Re: From LFT: Cause:& Note
Update: OK, found the Cause in the 'ALL' of Property Box, but it seems so separated from the descriptive note, yet brings it together when exported back to LFT. When entering new similar causes¬es, what would be the procedure in FH?

From LFT: Cause:& Note
My FH data was migrated from LegacyFT . Legacy had some Medical notes like this: 1.jpg In FH, they appear as: 2.jpg In an FH Export to LFT (now secondary software) the 'Cause' has been retained. I know this because in FH a Search finds this: 3.jpg The question is, where in FH Focus & Property Window...

Re: Gedcom Export: Full File Path for External File Links
Perhaps we should leave the plugin as is. I will continue to use the 'REL path ' option w/o the file copy and can easily edit the output gedcom to insert the full rather than the relative path to FH media folder/paths . It looks like the existing ABS path is to the requested output folder (instead o...

Re: How to see list of my recent data entries and updates.
If you go to FH's Records Window , in the different tabs, there is an ' Updated ' field which should help you see what's changed. If the field is not there, right click to ' configure columns' and pick it from the available field list. The field is sortable, with alternating sequence by 'click' or '...

Re: Gedcom Export: Full File Path for External File Links
Yes, FTM could impact the FH media files. But perhaps still have the option, and the user doing so, is exporting to a secondary product, and should know the risks of direct links to the same media folder. I already am doing that with Legacy FT , only with Rel-Links , and to FTM , but with edited ged...

Re: Gedcom Export: Full File Path for External File Links
Update : I believe early on I tried some of the other ABS options . It appears the other options export the media files, which I do not want. I was looking for the ABS file paths and w/o the actual media being exported. The REL File Path option exports no media files to the output folder. Thanks.

Re: Gedcom Export: Full File Path for External File Links
OK, the FULL Frames through me off, since I don't use FH Frames , I wasn't sure what that created in the gedcom. More reading to do.

Gedcom Export: Full File Path for External File Links
Mike, have used your Export Gedcom with great success both to LFT and TNG . I do have one observation. The FH export gives an option to Use Full File Paths for External File Links but the plugin doesn't offer that option. This was not a problem with Legacy , since it has options to specify to multip...

Re: Upgrading to FHv6
FWIW, early on, until I became familiar with FH's project structure, I did accidentally create a project 'folder within folder' a couple times which needless to say was confusing, with all files duplicated. The actual FH gedcom is a bit nested (e.g.- -DriveLetter:\Family Historian Projects\FH03\FH03...

Re: Useful in US?
Ok, since Mike asked, here's some feedback from a USA user. As a longtime Legacy Family Tree (LFT) user for data input, and with a web presence with The Next Generation (TNG) , I was becoming somewhat disenchanted with the speed and clunkiness of media handling in LFT . I searched about various revi...

Mike,
Thanks for posting the comprehensive review links of Genealogy Software. Nice to see both FH and TNG rated well.

Re: DEAT record
But when first saved, the blank DATE and PLAC tags are automatically removed, and the Y is still missing. BUT if you open and close FH for that Project it rectifies that mistake. I did verify the gedcom DEAT line anomaly you reported ...the 'Y' is missing initially, then added after an open/close. ...

Re: DEAT record
I may have some misconceptions, but I'm not sure I wish to delete all of these; most are legitimate and determine whether visible as non-private per my TNG settings. I think w/o that record TNG (and Legacy , which I back-fill from FH) would assume living, i.e., individuals w/o a death date but who a...

DEAT record
My Gedcom has some DEAT Y/N records , originally exported from Legacy , which were set as specified by the tick of 'living, yes or no'. Occasionally an error is made as in this example. This is for people without a death date and the Legacy default there was not living. Where in FH does this flag ap...

Re: Backup & Restore FH Settings plugin and FH 6.2.0
An update for the Plugin for FH V6.2.0 is imminent (unfortunately I have to react to the Calico Pie releases rather than be forewarned). So I suggest you stick at FH V6.1.4 for the time being. I actually used the Backup & Restore FH Settings plugin and FH 6.2.0 and it seemed successful, except, of ...

Re: Getting the most from Family Historian
Yesterday I posted this question to Family Historian support. As a paid user (Feb 20, 2016) of a downloaded Family Historian V6.1.4 ., will there be a PDF version of the Guide to Getting the Most from Family Historian V6 available (at no charge). This was their answer: We are not offering a free cop...

Re: Using colour in Family Historian
Understood, just confirming your suspicions with a test. Ran another test, and this time closed FH, and manually copied the prefs.dat file from the backup folder over C:\Users\Ron\AppData\Roaming\Calico Pie\Family Historian\Preferences\prefs.dat the restored colors fine. So that's an add-on procedur...

Re: Using colour in Family Historian
Mike, ran a test with the new plugin Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings.fh_lua 2.35 after altering colors, closing FH, opening FH to make sure altered colors still present. Then ran the plugin, with restore registry option ticked , prompts to copy 'older' data over newer data, including pr...

Re: Using colour in Family Historian
Thank you, my mistake. For some reason it seemed logical that once it's imported, it would mean you want that scheme active. But Calico Pie actually took it one step further, allowing you to have several ' skins' right there in the menu; a nice touch. But...it wasn't intuitive to me. As to Help , I ...

Re: Using colour in Family Historian

Then closed/reopened FH , chose Import Color Scheme from the file I saved, and ask for confirmati...

Re: Using colour in Family Historian
Sorry to have been the one to put you on this path to adapt your (much needed) plugin to the changes FH 6.x has wrought. But sooner or later it would have been discovered. Is the rewrite of FH settings (from memory?) at program close a 6.x phenomena ? The cmd box procedure is not only messy for you ...

Re: Using colour in Family Historian
OK, sounds fine. FYI, just noticed one item that was preserved, or more likely not changed by 'installation settings' refresh, was the color chart custom colors, several of which I had created.
