Re: How to record slaves in Family Historian
Interestingly, this relationship is included specifically in the new RM9 “Associations” feature that allows non-family relationships to be recorded (friends, employer/employee, enslaver/enslaved, etc). It will be interesting to see if FH follows suit in due course.

Re: Ancestry Synchronization now in Plugin Store
Shouldn't do. They've kept the rmtree extension, so the new version probably just has some extra fields or tables. The launch e-mail pinged into my inbox about an hour ago, so I've downloaded the free Essentials version and done a quick test. All the free version supports is the initial comparison, ...

Re: Ancestry Synchronization now in Plugin Store
I don’t expect the pending release of RM9 to have any immediate implications for using the plugin, as the TreeShare facility is likely to be fully forwards-compatible, as it was from RM7 to RM8. Hopefully, RM won't do anything to break compatibility in other areas! It will be some time before I test...

Re: Exporting to RM8 using modified settings in Export to Gedcom Plugin
As I said earlier, the RM8 sync with Ancestry uses a small subset of your data so that RM8 tree would probably be unsuitable for syncing with Family Search. I think RM8 is used only because it is cheaper than FTM. To clarify - it can use as much or as little of your fact data as you wish. By defaul...

Re: Question on the Ancestry Synchronization Plugin and Unique ID
Correct. The Ancestry Sync plugin directs you to the Tools > Record Ids menu to generate any missing values from within FH prior to running the plugin. Although the basic UniqueID is common across all supporting apps, there are different formats in use, with or without a checksum, and with or withou...

Re: UK Marriages post 2000
Indeed - I suspect it will be a rolling closed period (a few years or decades, depending on the mood of the times). The bigger issue may be interpreting the records, as the traditional monoculture nuclear family becomes less and less common...

Server stopped responding errors
I’m getting fairly frequent “Server stopped responding” errors with this site. It’s particularly annoying if you are previewing or submitting a posting, as the draft gets blown away. It’s not my router or internet connection, as other sites are fine. It started a few days ago, so is there a problem ...

Re: UK Marriages post 2000
I don’t think our hobby trumps legitimate data protection issues. Sites such as Ancestry, FMP, etc, are for access to historic records, not as a tool to aid identity theft. Consider yourself lucky - in my experience, England & Wales have one of the more generous interpretations of what can be publis...

Re: Source Record Title confusion
(unless you're mixing Generic and Templated Sources, and that way IMO lies madness). Even partly tongue in cheek, you are directly contradicting CP in the FH help: Capture.PNG It's all a matter of personal preference of course, but I never use the Short Title, even for Generic Sources. Having taken...

Re: Plugin Rename Source Media
It looks like this plugin dates from early FH7 beta testing, as the store version is (at least) the third revision, but still predates FH7 release by 3 months. I assume this was before the enhanced tools that were developed for just this scenario in FH7 were finalised, as it still uses the old libra...

Re: Stripped Down Gedcom for DNA Upload
It's worth noting that the new Ancestry Synchronization plugin does exactly that in one easy step. Configure it to export just BMD facts as explained in the help, and everything else is excluded automatically. Ignore all references to RM, and just upload the GEDCOM file to your site of choice. IMO, ...

Where did this plugin originate please?
I'm confused - the store plugin is List All Citations For A Selected Source, so do you mean that one, or a different plugin?

Re: Multiple Marriage with same spouse
There are two different situations here. The first is where one family have two marriages, e.g. a religious ceremony not recognized by the state and a separate civil marriage. The second is where the two spouses end the marriage and subsequently remarry. In this latter case, two separate families ar...

Re: GEDCOM to Ancestry
Good suggestion, but the Ancestry Synchronization plugin is designed only for a bare-bones tree exported from FH to RM and uploaded as a new tree. By design, it will not run if it sees additional data such as media links in the RM file.

Re: Unknown Relations
When FH sorts data, it considers blank values as lower than any defined value. Blanks are therefore at the top when sorting in ascending order but at the bottom when sorting in descending order. There are more sophisticated ways of defining a sort in other software. For example, Excel will always pu...

Re: FH-RM-Ancestry Sync error
The error seems to suggest that RM has somebody defined as a child in a family who is not listed as an individual, which seems odd.
I’ve sent Gerald a private message with a couple of suggestions for diagnosing.

Re: FH-RM-Ancestry Sync error
Sorry about that Gerald. Does the same RM file work correctly with the old FHUG plugin?
The error is in the code that reads the RM parent-child relationships, suggesting there is something there it doesn't like.

Re: Trying to create Reburial fact
You’re not alone - I tried the same solution, and saw that it didn’t change the tag
.
I can see why that is the case, as it is working directly with GEDCOM descriptors, but it is an inconsistency. Cloning and modifying does work for many other features, such as Source Templates.

Re: Is there any way to get a list of 'Name Only' witnesses please?
Thanks, Mike, I think that’s the right approach. I think the proposal on the table was that we do not create a plugin list, as FHUG is not a second tier store. Plugins that are still relevant and useful (as this one clearly is) get moved into the CP store, so they are more visible and can be properl...

Re: Is there any way to get a list of 'Name Only' witnesses please?
Absolutely - if they take a different approach to solve the same problem, competition is good. I was thinking more along the lines of two different versions of the same plugin at different stages of development or with different bug fixes.
