Mike,
Many thanks, I have it included now. Strange it doesn't appear in the Data Reference Assistant.

Show Place Tentative Status
This may be a silly question, but is it possible to show the status of a Place in the Places Window ? It seems very hidden and long winded to have to open the map, select the place in the Places window , then goto Map on the menu bar, then select Geocoding . Configure columns doesn't seem to give yo...

Re: New to the program....
Select yourself so you appear in the main window, then go Edit -> File Root -> Set as Root. FH will then open with you as the selected person and all relationships will be as relative to yourself. You will see various threads on this particularly about always opening with the last selected person. F...

Re: Census, 1939 Register, Electoral Roll
FMP have opened a few records for me and I have never been charged. We already pay a significant subscription so I would consider a charge to be out of order. The only problem I have had is when they refuse to open a record saying the details don't match, I argued and they then agreed to open them. ...

Re: Census, 1939 Register, Electoral Roll
Regarding your point about what to call this. Although it is technically a 'Register' I decided I would record details as a 'Census' Fact as this is what it is closest/akin to. Regarding addresses, transcriptions give the Road and Borough Council (which is mis-leading), so it is sometimes helpful to...

Re: Start over?
I am in the process of going through all of my entries (>24,000 individuals) which is going to take about four years. We started entering in TMG before transferring to FH and many sources were not properly cited. I have attached two images to demonstrate the standards I have set my self. The FH is s...

Re: Sentence template age attribute vs fact age
Lorna, Mike, Many thanks, both work but I have gone with the CombineText version. I primarily wanted this for death records as many ancient burial records didn't record an age. My death sentence now reads <para>{%CUR_PRIN.NAME[1]:FIRST%} died< of {cause}>< on {%FACT.DATE:DAY_OF_WEEK%}>< {date}>< at ...

Sentence template age attribute vs fact age
I have tried without success to locate how to include in a Fact sentence template use the age attribute if present else use the calculated age i.e. use {age} if not present use {%FACT.AGE%}. Is such an IF / OR possible in a sentence template?

Re: How to Present the Family Tree?
If your FH file and associated documents are large (mine is ~25,000 individuals) then you cannot do it easily. I think you need to find out what he actually wants. I often get a question and people usually want to see their bit of the tree or how they are related to someone else, so you can just run...

Re: Create dynamic website
I started using the FH web generator at the beginning of this year and I have set myself a task to update my website at the end of every month, and it doesn't take very long. When the generator is running and the upload is taking place you can be doing other things on your PC. I'm not convinced that...

Re: GEDCOM to HTML and RDF
I use the create a web site in FH , take a look at http://www.wilkinsonransomefamilytree.co.uk/ I let FH create the pages but I have modified the main page and the CSS file, keeping them in a separate folder ready to copy in, and I replace a few lines of code in each file to tidy up the menu bar. I ...

Re: Prisoner of War
I have made my own Custom Fact as I have quite a few people who were prisoners of war. I probably need to tinker with the words by changing "was" to "became a" but I'll think about that as it does for the moment. I'm also thinking do I need a captured one as well as a PoW Fact . The downside of this...

Re: Creating a website options
Mike, I have experimented with the advanced button on step 8 of the wizard, but that just inserts code, unless I am missing a trick. What I am using Notepad++ for is replacing code thus to improve the cosmetic look of the menu bar. Default <li><span><a href="index.html">Home</a></span></li> <li><spa...

I have been experimenting with the FH web site creator and my first attempt can be found at: http://www.wilkinsonransomefamilytree.co.uk/ . I always use the maiden name for the reasons given above and I think this is critical. I do however add the married name(s) as alternative name(s). Re: Wild card in query parameter
Mike, Thank you very much for your effort and thoughts, much appreciated. The simplest solution for me is not to use a parameter and just leave the value field blank in the query window for the GIVEN NAME and use contains for part of a SURNAME when I want to retrieve all instances of that SURNAME .

Wild card in query parameter
I am using a cloned version of the Name Search query and sometimes wish to use a wild card in the given name, i.e. to retrieve all instances of the surname. This is easy to do if you uncheck the parameter tick box and leave the value blank, but I was just wondering can you use wild cards when a para...

Re: How to Enter Place Data for England?
I make a big effort to try and record addresses as they were at the time, but for someone who is not native to the UK this could seem complicated. I also realise not everyone would like to do it this way, each to his/her own, I'm just sharing what I do. London - For example, I would record Islington...

Re: Renamed Cemetery, Hospital et al
I only use the Place and don't use the Address field. I thought long and hard and posted on this forum prior to adopting this strategy when I switched to FH and it works for me. I happen to think this is the weakest aspect of FH, coming from TMG where these were in a structured format.
