Re: Is FH As Good As We Think

Helen This was the statement I made in my first post about bugs, nothing to do with FHUG repairing bugs. I have also read a few concerning posts for example this from Mike Tate "You are very lucky. Often, they say the problem will be logged and investigated and you hear nothing further." is this a w...

Re: Is FH As Good As We Think

I agree with pretty much all that's been said.I was more wondering what would happen if Nick, Mike, Jane and a few others walked away. I know you would say you are happy with FH , but most of you have walked away from other software to end up here. You are only as good as your next upgrade. As for b...

Is FH As Good As We Think

Hi all, Now don't take my subject heading as a criticism of FH, I will explain. I have been looking around FHUG and began to realise that to do a lot of things on FH you require to use things that are actually not in the FH program eg plugin's, companions or the goodwill of some very knowledgeable c...

Re: Version 7

Hi PP I am not sure that even if they wanted to, that beta testers would not be allowed to give out any information on the new FH7. Don't worry CP give out plenty of information on how the new FH7 is developing and when it's expected releases date is         :...

I was faced with this problem when I found that I had added an ancestor who had his son at 40, not impossible but unlikely!
I have friends who just had their first born age 42 & 43 so not as unlikely as you might think

Re: Mapping Locations

Mike,

Thanks, that fixed the problem. I don't know why it did that, as I haven't changed these since importing them from FTM and they are in the correct format. Hey Ho, problem solved so I will just have to wait for FH7 and then I can get started on the redo.

Mapping Locations

Hi All, I have just been having a look at some of the locations of facts in my tree. I have noticed that many of them are way out and am now wondering if I have done something wrong while inputting locations. Two that stood out for me was that I stayed in Dunstable, Bedfordshire, England just after ...

I had this problem and solved it by just opening the image rotate it and rotate it back then click save. This cured the problem for me.

Re: Private Trees

Using the information in other people's trees is very dangerous as many trees contain errors. The copying of trees perpetuates these errors. The worst case I have found of this (so far) is an obvious error which has been copied into well over 350 trees on Ancestry alone. This demonstrates that the ...

Re: Ancestral Sources Version 5.3.0

You can ignore that message as AS is perfectly safe. It is a false positive. It is true that it is not commonly downloaded, just like most genealogy software. It is true that it is not signed because that costs significant money and Nick Walker is quite reasonably not prepared to spend that on a fr...

I see that the link for AS has changed to 5.3.0 on FHUG but it throws up this message on Microsoft Defender Smartscreen.

I am not disagreeing with you Mike, I am just pointing out that if it is wrong as Nick and you are stating then AS should not be encouraging it by giving it as an option.

But entering today's date has no genealogical significance.
Obviously Peter has a use for it and many others who use Ancestral Sources, or the option would not be in AS.

Re: FH7 Looks?

Please calm down folks. There is no need to make false assumptions and get hung up about release dates. FH7 will be ready when it is ready, not before. It is not prudent for developers to release much detail about future improvements as doing so would put them at a commercial disadvantage. Calico P...

Re: FH7 Looks?

HMMMMMM!!!!!! I agree that FH6 is a great program, but whether I would recommend it to someone just now I am not so sure. Imagine buying FH6 seven months ago when you were being offered a free upgrade to FH7, you learn how to use the program and CP release FH7 and it is so different that you have to...

I agree with Propor(tionate), not for any other reason than that was how I was taught to write at school (Except for the capital P). So the ropor part would be identical to how I would have written it.

Re: Who should you add to your tree?

Mike L As I said, I had always thought about this in the back of my head. It came to the fore a month or so ago when I watched a video and the person on it kind of described her tree as being similar to the way you have yours. My tree is similar but with the parents of the spouses (to help identify ...

Re: Entering information

Mike, It is not really the close relations that are the problems it is the slightly more distant, say a son-in-law registering a death when you don't know the daughter or as in my example a cousin as a witness (you have the parents from marriage cert, you have to add the grandparent, their daughter/...

Entering information

I know I asked a similar question back in August last year, but not the same. So here goes, when entering information into FH (or any other genealogy software for that matter) is it better/easier to add the names you have then adding the sources/citations afterwards or do it one person at a time. I ...

Who should you add to your tree?

Hi All, I have always in the back of my head wondered this. Who should I be adding to my family tree? When I first started with FTM and Ancestry I went a bit mad and added anyone (probably like most peeps), just because I could. Once I settled in and thought a bit more about it, I realised I wasn't ...
