Re: Copying Fact Types
It could be addressed with a plugin if any aspiring authors want to use it as an example to understand the structure of fact set files (as I did with the Change Specific Fact Tag plugin a couple of years ago), but whether it is worth the effort is debatable. It feels more like a potential wish list ...

Re: Ancestry Discount
It appears that it is an immediate upgrade if you don’t already have global access. I tried a recent RootsChat link, and it offered me 12 months worldwide access for £89.99, starting today and with a pro-rata refund for the remaining three months on my UK-only account. That’s cheap global access for...

Re: Ancestry Discount
I think the general consensus is that you have to allow your sub to lapse to get the best offers. FMP ran a good promotion recently that enabled me to upgrade the remaining four months of my UK subscription to include unlimited 1921 census, newspapers and international records for just over £16. I j...

Re: Accessing named lists via plugin
Thanks folks. In my case, I’m looping through individuals anyway to check flags, so using IsInList(…) is actually easier to code than reading the full list into a table via a proper data reference and checking against that, so that’s the way I’ll go.
It is an odd omission, though.

Accessing named lists via plugin
It's not clear to me how to access FH named lists via a plugin. I know they are stored in the header record, but the following code generates a listing of all header tags apart from _LIST (named list) and _ROOT (project root individual) . pH = fhNewItemPtr() p1 = fhNewItemPtr() p2 = fhNewItemPtr() p...

Re: next step in Ancestry Sync.
That's a fair comment Henry. The name has arisen for historic reasons so it would be confusing to users to change it now, but I have added a comment to the introduction in the plugin help file to make it clear that it is one-way sync only.

Re: next step in Ancestry Sync.
Welcome to FHUG, Henry. The key point here is that the plugin is one way syncing only. It keeps your Ancestry data extract up to date, but FH is the master record, and all changes are made in FH. As you have found, TreeShare allows a limited two way synchronization, but by deliberate design there is...

Re: Export to GEDCOM: _QUAY values
There is an extra wrinkle to be aware of if you want to capture all quality assessments. GEDCOM 5.5.1 permits only a single value, of unreliable (0), questionable (1), secondary (2), or primary (3). Here, there is no need for any bit operations, as only a single value is permitted. The system Nick a...

Re: Export to GEDCOM: _QUAY values
I haven’t studied the _QUAY values, but a common technique for storing this type of data is to have different bits representing the various parameters. In more familiar base 10 numbers, that would mean the parameters are represented as 1, 2, 4, 8, etc. Every possible combination can therefore be rep...

Re: Ancestry Synchronization Renamed Project= Bad?
Fred, It should be fairly simple to recover from where you are now. Open the plugin, and export a GEDCOM file. You don’t have to do anything with the exported file, but it enables the plugin option to select your RM file. Select your RM file that is synced with Ancestry, and you can then carry on as...

Re: Ancestry Synchronization Renamed Project= Bad?
Fred, Can you describe exactly what you did please? The recommended way to rename a project is via the Project Window, in order that all the required name changes are made and kept consistent. The first time you run the plugin in the renamed project, you will get the following warning: Capture.PNG I...

Re: Ancestry Synchronization Error
No problem, Mike. Thanks for the clarification. It is perhaps surprising that gsub(...) doesn't have a "literal" parameter similar to that in find(...), but we have to deal with the language as it is, not as we would like it to be. I must admit, I tend to steer away from the more complex application...

Re: Ancestry Synchronization Error
IMO Mark should update the plugin to cope with those symbols rather than users having to edit their Projects. Well done, Mike - I think that is the most pointless post I've seen for a long time. When users find bugs, authors update their scripts to correct them - why did you think I wouldn't bother...

I think we are all pulling in the same direction - a simple plugin option to select from a list, and the user has full flexibility to populate that list as appropriate.

Re: Ancestry Synchronization Plugin
Most users would have a single RM file and Ancestry tree linked to their FH project. You could use it with multiple files, but I wouldn't recommend that, as it could get very confusing very quickly. I think that leads us to a single tick box option, whereby only individuals included in an "Ancestry ...

Re: Ancestry Synchronization Plugin
Welcome to FHUG, Fred. Unfortunately, that is not possible at the moment. The selection works by excluding all individuals with either the Private or (optionally) the Living flag set, along with all relationships involving those excluded individuals. I like the concept though, so it should be possib...

Re: Birth and Birth Registration
No, I'm thinking exactly what I said. Chris's custom facts and sources will be stored just fine in the FH GEDCOM, which is the point he was asking for reassurance on. If you can enter it via the keyboard, FH has a way of saving it in its own GEDCOM file. However, neither standard nor custom facts ca...

It can be useful background though. Couple of examples - I have an uncle with multiple dates of birth recorded from different sources. Just looking at the above paragraphs, you won’t realise that it contains hidden codes to turn bold on an off. You don’t see these codes but they are there. Re: Birth and Birth Registration
If you imported your RM9 file into FH, your custom registration fact and any associated sources and source templates should have come across intact. I agree with Helen that recording Registration as a separate fact is not a common way of working, but there is nothing stopping you from continuing wit...

I have mine set to black for non-data text and blue for data text so that it is consistent with how links are displayed in the Rich Text editor. However, I read the original post as referring to the actual lines on the grid, which are very faint. They can't be changed, hence the Wish List item Helen...

Re: New version of Ancestry Synchronization plugin
Matthew kindly shared his detailed files so we could go bug hunting. Inconsistencies in the way RM saves its options settings meant that the plugin was not able to determine the preferred Ancestry domain (.com, .co.uk, etc). The store version has now been updated, with more flexible searching and a ...

Re: Existence of a field definition in Source Template
No problem, but make sure that you understand exactly what the functions are doing rather than just copying them blindly, as you will then be able to use and adapt them for other similar scenarios in the future.
