Re: Freeform citation in V7
thank you, Helen. Earlier in this thread you stated that you "used to put the whole EE-style citation in the Source Title in V6" Do you now use templates? Do you know of a way to use a template for a layered citation? There are many examples at evidenceexplained.com eg. quicklesson 19 at https://www...

Re: Freeform citation in V7
Mike, please can you clarify why you suggest "In Tools > Preferences > Sources > Generic Source Formats... customize the Footnote, Short Footnote and Bibliography Format to {%SOUR.NOTE2%}. "That is all that is necessary." That's all that is necessary for what? Thanks to all for your help. Clearly I ...

Re: Freeform citation in V7
Am I a splitter or a lumper? I'm not experienced enough to have a fixed view on this but Ancestral Sources recommends Method 1. I think that's the same as a lumper and it's what I followed when entering records via AS. I then pasted any citation details into AS's notes field. I'd probably not given ...

Re: Freeform citation in V7
thanks for the suggestions and comments. Other programs eg. RootsMagic have a freeform template which presumably inserts the source citations into the right part of the reports and the gedcom file. I wasn't able to find one in FH7 among the Essentials or Advanced templates. Would this be a worthwhil...

Re: Freeform citation in V7
thanks Helen. As an example, here's a citation I drafted earlier today. All Saints Church (Buckland, Buckingham, England) “Archdeaconry transcripts, 1605-1837,” p.3, no.8 marriage record for James Chandler and Susannah Gates, 21 Dec 1818; digitized image 598 of 974, FamilySearch (https://www.familys...

Freeform citation in V7
In the past, I've prepared my own layered citations, trying to follow EE's standard, and pasted them into the source notes. Now I'm using FH7 and am aware that a lot of good work has been done with templates, but, at least to start, I'd like to know what's the correct way to enter those freeform cit...

Re: Best way to index my collection of church register images
As a reminder, I started this thread because I was looking for a tool to help index a collection of images, in particular the parish register screenshots of baptisms, marriages and burials. I'm pleased to say that although it's a bit on the pricey side, iDImager's Photo Supreme works well for me and...

Re: Best way to index my collection of church register images
thanks Martin, yes I looked at Photo Mechanic but don't think it lets me search on keyword combinations - perhaps I'm wrong? Their new product Photo Mechanic Plus probably works but it's outside my price range.

Re: Best way to index my collection of church register images
Irfanview certainly has some helpful features and it supports searches for keywords. Thanks again for the suggestion. From irfanview help: Text:: you can search for text in EXIF data (JPGs, TIFs, RAW-formats) and/or IPTC/Comment data (JPGs). If several words are inserted (separated with space), all ...

Re: Best way to index my collection of church register images
thank you, Peter. I should have added that I'd need to be able to find the image easily perhaps with something like a query to find images with a keyword of "churchill" or marriages with keyword of "churchill" or "smith" I'll certainly take a look at Irfanview.

Best way to index my collection of church register images
I've a collection of church register images that I've downloaded during visits to my local Family History centre. Typically they are several hundred, comprising baptisms, marriages and burials for each parish in the area I'm researching. Each parish has its own folder. Many images have names of inte...

I've found a better alternative - it's OBS Studio - free and open source from https://obsproject.com Tools | Output Timer lets you define the duration of the recording so you can stop recording at the end of the video and it makes nice compact .mkv video files to watch later on your PC (I use VLC Me...

Re: Is it still possible to order a death certificate as a PDF??
thanks, Mike and David! That's very helpful as I now understand that the reason there's no pdf option is that the death for which I wanted to order a certificate was in 1960 and so outside the range 1837-1957.

Is it still possible to order a death certificate as a PDF??
I understand from https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/images/CG5.pdf that it's possible to order certificates as PDFs with the benefits of getting them a) more cheaply and b) more quickly, however, when attempting to order a certificate at https://www.gro.gov.uk I only see postal options...

I'm impressed by Quick Screen Recorder which saves audio and video from your screen as an avi file. List Individuals linked to a Source
Looking at an Individual's window, I can see from the All tab what Sources are linked to that Individual.
How can I go the other way, eg. for a particular Source, see to what Individuals it's linked? Ditto from Notes, Repositories, Submitters, Media and Places?
Thanks
S

Adding possible ancestors to FH
I've found some possible ancestors but have not yet found the proof that they are "my" ancestors. It occurred to me that I could add them with the appropriate relationship eg. Father, Mother, Sibling but record their name with question marks to indicate that it's not yet proven, eg. record Jill Doe'...
