Re: Testing Ancestral Sources v7.6
I've also noticed my naming convention throws up interesting suggestions in AS for the Ref ID. I don't seem to name very consistently and only around half get picked up correctly. Better than none! It isn't your naming convention that AS uses. AS doesn't look at your source name to work it out (tha...

Re: Testing Ancestral Sources v7.6
I came across an odd behaviour when converting non-link RT census to linked RT. I'd done 1841 and most of 1851, but had one that behaved oddly. I think it's caused by my own failings in the distant past, but curious as to why. I had a 1851 census source but when selected it didn't recognise the peo...

How do I set a default Repository?
When I add data for an individual, I often jump between birth, census, marriage... entries and every time have to set the repository then reset next time I go back to that class of source. Is there any way to set a global / class default?

Trivial request — could q3 be recognised as a date as well as Q3?
I'm a lazy typist, forever keying quarter dates as qN YYYY instead of QN YYYY. Ancestral Sources doesn't like me for that, whereas Family Historian happily corrects the case.
Would it be possible for Ancestral Sources to do the same one day?

Re: Multiple copies of Family Historian - caution!
OneDrive is a little opaque about its rules. I do use it, though for Family Historian I sync to my own Cloud hosted on my NAS and available over the internet. I like this way of working as my sync client is a bit noisy and makes it clear when it is syncing. I do find it helps to power up my laptop b...

FH is windows only, unless you want to try the Wine environment. You may struggle. Have you tried to install?

As long as you don’t use simultaneously. I do it all the time. There are guides on synchronisation here, I use cloud storage, there are other options.

Re: One Drive and Family Historian
All of my backups go to 3 external hard drives. My working copy of my Project file resides on my computer’s hard drive, and, gets backed up to my external hard drives on a nearly daily basis. I would never trust an Internet storage site for keeping my working copy of my FH project file, or, as a ba...

I had spotted similar problems running, which now seem fixed (on a quick comparison with a report from yesterday). Thanks very much!

Re: Getting rid of Parallels. What do you use?
I use WIne on my Macbook to get FH and AS - it's a near perfect solution for me, though I have some oddities as much down to screen size (13inch) as the implementation. I have found it breaks sometimes if wine falls out of sync with other changes (eg to xcode) when MacOs changes happen. This may all...

Re: Findmypast hints
Might this be similar to a (minor) problem I have? I have a local cloud holding my FH project and am running FH and AS at the same time as I enter several sets of data. Whenever I make and update in FH, AS always seems to spot, whereas sometimes when I update in AS, Fh doesn't realise and I have to ...

There was a new post on their FaceBook page in the last day, and no mention if any problems. You get lots of warnings before DNS expires, I suspect this is a technical issue somewhere

Re: Chrome says "not secure" web site
There's plenty of information on the web about this - from this article https://www.engadget.com/2018/02/08/google-chrome-68-http-sites-not-secure-label/ in February 2018 it seems Google decided to increase pressure on sites to migrate, and started putting out more warnings. I read it may get even n...

Re: Plugins/macros
Can't you make a series of short codes, eg |Fr| for Francois then use the search and replace plugin? It's not perfect and macros would be great for lots of repetitive data entry problems (eg clicking multiple menu keys).

Have you seen the entry on Find A Grave: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/14591907?
It looks like Spalding Nicholas died age 81 in West Virginia. It's from somebody's research, with some references, but obviously I've not checked the details

Re: Getting The Most from Family Historian 6 now available
That's a good call on the v5 edition - I've only ever used the most obvious data entry features, am only now looking at queries and plugins, and have no (immediate) need to make a website or a book from my tree. These things may change of course!
