Re: Renamed Cemetery, Hospital et al
I am a firm believer in recording places as they were known at the time. I then use the Standardized Name and notes in the Place Record to note the details. I adopt this standard for all places, eg Clapham in "London" I would record as in Surrey until 1889, in London until 1975 then in Greater London.

Re: Recording an age given in weeks
Thank you, that explains why. I think I will put <1 month in the Age Attribute and record three weeks in the Note field.

Recording an age given in weeks
In quite a few census entries ages for new borns are sometimes given in weeks, the age attribute allows years, months and days - is it possible to record in weeks in the Age Attribut e other than in the Note field? I realise three weeks could be entered as either <1 month or c21 days but a weeks opt...

Re: FH 6.2.5 crashing problem
I have been using FH for over a year now since migrating from TMG and never experienced a crash until recently. Now I seem to get a crash two or three times per week (thank goodness for 5 minute auto saves). The attached error message isn't very helpful. No idea why this has started.

Re: What's the accepted wisdom on recording copious notes...
Dave, As Mike says, it depends what they are. For articles, screen shots and other things I want to keep for future reference I store them in the persons folder in the Media folder. When it is relatively short text I store the text in the Notes field for the Citation . As I have over 25,000 people i...

Re: Event District/Place - What to enter?
For a BMD event I record the place as XXXX "Registration District", ..... I believe the advice is to have the Registration District in quotes so it gets ignored by mapping software. Example below. If I have more detail about the place that takes priority, the BMD place then becomes a secondary citat...

Re: Hints have lost their colour?
I think the reason for the colour change has just become obvious, the search screen now separates Civil and Parish Records. Untitled.jpg My first thought is that this is detrimental, previously you got Civil and Parish returned on searches for births etc, presumably we will have to do this twice now...

Re: Find my Past... or Ancestry ?
I have both simply because they have different records (such as 1939 census on FMP) and also when transcriptions are in error on common records, the other one is probably correct. I also believe in cross checking data, so I often look at both for the same thing. As a matter of observation don't just...

Re: Web site creation - suppressing certain facts
Indeed. But use of the Living Flag to suppress publishing anything other than names and relationships means I am respecting people's sensitivities. If others want to seek out details from public domain information, as we all do, that is their privilege.

Re: Web site creation - suppressing certain facts
Jim, Thank you. I wasn't so much concerned about security as I think I have that very well covered by use of the Living Flag which I am currently just checking off. It was more to exclude Facts such as To Do which are my personal notes and the Note Facts where some observations are recorded which ar...

Web site creation - suppressing certain facts
I am beginning the journey of creating a web site of our information. From what I have read it looks like it is not possible to make a Fact private. I know encasing text inside double quotes makes that text private, but the Fact still appears, see this example for a To Do Fact Untitled3.jpg Ideally ...

Re: Automatic update of a field based on another field
Thank you very much for your replies. I agree this is a 'one off' plugin so doesn't need to be topped and tailed. I have had a day of learning LuA (never used it before) and have got what I need working other than writing a date to the Entry Date field. I cannot be creating the Entry Date field as p...

Automatic update of a field based on another field
I am in the process of tidying up historical data entry errors. When our records began we were not as diligent with citations as we should have been, and I am hoping to automate some updating as manually it would take a long time. An example is, for a specified source "Email 14/5/2003" was entered i...

Re: "Internet matches" icon disappears
I believe this a known problem and has already been recorded as an issue. I too have this frustration. A trick is to always leave one Hint as New then you can still get to see what you have Accepted or Rejected. Not perfect but it is a work around.

Re: Importing from TMG - no sort dates in FH
I just noticed this and am probably a bit late. But for what it is worth I migrated from TMG nearly a year ago and thought I would miss Sort Dates . However, I haven't, primarily because each Fact has a Time Frame , for example Burial being post death, so it always appears after death even if there ...

Re: Diagrams - dotted line not showing
Mike,
I knew I must be missing something fairly obvious. Un-ticking Fork Style for ancestors did the trick. Also I had reduced to gap to 0.1" to fit onto a page, I have increased that to .2" and I get exactly what I wanted.
Thank you for the very helpful tips.

Re: Diagrams - dotted line not showing

I cannot seem to find an answer to this little problem, so some guidance would be most helpful. Re: How To Get Nicknames To Show In Reports?
Mike,
Thank you for pointing that out. In the property window caption spurious spaces are of no consequence, but in a narrative or report they could be unwanted. Thus, I suspect I might be using CombineText a bit more as I do get a few odd extra spaces in sentences.
