Re: Link/Note in Media : how to create
Lorna, Thanks, that gets me close , but still not quite working as expected, if you compare the two snapshots below, the 'hillesheims' and 'hamps'', why does the latter have the 3 additional link/notes with the names inserted as notes? (the 'hillesheims' was entered some time ago, I believe during c...

Link/Note in Media : how to create
Time having passed, I have forgotten how to create a link/note for a media (photo) which then will be included with any individual linked to that photo. These were created in a conversion from Legacy Family Tree. The media link/note data is passed to TNG, and export is done with the plugin, which wa...

Check Plugins against Store v2.8
Been a while since I ran the 'check plugins against store'v2.8 plugin, but today, it lists ALL my plugins as not found in the store. Is there a maintenance function occurring on Saturday?

Re: How to see all FH Notes
Thanks Mike, (Tatewise), Sorry to have apparently posted an oversimplified request. You've Notes are scattered and linked throughout the FH gedcom. I was only comparing a listing which TNG offers of the Notes and associated links, which is searchable by keyword. I think if I need to, I can quickly t...

How to search all FH Notes
I export to TNG which, like the exported gedcom, indicates several thousand notes, and I can list them in TNG. They are present in FH, as seen in an individual's local notes. The records tab only indicates a handful of notes. Why aren't the local notes included in the records tab, but more important...

Re: V6 Help Please
Regarding slow performance in Windows 10 try: Right-click Start > System > Advanced system settings . Then under Performance click the Settings button, and choose Adjust for best performance . In every PC that I have seen updated to Windows 10 (including my seven year old Desktop), it has run faste...

Bob, that may work if making changes, but don't believe it will work to return to the last person you might have merely been viewing.

Re: A potential Convert from TMG
right-click on the person and from the drop down menu then displayed choose and click on the top option 'Make File Root' Derek, I believe Mike suggested this early in the thread. I have used this technique and it works pretty well, but would still be better there be added a preference to return to ...

Re: Downloading V6
I believe you only need one Family Historian license for up to two computers and also FH provides a sync procedure between them.

Re: Crossover Test Reg Access
Makes sense Mike, for those who use just the sync option, not to need multiple backups to cleanup. I'm one of those who does dated full Windows Image software backups, and am used to managing the backups myself, so I like having 'micro' application backups where available as well. Thanks again for y...

Re: Crossover Test Reg Access
Success! In a test of Backup and Restore 2.5 , the prefs.dat file and colors were restored properly. In this test, I first noticed in the options the ' utilise dated subfolder s' checkbox, which ensures one does not need to create a new or overwrite a prior backup, which is what I had been doing bef...

Re: Crossover Test Reg Access
Assume prefs.dat manual restore (or use FH color scheme ) remains with Backup and Restore 2.5 as per earlier notes: Yes Ron, that is what I thought I implied would happen. The other two Preferences files will Backup and Restore OK, but pref.dat will not, because FH overwrites it as discussed earlier...

Good compromise Mike. Should satisfy both sides with the request for a preference option.

Re: Import from LFT and Living Flag
Yes, that's what seems to be the case. Of course if there is a date and/or place, the LFT living yes/no is automatically set to NO. Otherwise it has to be set manually in LFT.

Re: Import from LFT and Living Flag
I guess, regardless of the terms, field names or flags, I'm just indicating the behaviour I saw since migration, as far as living or dead, is the following from LFT to FH to TNG: 3.jpg 5.jpg 4.jpg And this is maintained on a round trip back to LFT, with the FH gedcom export options chosen, so I'm OK ...

Re: Import from LFT and Living Flag
Thanks, the expanation helps a lot. I determined that the LFT gedcom apparently had what FH needed to create DEATH event facts and migrated fine, and from FH to TNG as well.

Import from LFT and Living Flag
Back a couple months ago migrated to FH from Legacy FT. There was an LFT Living Flag which may not have come across in the gedcom since the FH Living Flag is blank for everyone. The only way I can tell in FH is looking at the Death Fact for died or not, right? Or is there another FH record field whi...

Re: Notes
Mike, earlier you noted: You can sort any Column in any FH window by clicking its Column Heading as is common practice in most Windows applications with column displays such as File Explorer. The only variant is that whereas in many applications alternate clicks reverse the sort, in FH you must hold...

Re: Gedcom Export to FTM
OK, I can decide for my one-way trip which Gedcom Export method works best for me. I too may use FTM software, since I purchased it in 2014, mainly for research hints, but don't have interest in trip back to FH , at this time. Your description helps a lot. The Name Tag Style Note area from the FTM o...

For the zero linked Notes you wish to delete: In the Records Window, Notes tab, highlight the Note(s), then from top ribbon, click the Edit:Delete . Re: Notes
The Individual tab of the Records Window also, for me, is listing the first of local notes that exist. The note field column heading comes from the %INDI.NOTE2[1]% . That is of some help to me as well, and that tab can be sorted, and of course the record exploded to see all the local notes therein. ...

Mike,
Thanks for the usual thorough explanation you provide. No one knows the inner workings of Family Historian and the rules of gedcoms better than you, other than Simon and his team, I suspect.

Re: From LFT: Cause:& Note
Thanks Lorna. Got it. I missed that in FACTS tab, ...have to remember to scroll & explode all items. I was in ALL tab. However, compared to Legacy, FH seems to separate the two in different areas: Legacy 1.jpg FH 1 and 2 5.jpg 6.jpg After Export to LFT , they appear together again.
