Re: Using colour in Family Historian
Decided to test to the plugin Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings , carefully following the procedures given. Objective to see if color settings are restored. After customizing colors, first, used regedit , to exported full registry for backup. Then ran the plugin, chose Backup all files to ...

Thought I'd signed up for newsletters, but may have missed it, thanks for the link. Never had V5, being new to FH, but are the V5 tutorials free from FH site or?

Forgot to ask, you said:
Do all users receive that FH Bulletin?NB: 'GtMFFH6' is due out next week according to latest Email FH Bulletin but apparently only to purchase as hard-copy, not as a free download with tutorials?

Re: Using colour in Family Historian
I just used the Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings (for the first time) and it did back up items, but did give an error 'Too few Data Files' message. Is this OK? Is it because my data is on R:/ drive? 1.jpg Thanks on the Help pointers...will be looking around. Seems to be here and there. F...

Re: Using colour in Family Historian
Helpful points, thank you. I had used your plugin, but didn't notice the registry backup; that's great! FH should have supplied that natively, IMO. (You and Jane should be compensated for all the plugins written to supplement the native software). The plugins have made my migration smooth and export...

Re: Using colour in Family Historian
Thanks for the response. The reason for not being specific is because I was hoping all colour settings were kept in the same place. Unfortunate that they are spread about, and all in the OS or 'C' drive. All my projects are in a data partition for ease of image backup. Surprised there being any colo...

Re: Using colour in Family Historian
Could I ask what folder/files are color settings kept in? I seem to have lost my customizations after opening the sample project from FH (I could be wrong, could have been something else). Are colors unique to each project, or to all projects?

Re: Export Gedcom File (TNG)
An FYI for Family Historian users who also Export to TNG . Updated over the weekend to TNG 11.0 , and, except for one small glitch which the TNG author quickly patched, successfully exported entire FH gedcom using Mike Tate's Gedcom Export (TNG option) plugin. No other issues related to the import i...

Re: Export Gedcom File (TNG)
Works great! Hope it didn't take too much trial/error to get the Edit sequence that worked. I wouldn't have stumbled on that.
Thanks Again, Mike.

Re: Export Gedcom File (TNG)
One FH export plugin (and FH's native export) quirk I noticed today. FH outputs out all FILE pathnames with all parts capitalized, even though the actual media folder might be lowercase. This might seem insignificant, but there is a part of the TNG import process that, depending on some parameters, ...

Re: Create JPEG file (.jpg) with 300 dpi not 120 dpi
Glad you worked it out. You wouldn't have to manipulate your original image. I had assumed that you would take the zoomed larger image and alter the dpi with Irfanview, which is my freeware graphics editor of choice. That larger image will indeed print at higher resolution when sized to the page.

Re: Gedcom Export to Legacy FT
From your March 4th note: If nothing untoward comes to light over the weekend, then hopefully can publish to Plugin Store early next week. Feel free to experiment with options that may be useful to you. Curious about the general release timetable for Gedcom Export v 2.5.6 . Are you still planning to...

Re: Working With External File Links
I am OK with leaving the code as is. I suppose a note could put in the instruction for use. Most who use the procedure will likely know enough about Excel already. The user has to do put in some effort too you know. ;) Thanks again for making the procedure available. It gave me confidence my links a...

Re: Working With External File Links
Thanks, glad I finally got it right. What about the Query and Spreadsheet: Multimedia File Links range issue? I tried twice with the same result. I don't know VBasic but viewed the macro and didn't see a range other than the sort range A1:C9999. At initial load, the Column A is not getting a formula...

Re: Working With External File Links
Mike, See Knowledge Base > Query and Spreadsheet: Multimedia File Links that can list all broken links. Followed your suggestion and downloaded the macro/spreadsheet/query procedure. I have 3149 media links, and for some reason the macro stopped after 1999 rows, all links were OK=Yes. Any ideas why ...

Re: Working With External File Links
Mike, Thanks for pointing out my misstatement and I think in practice I knew this was to other records, since it makes no sense to have more than 1 link counted to an actual media file but does to other FH records. However, I had thought that if Check for Unlinked Media finds nothing it means...

Re: Small Backup
Are you using Windows? Since all a small backup does is copy/zip FH's gedcom, are you able to copy it with Windows explorer instead of FH? If not, could be something locking it, but then the other options shouldn't work. Strange. Are you using Windows? Sounds like a catchall, but have you tried reboo...

Re: Working With External File Links
The Check for Unlinked Media looks at your media folders and lists any actual media that are not linked by or used in FH. For the unused or broken links in FH, you can check the Media tab in the Records Window . There is a column heading Links which you can click on to sort, and any such links will ...

Re: Create JPEG file (.jpg) with 300 dpi not 120 dpi
Just an idea: The Save Diagram dialogue gives an option to save as displayed. If you zoom the diagram larger, and then save it the resulting jpeg is larger and printing will yield a higher resolution. If there are photos, until you zoom to actual size of your media, you will get better, larger image...

Re: Gedcom Export FROM Legacy FT
I decided to rebuild the FH gedcom with the Legacy Export leaving the move event box unticked to alter the handling of events for the migration to FH. Occupation/Religion/etc now presented as desired in FH and TNG , as well as LFT . The change moved over 800 of 4600 notes back to occupation/religion...

Gedcom Export FROM Legacy FT
Noticed this sometime ago after migration from Legacy to FH, and then export from FH to TNG, but was working on other more important items so left this go. When exporting from Legacy, followed the procedures; specifically to Tick Move Event Descriptions to the Event Notes field. . Wasn't sure what e...
