Re: Census Entry: Witness or Not?
I think I'm going to have to play around with a test file and AS to see how all of this plays out. I'm thinking Method 1 might be the way to go, given ColeValleyGirl's info on how that avoids manual "Text From Source" data entry - nothing about entering "Text from Source" sounds pleasant! :) Questio...

Re: Census Entry: Witness or Not?
...it's not particularly that FH discourages the use of witnesses for censuses... Fair enough. Maybe it's more just that the per-person census event seems to be encouraged ? As always with these options it is a personal choice. Yeah, one of the great things about FH is that it seems to give you lot...

Re: Census Entry: Witness or Not?
Yeah, I almost mentioned in the original post about the downside of de-normalized dataWhat you say about needing to make 10 amendments if you need to alter something about a 10 person census form is perfectly correct....that's the Data Analyst in me speaking.

Is there any way to just re-post this forum post as a bug report?

Re: Census Entry: Witness or Not?
Thanks for the quick reply, folks! I read some of the background provided in the links, and I get the feeling that FH and AS seem to discourage using the witness role for Census. I agree, a person living in a house isn't really a witness . But at the same time, they do share certain attributes that ...

Bug In Fact Tab Override for Witnesses??
I'm try to override Facts Tab sentences for Residence and something doesn't seem right with the witness functionality. Notice how my Residence Fact Definition has "{other=resident}>" specified in both the Sentence Template and Facts Tab Template, but it's only populated for the Sentence Template (an...

Census Entry: Witness or Not?
Currently when I enter census information, I Choose the head of household as the "focus" person Add a "Residence" fact For that "Residence" fact, I add all of the household members as "Resident" witnesses Originally, I did this so that I could include witness info in my fact sentence (although, I'm ...

Re: Family Media Doesn't Show Up in Narrative Reports
OK, stupid question... how do I report the issue to Calico Pie?...posting in the New Wish List Requests Forum is NOT the same as reporting the issue to Calico Pie.
Thanks, everybody, for your help with this. Learned all about Witnesses, which was new to me.

Re: Family Media Doesn't Show Up in Narrative Reports
To get around this why not simply add a residence event with a witness for the wife to the husband and attach the house picture to that, it has the advantage of providing a useful sentence in the reports and also allows you to easily date the period they lived in the house. That worked pretty well!...

[Wish List ref 562] Family-Linked Media in Narrative Reports
Allow media linked to a family to display in narrative reports. Just like family facts are displayed for each husband/wife combo, display the media linked to that husband/wife combo. Currently, only media linked to individuals is displayed. See 15578|Family Media Doesn't Show Up in Narrative Reports .

Re: Family Media Doesn't Show Up in Narrative Reports
Thanks, Mike, I'll let Calico Pie know and see what they can do. I've done the group shot / face thing before, but in this case I had pictures of houses where people lived. So somebody lived in one house with his first wife, and another house with his second wife... I wanted the reports to show that...

Family Media Doesn't Show Up in Narrative Reports
When I link media to an individual , it shows up in the narrative reports (e.g. Ancestors by Generation). But when I link that same media to a family , it doesn't seem to show up. Am I missing something, or do does family media only show up in certain reports or something? FYI, I do NOT have the "Ex...

Navigate from Individual Record to Family Record
How can I easily bring up the family record for a particular person (and a particular spouse). For example, if I'm researching "Ann Gee", who was married to Edward Hanson, I might be on the Focus Window: 2018-01-04_9-50-38.png or on the Individual Record window 2018-01-04_9-45-48.png what is the qui...

Re: How To Control What's Used For An Individual
Thanks for taking a look, Mike.
So am I to take all of that to mean that I can't control what goes into the child narrative?
I think I did find one kinda-work-around... if I put the note into an event (like birth) then it gets displayed.

Re: How To Control What's Used For An Individual
OK, so in screen shot #1, we see that John Smith, aka "Johnny Boy Smith", has a note attached to him, "Here is a personal note for John Smith". We also see that he is the child of Steve Smith. 2018-01-02_17-05-40.png So I choose John Smith, and run an Ancestors by Generation report. We can see that ...

Re: How To Control What's Used For An Individual
What Report Options have you chosen?...If the Marriage Event local Note is appearing, then presumably you have ticked the Report Option for Inc. Re: How To Display Computed Ages in Reports
Thanks, Lorna! {their age ranges} gave me what I wanted. I had actually seen that in the help file, but had assumed since it was called "range" that it was always going to give me a range, i.e. "33-34", and not a single value, i.e. "33". But sure enough... when the DOB and event date give FH enough ...

How To Control What's Used For An Individual
Is there a way to control what, overall, is displayed for an individual (for example, what fields in what order, etc.)? Specifically, I'm looking for a way to control whether personal notes (i.e. notes attached to a person) and marriage notes (i.e. notes entered in the marriage event) appear in narr...

How To Display Computed Ages in Reports
I would like to have calculated ages appear in report. The code "{their ages}" only appears to be populated if I manually enter the person's age at the event. For example, I enter a person's DOB and the date she got married. In her timeline, it shows the calculated age parenthetically as "(33)". But...

How to make Spouse bold
How do I control whether a spouse's name is bold or not? When I run an Individual Narrative Report, the first reference to a person's spouse is bold (subsequent references are normal). For example, Thomas A. Smith , son of...blah, blah, blah. He married Susan E. Jones on Jan 1... But when I run the ...
