OTHER}], etc.
Brilliant 👍😊👏

Re: Title Template Data References

There will be a function you can use to do this in the next version Chris. I look forward that as I record place names in source titles as eg Kent Dover Priory Road. The {PLACE} being 1, Priory Road, Dover, Kent, -, England. Currently I have taken to using the 'Other'. Could the {OTHER} be similarl...

Chris and Colin are referring to the links to individuals that AS generates rather than links to a website.

Re: Census Conversion

Having used them in notes and other transciptions and seen how useful they are, I regret that decision. I copy the link text into the Note section when using AS then when finished run. Then run Mike Tate's "Move Note URL to Rich Text Web Link" plugin to convert them to active hyperlinks. Example fr...

Re: Potential Probate Plugin

But presumably if the will mentioned things like occupations or residences for any of these 'witnesses' you would be creating facts for those too and linking them to the source. Again it's this very wide variety of ways that people potentially want to deal with their wills/probate that has put me o...

Learning LUA

I have been looking at The Finished Example (https://fhug.org.uk/kb/kb-article/iup-gui-builder-hints-and-tips/) It's not quite finished as these two lines need adding: 1. require("iuplua"); 2. iup.SetGlobal("CUSTOMQUITMESSAGE","YES"); I have two/three questions: 1. If line two is omitted, then when ...

I find this approach works with some adaptation works for most things.

In the first screen shot it can be seen where Margery has a witness role in other probate events.

This is the way I handle the probate of a complex will

I use witnesses similarly for headstones/gravemarkers, obituaries, newspaper reports of so forth

My sources then look something like this:

Having started to have a go at plugin writing, I did manage to find them, after looking at some existing ones as examples.

Suggestion seems very sensible.

Re: Potential Probate Plugin

I have been using this as a self-training exercise to do some plugin writing. So far, I have partially converted to how I recorded data. Things I am still working on; are to convert the weblink to an active link, add a media record to the source and add linked persons as witnesses. (All quite easily...

Yes indeed, excellent Plugin. Found quite a few typos and so forth. Very useful as I have cleaned up a dozen or so.
Thank you

Also picked up where I have put notes after the // to distinguish people of the same name, which is not a problem but quite useful.

Hi Normie, Yes understood, exactly what I would do. David, a simpler way is to use Familysearch Search>Catalog>Places i.e. Parishes Select On-line and the results will be filtered to only those parish records records that are available to view or search on-line. I haven't tried as a non-subscriber, but one of my favourite ways of searching FMPs parish records is to use the Parish Records Browse facility. From the home screen, select Search at the top, then All Record Sets. Type "Lincolnshire" into the search box which contains the greyed text "e.g. census,...
