Re: Occupation entries after burial
I also enter the occupation with the marriage date. It then show up on the individual's record. Useful sometimes if I have a retired miner, a deceased miner etc. and have not yet determined the date of death. I have had children give different occupations for their dad! Serves as a reminder to reche...

Re: underscore character or hyphen?
I prefer the hyphen, rather than underscore, because of the way things sort. Always change the BMD downloads From FMP to hyphens so they sort consistently.

Re: Privacy and GDPR
If we collect data from various sources about living individual, and then publish these data together then I would argue we are subject to GDPR. Particularly if that person is identifiable from the information we have published.

Hi, just ran the Check Installed Plugins against the Store plugin, and notices the Relatedness report I have is newer that the store version. Not a problem, just mentioning it. I find the report is very useful in reminding me how much DNA might be shared with any ancestor. Check Installed Plugins ag...

Hi,
Just ran the Backup and Restore Family Historian plugin v2.8 and I noticed that the Data Filename on the final Status screen is blank. Image attached. Is this usual? Thanks.

That's valuable work you are doing. Is it worth exploring putting the information onto two websites, as aback up against future changes? Also have you thought of lodging a copy with either your local library or archives and the family history society.

Re: Urgent Merge & Compare question
Not sure about which updates I have used that approach on, it might be worth a try as a restart is sometimes needed rather than shut down and reboot. It's a while since I have needed to use it.

Re: Urgent Merge & Compare question
One trick I have tried in the past is:
With the computer up and running,
Do a restart. When that's completed. Shutdown. Then reboot.
Ensure that the shutdown has completed before rebooting.
I have used this successfully to recover from a stalled update that is preventing further updates.

Really like that latest version, like the ranges. Very useful. Thank you

Re: Genetic Relationship
The 100% is 6800, then I would expect 50% from each parent, actually Ancestry shows 3421 match for my mother. Have a look at Whoyouaremadeof. Com It's always a range, and you can have more distant direct ancestors who you inherit none from!

Nice, how about a column showing the average centimorgans based on a total 6800? Problem is there is a range of centimorgans actually shared.

Re: Importing Media From Find My Past?
Yes, that might help answer the question asked at the beginning of this thread. However the FMP tree would need to have those media links in place before creating a Gedcom. That means manually amending the media field in each case. In this case I suspect each media item has to be downloaded and link...

Re: Importing Media From Find My Past?
Actually I think we may be slightly at cross purposes here. I am looking at the FMP site rather than the hints within FH (where I agree completely with what you say). However working on the FindMyPast website I find that just accepting the hints on the website just attaches a link to the transcripti...

Re: Importing Media From Find My Past?
To explore this a little I created and downloaded a Gedcom from my FMP tree. I then imported this into a new FH project. My observations are: For the FMP records that I had linked to my tree a hyperlink was produced. The ones I tested from within the downloaded Gedcom linked to a page with a transcr...

Hi Paula, may I add some reassurance. I too have much computer experience but found Family Historian daunting at first. This Forum has been immensely useful and supportive. What I particularly like is that FH uses a GEDCOM file as it's datastore. A file that can be read by many programs, with a vary...

So the target audience is: users first attempting to add knowledge and experienced users needing a reference manual? How about a glossary - namespace might be unfamiliar to some.
