Re: Source help
Hi Mike, I have worked my way through Getting The Most.. and have started a second full read. As I said I was just being nosey about how it got added if you didn't use ASC, especially if I was maybe using information from a census for a marriage and making a few assumptions from ages about the year....

Re: Source help
Jane, is this before you enter the information or at anytime? I tried it and it added one individual but not the other individual or family

Re: Source help
Hi all, I mentioned at the beginning about extra citations and thanks to your help found out that Auto Source Citations added 2 individuals and a Family automatically to my citations. My question is how do you do this if you are not using ASC or AS to input your data. Really just nosey about how as ...

Re: Source help
No spec hang ups here and even what little I have already redone I have noticed a few things about my wife's family that had previously gone unnoticed.

Re: Source help
Just read that gedcom spec, so putting the tree on hold and going to go away and have a long hard talk with myself about why I decided to change software and redo my family tree   No seriously thanks for that guys (and gals) it has helped a lot with getting my head around some of the parts...

Re: Source help
Helen, I did look and read through these and watched the video, I more meant, what is a 'short title', what information would you put in it and what is it used for. The same with the other things like 'Author' who is this Me, the Registrar or someone else. This was why I was wondering if anyone had ...

Re: When to stop with Sources
Helen, If I understand you then your sources would be, Birth- Maiden name, Marriage- Maiden Name and Death- Married name. If someone else decided to carry on your tree how would they be able to tell whose death certificates were whose by just looking at them. Now I am not criticising your method, ju...

Re: Source help
Wow Helen, so many questions so little time   . I did enter the informants information, I just meant it added the wrong place again and I had to go in and change it again. Re the dilemma I did treat both sides as different, I just wondered because technically it was still a birth certifica...

When to stop with Sources
Hi all, I have started to redo my tree in FH as you may or may not have noticed  and want to get it as right as I can, not for me but for hopefully my daughters or granddaughter in years to come. I have been thinking about this for a while and was wondering when or if to stop adding citations? ...

Re: Source help
What do you need to achieve that you couldn't with AS? I'm very happy to go into more detail if it would help. I just tried AS again, I made a new tree so as not to make a mess of my own and went in to options and ticked pretty much everything to be added just to see how it input data. I put in 12 ...

Re: Source help
Helen, I will reinstall AS and get back to you. While I am picking all of your collective brains, is there a way to change the Sentence FH produces in the Facts tab. The part I really want to change is 'On 29th Aug 1887 he lived in Hamilton, Scotland' to 'On 29th Aug 1887 he lived in George Court, H...

Re: Source help
Hi Mike, I had no problems inputting information it was more a problem with Auto Source Citations in FH that I didn't understand how it was adding citations that I felt that I wasn't putting in. As I alluded to in my last post I had put in 9 pieces of information from a birth certificate one of them...

Re: Source help
Well I have solved my citation count issue, I used the List All Citations For A Source plugin and found that Auto Source Citation adds a citation for each new individual (Mum, dad in this instance) and one for a new family (my dads family as it was my birth certificate). That's where my 3 extra cita...

Re: Grumble - Gender requirement
Surely you do know the mothers sex just not who she is. Would that not be an easy solution to accept that the child's mother is female, it's not that long ago that this would have to have been the case (technology and all that).

Re: Source help
Just another quick question, why when you look at the Facts for Birth is there a section for age? I ask this because obviously at birth you are age 0 years, but if you put 0 in the box FH puts an exclamation mark next to the zero in Facts. Why?

Source help
Well I finally started redoing my family tree using FH. I transferred my tree from FTM a long while ago and only just realised that the sources hadn't transferred over properly, so my tree is in a bit of a guddle. Now I am happy to start over again, so please don't think I am looking to try and sort...

Re: A simple to-do list
I have been trying to follow this thread but it seems to be getting away from me. The one thing I will say is that this thread has focused me to look at other ways to do things and look beyond what I do with different programs. Having read through what you have been saying on here two programs I wou...

Re: A simple to-do list
Hi Helen, Reminder- Bing bong pop up (would be good) but as I said in another post I could live without it. A way to bring up the named list you show quite easily would be fine. Tick box- Basically anything that would show it as complete for example the ability to Change colour to red, something say...

Re: A simple to-do list
Wow this has grown arms and legs, so here is my opinion on this. I feel that if I wanted something as powerful as Outlook I would just use Outlook which I do (If you use Microsoft for your email, they do a great online calendar and to-do list, windows and phone apps for calendars and task/to-do's wh...

Re: A simple to-do list
I have to say that I was only looking for, as I said a simple to-do list. 1. I wanted it so that if I was working on something and had to stop halfway through I could put a heading/subject line of say Name, then a note section so that I could leave myself a message (possibly an image) to remind myse...

Re: A simple to-do list
Wow I just had a quick look at the workarounds and I hope they are not as hard to get my head around as they looked. I found a link to a post somewhere by someone who said the same as me, that they missed to-do list in the opening screen of FTM but found FH better in every other way. A SIMPLE to-do ...

Re: A simple to-do list
Hi Mike, I never posted anything about this, I called Calico Pie to ask a few questions before I purchased FH to change from FTM (when they were going through their own troubles) and was told there was a workaround but not a solution. I guess Named Lists suggested by Jane is the workaround. I will l...

A simple to-do list
I would love a simple to-do list with heading, note, date and reminder. I know there is a work around, but it is the one thing I asked about when I changed from Family Tree Maker a good few years ago and it is the one thing I still really miss. I tried using my Outlook todo list but it ends up being...
