Re: Duplicate Spouse Records
Mike: thanks as always for your prompt and helpful reply. I'd not previously noticed the Families tab so that's most interesting. You are indeed a FHUG Megastar!

Duplicate Spouse Records
After a pleasant hour of entering ancestor census records with Ancestral Sources, I seem to have ended up with an ancestor, William Chandler, with a spouse Louisa Newton and a child, George. A second spouse tab for William contains another Louisa Newton with William and Louisa having 12 children, (n...

Re: Entering wife's maiden name and citation in Ancestral Sources
Thanks all. I revisited the ancestralsources:ancestral_sources_tutorial_entering_census_facts|> Ancestral Sources Tutorial ~ Enter Census Facts and see how Rupert Childs' wife, listed in the census as Janet Childs was actually entered under her maiden name of Janet Hodges. The suggestions to enter h...

Entering wife's maiden name and citation in Ancestral Sources
A couple of questions on Ancestral Sources, 1. When entering a family group, is it best practise to enter the wife's name as per census (generally her husband's surname) or, as I believe would be preferable, her maiden name where known. If not known, or not certain, should it be left blank or marked...

Re: Evidence Explained citations and Evidentia
Thank you Jan. Mike Hait's blogs look interesting and I'll work through them in more detail later. I take your point that much of what's in Evidence! is also in the first two chapters of EE so I'll probably stick with that! I've downloaded Working with Historical Evidence:Genealogical Principles and...

Re: Evidence Explained citations and Evidentia
Thanks, Jan, for the comments. I did buy the EE as e-book in the end, and can view on Kindle for PC but have to admit I've not made much inroads into it yet. I'm sure I'll understand more once I've finished the first two chapters. I'll check out your other suggestions when I have a moment :- - Evide...

Re: Evidence Explained citations and Evidentia
Yes, I see that the contents are summarized under the Book Content tab, and a small number of sample pages are available. I may get the whole book at some point but for now it might just be overkill. At least I've managed to get kindle for PC working. It's a shame that the ESM book and Quicksheets a...

Re: Evidence Explained citations and Evidentia
What sort of Kindle do you have? According to https://www.amazon.co.uk/Evidence-Explained-History-Artifacts-Cyberspace-ebook/dp/B074S4RJRF/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1546624887&sr=8-1&keywords=evidence+explained it's a print replica, only available on a short list of Kindle Fire Tablets and Reading appl...

Re: Evidence Explained citations and Evidentia
The Evidence Explained website https://www.evidenceexplained.com/ is currently being redone. It's back up now. I'd love to take a look at the book but it doesn't seem to be available for a standard Kindle and neither Amazon nor I were able to get Kindle for PC to work. It's very expensive in paper ...

Sorry, but you will have to get into habit of giving more details. OK - I'll try! :D How have you customised Diagram > Options > General > Background ? Presumably, One colour and used the Options... to choose pure White? I'd not customised it before, but when I did, I was able to see the Pedigree C...

I suspect you have the Conditions in reverse Priority order Yes Mike - I corrected the order and it looks good. To print it I selected File Save As. I could save it as a .tif or a .jpg but when trying to save as a .pdf FH just consistently crashed. Any thoughts on why that might have happened, or h...

Re: Colour coded pedigree chart
Yes, you need to use the Diagram > Options > Boxes tab << Add Condition > Expression feature. You will need one Condition Expression for each ancestral colour. e.g. 1st =IsTrue(IsAncestorOf(%INDI%,%CUR_TREE_ROOT.~MOTH>~MOTH>%) or IsSameItem(%INDI%,%CUR_TREE_ROOT.~MOTH>~MOTH>%)) ......etc. Set the T...

Mary E. V. Hill's FamilyRoots Organizer Color-coding filing system
Does anyone use a colour coded filing system for their paper files and if so, do you recommend it? Or is it better to keep digital where possible? This question was prompted by a lesson in a Pharos course that I'm taking at the moment. Here are a couple of links to show what I had in mind: Mary Hill...

Colour coded pedigree chart
Inspired by a recent course that mentioned Mary Hill's Family Roots Organizer Color-coding (sic) system , (and see also - http://www.mygenshare.com I wondered how to create a simple colour coded five generation pedigree chart in Family Historian. The idea is to colour code ancestors of your: father’...

Re: Using Clooz with Family Historian (Legacy import)
So much software, so little time. So true! One of the things I haven't really worked out yet is whether I want to send information from Clooz to FH, or carry on as I was, using Ancestral Sources. And what was the conclusion? thanks, Simonides (currently watching Clooz and AS webinars and wondering ...

Potential problem report or query
Is there a way to list entries with potentially incorrect data? I'm thinking of a potential problem report or query to flag possible inconsistencies eg. - husband and wife with the same surname - parent and child with the same first name - married when less than 16 years old - age at death > 100 yea...
