Re: Mouse Pointer Disappearing
Absolutely nothing to do with hyperlinks Mike, that’s why I never mentioned them. I am guessing what Helen says is what I am describing, I have noticed it is a matter of time or clicking. If I click in the windows then the position of the text position turns black or if I just wait 5 or 10 seconds i...

Re: Board Style Missing
Thanks for that Helen, it was just the same as the one I used on another forum and I was used to the look. I suppose I’ll get used to it along with the other changes.

Board Style Missing
Hi all I noticed the the Board Style that I used on the forum is no longer an option. When it first happened I thought that it was an oversight/glitch from the changes being made to the forum but the style hasn't returned. I am sorry I don't know the name of it, it is just not Metrolike or Prosilver...

Re: Location and Security of Media Files
By the way I was not speaking just of family trees, but of hard drive backups in general. Neither was I just talking of family tree, but that was what we were talking about. As for not keeping backups on your PC, Why? You would have 2 copies of your tree on your PC and have them set to "Always Keep...

Re: Location and Security of Media Files
Mark, I just worry about folks thinking Google Drive and OneDrive is sufficient. If someone deletes something accidently and doesn't realize it within a month they have lost it unless they have another backup somewhere else (which they should have). I agree totally that if you don't back things up ...

Re: Location and Security of Media Files
Mark,
You would have to accidentally delete your file and your backup and not notice it for 31days and chances are (due to FH not overwriting old backups)you would still have a few more backups to play with.

Re: Location and Security of Media Files
I think this has been around before, I only use Onedrive for backup as my laptop has a copy of my tree and a backup (well a few backups actually) and both are stored on Onedrive as well. Microsoft also backup my Onedrive a couple of times, just in case there server fails. So if my laptop blows up, a...

Is there a way to create a bare tree? Just names and how related, I don't need media, sources or dates (Although I could live with dates)

Mouse Pointer Disappearing
Had a little search on here and on t'internet and can't find a solution. I have noticed for a long time now that when I reply to a post or make a new topic that when I take the mouse pointer over either the subject box or main reply box that the mouse pointer goes I am guessing white as it disappear...

Thanks for that Nick, these were the things I was wondering. You should maybe put it in the wish list for FH13
and Calico Pie will put it in their Room 101.

Re: Residence
Adrian,
When I tried this, I found the problem with the residence being back with a g/grand father who stayed in the same house all his married life and had a large family.
Thanks for that

Residence
Hi All Is there any advantage/disadvantage to grouping residences. By that I mean, say I stayed in a house for 20yrs and I had the residence as from/to for those 20yrs, in that time there were 3 births, a death and wedding and I was involved in some way in them all. I would have 5 sources for all of...

[...] is used a lot across Windows, it is just so narrow on that window that you can't make it out on a 14" laptop screen. Maybe on a bigger screen but it just looks like some dust on this size screen. Doesn't matter, now that I know it's there I'll find it from now on. Thanks again.

Thanks Mike,
I couldn't see the [...], as it is so narrow at the side of the Text Box. I must have double clicked the Text From Source entry the last time I did it, as that does the same. Is their a way to make the [...] wider?

Edit Citation Text from Source
Me again I have spent too much time trying to work this out and I know it can be done but I just can't remember how. When I have a templated source and I want to add a link to a second informant on birth certificate for example or both mothers on a wedding certificate and DoB (they are on recent Sco...

Re: Residence Date?
Perhaps the moral of this story is to always think about what data you are entering. How do you know that? How likely is it to be accurate? There is an obvious danger in over-relying on automatic tools that just repeat a set action. Mark, I actually took a bit closer look at the wording of the cert...

Residence Date?
Hi all, I have a question, when entering a birth using DEA it creates a residence on the date of birth, but when entering it using Ancestral Sources it created a residence on the date registered. Which one is correct? Technically both in this case, but not always the case as you could move house bet...

Re: Building tree
Helen, I was originally trying to build a tree without adding anyone that I didn’t have a source for, so starting with my birth certificate and moving on from there. I got quite far, especially direct descendants but it fell apart a bit with the examples I gave I guess I’ll need to start looking int...

Re: Building tree
That was what I had been doing, but I was just wondering whether adding the parents and persons name was better that way you are always using an individual from the tree. I had started making my tree using templates and realised that when I added my marriage certificate witnesses, that all bridesmai...

Building tree
Quick question, although it probably has 100 different answers. What is the best/easiest way to build a templated tree? Is it best to use the DEA / AS to add the person or to have the person already in the tree? I ask as I often find that when I am inputting a marriage certificate that some of the p...

Re: DEA or AS citations
Thanks for that Mike, I made the changes in AS and they do mainly what I want,, I just wasn't sure about how the options read and your description made it more clear. What you said about DEA was what I thought was the case, I was just hoping I was missing something and the options were hidden away s...
