Re: Tools, Working with Data
On further investigation it seems tha Legacy uses either the Microsoft Jet Database Engine or perhaps Visual Basic 6 on a Microsoft Office Access database. The challenge with Relational Databases such as that, is maintaining data integrity with multiple users potentially changing the same fields an...

Re: Tools, Working with Data
Sorry, thought it might help.
As to Legacy, so only one instance of the SQL database engine can be running, right? OK, I was mistaken about the registry then.

Re: Tools, Working with Data
Coming from Legacy Family Tree , one feature of Family Historian I really like is being able to run two instances of the program concurrently. Legacy FT does not permit it because of the way it uses the Windows registry (I think). FWIW, occasionally when a data screen/list closes in order to use a t...

Re: Family Media:Linking to Existing Fact Media
Works perfectly in FH, and also exported to and reviewed results in LFT and TNG. All link/notes retained with Fact Media moved to Family Media. FH looks so good now, I'm a believer in 'PoP', the power of plugins. :D . These, combined with the powerful built-in tools/filters/lists FH already has make...

Re: Family Media:Linking to Existing Fact Media
Great. I am convinced that moving Fact Media to Family Media will be an enhancement for me, both in FH and TNG (assuming the link/note text issue is not too much work to resolve). BTW...I found the thread I was trying to locate. It was at http://www.fhug.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=13372&hilit...

Re: Family Media:Linking to Existing Fact Media
You had asked about migrating the link/note text to picture note text. At this time, leaving it as a link/note would be fine, if the move media plugin brings it along attached in the family media tab. That way I wouldn't lose any reporting functionality, but would still achieve putting family photos...

Re: Family Media:Linking to Existing Fact Media
OK, hope these are what you asked for. I took a different family with less objects for simplicity. Included are 3 pre/post images. Re: Family Media:Linking to Existing Fact Media
Here's FH snippets pre and post plugin, but were you asking for the gedcom record(s) as well? I can get those from the RJ TextEd editor if you need them. My link/notes migrated from Legacy's 'description' area. In group photos, I often described everyone there, then copied (linked) to it for every f...

Re: Family Media:Linking to Existing Fact Media
I already had a Plugin to move Marriage Media to Family Media, but on closer inspection it did not copy those Link/Note fields, and had a few other deficiencies, so it took a while to update. Yes, it moved the media links to Family Media, but the link/notes were not. Were you saying that is not yet...

Re: Family Media:Linking to Existing Fact Media
OK, will give it a try. I saw a thread on this subject with you and another member awhile back, but couldn't find it after considerable searching. Could I ask what the thread topic was? Thanks for linking the plugin. I know the pros and cons were discussed. Thanks for the plugin updates backup optio...

Re: Adding to Knowledge Base
Thanks to both of you for the replies. That's fine, whenever Jane has the time. I just thought perhaps with 'edit' rights, the submitter was expected to expand the list, and I was attempting to do that, but as I noted, the prior entries do not appear in order that I could mimic the code found there....

Family Media:Linking to Existing Fact Media
After migration from Legacy FT, I have many family member photos that are attached to the Marriage Fact, and I would prefer they were in the Media tab. For an example, I tried adding to Family Media by linking to an existing Family Marriage Fact Media item. The result is a link is made to the Media,...

Adding to Knowledge Base
Last week I submitted a form with my TNG website and it properly appeared in the Recently Added to Knowledge Base area. However would like to have it in the TNG listing area as well, in this section: 1.jpg and also add my favorite Text Editor too 2.jpg In attempting to add a couple items to the two ...

Re: Clean Up Notes for Subset
Wow, wish I could do code so fast! Works perfectly. Of course working with 'test' FH file first, and have multiple backups as well.
This will be a nice 'real' example plugin to start to learn Lua by reviewing the changes you've made to Clean Up Notes plugin.
Thanks,
Ron

Clean Up Notes for Subset
How difficult would it be to have the Clean Up Notes plugin modified to move single-link notes to local notes only for selected single-link note records rather than all of them. Or, to have it only move single-link notes to local notes for single-link note records beginning with specific text. Have ...

Re: Gedcom Export to Legacy FT
No sparsity of documentation to help out,--a lot to read. However is spread about a lot, and in some cases it is a one or two sentence item which is easily missed (in my haste, perhaps). I did find your reference to the Tools/Preferences/Records Windows to show families. Many thanks! One learns most...

Re: Gedcom Export to Legacy FT
The suggested procedure worked very nicely with the two steps. At first I thought I lost 29 families, but realized the File-Export default ticked to exclude one member families. Unticked, then all matched to earlier statistics in TNG except no sources. I understand and agree that the plugin need not...

Re: Gedcom Export to Legacy FT
OK, will take a look at the procedure. Makes sense since the FH Export procedure has exclusions. I will export to a 'unicode' gedcom, excluding source, then open in FH and use the plugin. Actually, Legacy is very versatile in regards to exporting by tags, individuals and descendants, group subsets, ...

Re: Gedcom Export to Legacy FT
Sorry. Before posting (and pestering you, since you seem to answer most posts) I did look at the 'Help and Advice' and Knowledge Base articles, but I do confess to tend skim reading. The only references to Source in the Export plugin were in the Extra Options 'Source type 1_Type' which I tried, and ...

Re: Gedcom Export to Legacy FT
Legacy had options on export to exclude all source records. Does your Gedcom Export plugin? I see some options of source handling, but didn't seem to do what I wanted. Does the Export to Legacy FT (and TNG) have such an option?
Otherwise would need an editing macro.
Thanks,
Ron

Re: Gedcom Export to Legacy FT
Html looks good! Also, thanks for advice on uncategorized data. Have less than 100 items, pretty good considering ~14000 individuals and 4000 families. That means a very good match to original Legacy file, I think (and had no errors importing back to Legacy as secondary either). Thanks very much! Te...

Re: Gedcom Export to Legacy FT
Almost got it. Gedcom Export LFT 2.5.5 is finding the <tags>, but instead of outputting « and », the re-mapping both sides to ?tab? , or Hex 3F . 1.jpg 2.jpg Had a another quick question. For 'uncatergorized items', does one have to modify the FH gedcom to remove/correct them, or can they be fixed i...

Re: Gedcom Export to Legacy FT
Mike, I believe all of the html code is found in notes. Have shown here examples for 2 individuals. Nearly all are in the 'General' tab of the Legacy Individual screen. For each individual, have imaged the following: 1) The original Legacy note display before migration 2) The migrated FH note displa...

Re: Gedcom Export to Legacy FT
After I properly edited out the 'caption note:' all worked fine. Caption labels removed successfully from LFT Export, but.....the < x > single angles were not reverse mapped for some reason. T can live with that, since TNG is OK. For FH wish list, would be nice to be able to bold, underline, etc tex...

Re: Family Historian V6 installed in X86 (32bit?)
FH Supports answer was: "Windows 7, Vista, and XP, in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions" The program operates on both 32Bit and 64bit versions of Windows, but runs in 32bit mode. The reason we mention 64bit is some users don't understand that 32bit programs can run under 64bit OS versions. Minor point...
