Re: Source templates
I have highly structured method 2 split sources. ...... I use method 1 lumping for the GRO indexes To avoid any confusion: Split sources are Method 1 and lumped sources are Method 2, so you have referred to these the wrong way round. See Sources and Citations in Version 7 (for New Users) under the ...

Re: Source templates
Mike, yes I am reading the KB article you mention, but I am also interested in what others have done and why, and what are the perceived benefits before making my own decisions. When I upgraded to FH7 I looked at using Templated sources and decided to stick with generic. I have highly structured me...

Re: Diagram/Chart Performance
I have resized/resampled my Scotland Flag and the Ecuador Flag to have a height of 60 pixels using IrfanView. They are now 18kb and 17kb respectively. They seem to perform satisfactorily. Screenshot 2022-12-08 140909.jpg Scotland2 - Copy.txt EC2 - Copy.txt you will need to change the extensions back...

Diagram/Chart Performance
Hi all, I recently found my diagrams and charts were taking much longer to load than previously. A little investigation showed the issue was with a couple of Country Flags I had created. I found that their size was over 320,000kb! Other Country Flags are in the range 1kb to 675kb. Regenerating these...

Re: censuses - query with different values for an output column
Nor had I until recently. I had a male where I was trying to find his wife and had two candidates. Finding him with his wife in a 1948 electoral register gave me her given names and determined which one of the two was the wife which was why I recorded it. Yes indeed, I have found the Electoral Regi...

Re: censuses - query with different values for an output column
I use a custom fact "Electoral Roll" as I don't feel that Residence is quite right. The main thing is to record the location and date. For the date I use the date the register was signed off by the returning officer - in the UK often the October prior to the year of the Register.

Re: Potential Probate Plugin
When I posted my probate plugin, it was a 'work in progress' and lacked a degree of error checking; hence I suspect the errors that Teresa has experienced. I am pleased that David has managed to use my original code and adapted that to something that is his own personal style. I have expanded on my...

Re: Potential Probate Plugin
Hmm, sorry about that. Will have a look into it.
Adding new repositories or places I haven't solved yet. Still getting to grips with LUA programming! It's to do with how those drop down list boxes work.

Re: Potential Probate Plugin
But presumably if the will mentioned things like occupations or residences for any of these 'witnesses' you would be creating facts for those too and linking them to the source. Again it's this very wide variety of ways that people potentially want to deal with their wills/probate that has put me o...

Re: Recording Ancestry ThruLines with unknown individuals
I create the individual OT using whatever Information I can glean from Ancestry. Would you also create the intermediate 2C1R and 3C individuals to keep the relationships correct? No, I would not also create the intermediates, I would as I have no information about them other than they are potential...

Re: Recording Ancestry ThruLines with unknown individuals
I use the principle to start from what you know; in in this case JE is a DNA match to OT. I record this information using a custom Fact (Attribute) DNA Match (the normal time frame is None) with three witness roles Match, Linker and MRCA (Most Recent Common Ancestor). The text I would use is "OT pur...

Re: Testing Ancestral Sources v7.6
Hi Nick, I have started using AS to Rename files using my own name as I add them. If I choose the Enter your own title , it is enabled for the first file, but does not enable automatically when I add further files. Choosing one of the other options eg Use Image Template and then choose Enter your ow...

Re: Testing Ancestral Sources v7.6
It took me a little while to figure out what was happening here. The reason it doesn't work is because you have Tools->Options->General Settings - Source Text->Autotext Place/Address Tidy on. This is a default setting in AS and removes additional spaces or commas at the start and end of places and ...

Re: Testing Ancestral Sources v7.6
Personally I find AS does an excellent job, and the last few releases have enhanced that. I am very grateful for it.
I always review the created source and facts and make adjustments if necessary. Sometimes it is often not.

Re: Testing Ancestral Sources v7.6
I can investigate any issues with this later and haven't really looked at your examples yet. But just to be clear, are you deliberately including the commas after the % in the COMMAINDEX commands and if so for what reason? And what would you expect the output to be in the 2 examples you give? Thank...

Re: Testing Ancestral Sources v7.6
I have been testing the new COMMAINDEX function. Works well in the Source Title for 1891 Census. I notice that the examples in Title Template Data References thread omit the % signs So you could have =COMMAINDEX[0,{PLACE}] or =COMMAINDEX[1,{OTHER}], etc. The slight issue is if there is nothing befor...

Re: Learning LUA
Brilliant, Thanks again.
Progress made, working link with preamble and postscript: Still work to do to capture "Website Note Date Accessed" the "Further info section"
... and then the Image for Media tab, and error checking and etc. etc.
It is actually usable

All the relevant advice is in the How to Write Plugins help pages. Under The Family Historian API > Function Index, you'll find fhSetValueAsRichText among the other fhSetValueAs... functions and is crucial in creating a Rich Text Note instead of a plain text Note. Under The Family Historian API > R...
