Re: FH7 Looks?
Helen So a backup should keep a copy of all my settings. I always back up after I finish working with FH but when I reinstalled my project in FH after my laptop was returned from the manufacturer, only my project was installed. The settings were all back to the original way FH looked before I made t...

Re: FH7 Looks?
Jane You say "Most of the colours for FH are controlled by the windows theme colours", which ones? I ask as none of FH looks like my Windows theme. I have no intention of moving to Heredis or any other for that matter, I like FH but I personally just feel it looks a bit dated. That is my view and as...

Re: FH7 Looks?
Trevor Some advice I was given by (I think) Mike Tate was that you can change the orientation of the property box and it works well on a laptop. You can have the box and source pane side by side instead of on top of each other. Helen I don't really think that there is that much wrong with how FH6 wo...

FH7 Looks?
I know that Calico Pie haven't really said anything about FH7 since they first announced it at Roots Tech. My question to anyone who was at the demonstration, what does FH7 look like? Has it been given a more modern make over for 2020 or is it just the same as FH6 in looks. I am a fan of FH but have...

These are the descriptions at the top of 3 original Scottish Birth Certificates dated 1876, 1962 & 1995. Hope this helps.

Re: FH6.2 will not open
For those using Windows 10, don't forget you can remove your anti-virus and use Windows Defender which is free and integrated into Windows Security. It is now as good, if not better than most anti-virus software (especially free) and doing this will allow you to rule out if your problem lies with th...

Re: MacBook Air
Mike I see what you are saying but I kind of think GEDCOM compatibility is only of use if you plan on moving. I know it is used in other things but if I had a program that did everything I wanted of it (very well) and was 100% non compliant and there was a program 100% compliant but was only average...

Re: MacBook Air
I've put my kevlar vest on for this reply, so here goes. I have mentioned this before, but if it was me moving to a Mac I would be looking for the best genealogy software for that platform and making the change. In my view FH is the best genealogy software, full stop, but if my other requirements me...

Re: PDF Print Defaulting to Microsoft Edge
Hi BobWard It may just have been an update to Windows that has changed the default viewer for a .pdf file, Microsoft Edge is Windows 10's default viewer (there has been a Microsoft Edge update lately). You can change it back by typing "default" into the search bar next to the start button in the bot...

Re: A simple to-do list
I have to say a simple to-do list would be nice, but I have now looked at the Named Lists recommended to me on here and have to say that between them and a separate Family Tree- Outlook To-do list are more than enough for me. I can live with working this way if no Task/to-do list ever appeared.

Re: Fact Management ????
This was one of the reasons for my re-do. When I transferred from FTM, about 1/3 of the addresses transferred into the Note field in FH and 2/3 transferred into the Address field even though the Place's transferred okay. I would imagine it's the reason Genealogy software manufacturers like to give y...

Re: FH Version 7
In reply to the OP, I found this on the my-History.co.uk web store in the buy now and get a free upgrade to FH7 section- "When version 7 is released (most likely in the first quarter of 2020), buyers will be supplied with a new licence code and will be required to download the version 7 upgrade from...

Re: Merge 2 projects
Thanks for that Mike, I was hoping someone was going to say that. I had quite a few things that appeared in the wrong place when I imported my Gedcom, maybe just a difference in where/how FTM and FH stored things. I presumed in this case that it was me who made the mistake when choosing the wrong So...

Merge 2 projects
Hi all Is it easy to merge 2 projects? I have been re doing my tree as many of you know. I haven't added any of my wife's family as yet, so the tree so far stops at her. Now I know that it is better to make one tree which is my intention, but here's my dilemma, my wife and my family although not rel...

Re: Should I halt the ReDo?
I understand where you are coming from, I was more thinking about the whole discussion I started when I asked about the date to put in the Entry Date after reading the Where To Put It booklet   . I was thinking that the templates may solve some of the where to put it issues I had. As I sai...

Re: Should I halt the ReDo?
Thanks for that folks, What you mentioned Adrian was what was in my mind. I was thinking along the lines of what I enter in notes may end up being added via a template that puts it somewhere else and I would have to go back through my whole tree reinserting/moving data to get it in the correct place...

Should I halt the ReDo?
After the announcement of FH7 I was thinking of putting my tree re do on hold as I am not to far in and wouldn't mind making some changes to what I have already done. I was thinking about tidying up the tree I imported from FTM and restarting my redo once I had a look at FH7. What are other peeps vi...

Re: FH on Mac or Unix
With you all the way Colin, with what you say about FH. As I said, if I used Mac I would never have looked at FH, I would have been using either FTM, Heredis etc. and looking at Rootsmagic when it came out with its native version. For the same reason that I have not look at a MacFamilyTree as I am W...

FH on Mac or Unix
Sorry guys but I hope FH don't start to spread themselves too thin trying to please everyone, CP are not a huge company with lots of developers. I would rather have the best Windows genealogy software, than a middle of the road program covering all bases. If they can do it without affecting what the...

Re: My Heritage Hints not working
I see, Mike. I presumed that if I refreshed the hints it would clear the cache and replace with the updated hints only from FindMyPast. I was thinking that MH was working again as I wasn't getting those hints last week, my mistake.
