Re: Deceased/retired Occupation
Would you do the same for a retired entry Helen. On a totally other subject, to transcribe or not transcribe? Are there advantages to having the information in Text from Source if you have an image of the certificate in the source? Now no mention of Ancestral Sources putting it in automatically if I...

Deceased/retired Occupation
Hi Just a quick question, do you ignore the occupation of someone on say a wedding certificate, if it says plumber (Retired) or Plumber (Deceased). I ask because obviously you don't know when they did this job or where it fits into their timeline. At the same time it gives an in site into what they ...

Re: To Do List
I can't find my notes now, but I looked at ToDo when William first suggested it and concluded that -- for me at least -- it isn't mature enough to replace ToDoist (which I currently use). In particular there's meta-data that doesn't transfer from OUtlook on the desktop to the Android version, so th...

Re: To Do List
Hi Colin I wrote this in the original To-do topic I have been trying to follow this thread but it seems to be getting away from me. The one thing I will say is that this thread has focused me to look at other ways to do things and look beyond what I do with different programs. Having read through wh...

Re: Step child entry
Mike I think that is the solution I would use for that family, but I have quite a few scenario's like this in my family and I am quite sure if I did put them all through as step kids I would end up missing one when I printed it out and have a rude message on my phone before the ink dried. I will hav...

Re: Step child entry
This is a matter of personal choice and (you know what I'm going to say) depends on how you want the output to look. thought you were going to say use AS  . I also just add them to birth parents for simplicity, but I noticed a topic about step children in the Census and that got me thinking th...

Re: Step child entry
They are the same person Mike I had already checked that. Here is a screenshot from the diagram, I had removed their child to check if that made any difference but it didn't. When the child was there the only difference it made was on one side she was showing and on the other side the expansion butt...

Re: Step child entry
Checked again, my step sister, husband and child showed up once when I did a diagram for my dad but if I did the same diagram for my step mum they all showed up twice. One for each marriage. There is something (not sure how to best describe it) that kind of shows that both of the families are one an...

Step child entry
Hi all, Just a question about step children entry. My scenario is, My mother and father divorced, both remarried divorcees who both have children from their first marriages as well. I know all information about the other families, so when I have entered the information into FH and then look at it in...

Re: Data Entry, Tools & Guides
You click on each one in turn and read about their characteristics, which tells you about Witnesses (in first sentence), etc, etc. Also just experiment with them in FH .    Mike I had clicked on quite a few of them while having a quick look and as luck would have it all the one...

Re: Data Entry, Tools & Guides
Mike T, Thanks for the advice, I have a few further questions below. Reports- other limitations in Reports such as omitting some of the less popular and rarely used Note and Citation entries What ones (is there a way around it) and is this something I should worry about just now as I input the data?...

Helen
You gave me a link to The Standard Report Types, what am I supposed to look for as I read them that tells me if they use witnesses?

Re: Stopping Age Count
Thanks for that Lorna, Probably not much worse than "He died" as a sentence but I will remember to change the narrative sentence (and then change it back once I eventually find the date
)

Re: Stopping Age Count
Hi Lorna I totally agree about having a calculated age displayed can be confusing. I only plan on using this on people I know for sure are dead and as I am redoing my tree adding DECEASED to the field as I input all of the other information isn't going to be an issue. I do like the calculated age fe...

Re: Stopping Age Count
UPDATE: Just realised that just making a blank Death event doesn't fully solve the problem. When looking at the Focus window (Spouses & Children), if you set Person A with the blank Death event's father or mother as the Focus Person . Person A is now showing as a child in the Focus Window and when y...

Re: Data Entry, Tools & Guides
Right folks get your answering and shooting down caps on, as I have a few questions from your suggestions. Helen 1 Geocoding- Don't think that will be happening any time soon, most of my family over the spread of 100 years were miners who were born and lived at collieries that no longer exist, house...

Re: Stopping Age Count
Actually Jane I did, but admittedly I was more focusing (No pun intended) on the 'how to', rather than the 'what's it called'. Me Bad? I have a copy of How To Get The Most...… as well, but again used it as a find out how to do something, if I couldn't work it out, rather than as I should have worked...

Thanks for that Lorna, I never checked I just presumed that clicking once would sort it one way and clicking again would reverse it. So to Jane I say, thanks to Lorna I now know what the hang you were talking about

Re: Stopping Age Count
Point taken and will be actioned Mike. To be honest I am still getting used to the names of all the different sections of FH. I would have called the Focus window the Main Page if I was asking a question, as that is the first page I see when I open FH and as the Property Box is there as well I didn'...

Re: Source help
No disrespect here Jane, but what the hang do you mean by 'reference Alt-Clicking', as it makes absolutely no sense to me. But someone saying 'Simply' probably means I should know what it is and its uses.
