Re: Media not visible
My last note was in response to Mike concerning the file paths necessary for Import to TNG , i.e., the Gedcom media file paths (desktop software side), matching up with 2) the Server media side file paths . TNG has a separate setup screen for each. As to long thread, yes, many times the OP initial q...

Re: Media not visible
Your posting refers to Administration > Setup > Import Settings without mentioning Configuration. Actually, the TNG Import Settings are reached w/o clicking on any ' configuration ' tab (sort of odd, it appears in the screen heading though). As to the details of importing from Gedcom , this link is...

Re: Media not visible
Mike, I do remember, as Ron mentioned, reading about relative paths to make sure that the media goes into the right folders. That is what should be shown in the Knowledge Base article. I can do that if you like, or you can use Ron's image. Cheers, Remember though, the screenshots represent two diff...

Re: Media not visible
Kathleen, from your screenshot presumably your Media files have migrated from TNG into C:\_Data\tngfiles801\... . I suggest you use File Explorer to move them into your Project 's own Media folder, using sub-folders as preferred. Then use Tools > External File Links > Auto Repair Links to adjust th...

Re: Media not visible
Mike has good advice. One should have only one primary or master genealogical software database, i.e., where all data input is performed. I chose FH over Legacy FT and TNG , for various reasons, but one was the excellent plugins available, especially the Export to Gedcom , which has options tailored...

Re: Multimedia Records
OR, you can choose a sub-folder within that Media folder if you want to retain some organised structure to your Media files. I highly recommend this suggestion. I created 4 folders within FH's Media folder: photos, documents, census, and headstones. I use the Export to Gedcom plugin with the TNG op...

Re: Backup files
My 'in place' Windows 10 migration a year ago on several laptops (myself and family) was smooth, but I must say this mandatory push of new Windows 'feature' updates is rather frustrating. The users have lost any control over what comes down to their systems. So far, have not had any significant perm...

Re: Rotating Pictures
FWIW, Irfanview's FAQ indicates: http://www.irfanview.com/faq.htm#Q7 Q: How to use JPG lossless operations (Rotation, IPTC, Comment, Rebuild EXIF thumbnail) in batch mode? A: Start the Thumbnail window, open the folder with JPGs, select many JPGs and see in thumbnail menu File for JPG Lossless Opera...

Re: Rotating Pictures
There are others, but Irfanview's standard plugin set includes software to do lossless rotation of JPG (not PNG): * 34. JPG_TRANSFORM.DLL - This PlugIn allows IrfanView to process lossless JPG transformations: vertical flip, horizontal flip, rotation, crop or marker cleaning.

Query for Multimedia Links to Record ID's
I've looked over the standard queries, and tried customizing a couple to display the Media Object, the Media File Name, # of Links, and the Record ID to which the Link is associated. I'm able to get all but the last field/element, the Individual Record IDs to which the Media Record is linked. Any ea...

Re: Help with Queries and DRA
And higher up the same list is clayton dennis . I can only guess that you have inadvertently created them, possibly by an import of data from elsewhere. Yes, likely imported, since migrated from Legacy Family Tree a year ago. Guess once I get a better handle on this material, I can delete those. Di...

Re: Help with Queries and DRA
Ron, firstly to complete the picture, the general construct used in Expression and Template boxes is an Expression . See how_to:understanding_expressions|> Understanding Expressions which cross-refers to the FH Help pages, etc. That also says that Expressions are composed of Data References and Fun...

Re: Help with Queries and DRA
As you can see in the All Individuals Query, the column named "Relationship to Root" uses the Function =Relationship() , not a Data Reference. Where, in which list, did you see " katie ella "? OK.... data fields versus functions ...makes sense, since relationships are calculated/determined not fixe...

So looking in Query Window, All Individuals , on the left are all the possible data references, with '+' signs and options to display the data reference name or id. Is there a way to expand all of the '+'s to find a particular data reference, e.g., the relationship to root data reference? BTW...ther...

Help with Queries and DRA
Having used Family Historian for a year now, I am interested in gaining more knowledge of FH Queries . Been looking at the various posts and the Knowledge Base for bits and pieces here and there. I see reference to the Data Reference Assistant , but not sure where or it is or if there is a complete ...

Re: Quick Child/Family Snapshot
Thanks for the detailed explanation, Mike. I was confusing the term File Root with Root Person , as it is used by FH . In TNG , some Mods (~plugins) use the term 'set as root ', or LFT refers to ' starting person' for relationships, and are referring to what FH calls the File Root . I hadn't seen th...

Re: Quick Child/Family Snapshot
The Root Person is whichever Individual record is currently selected whether in Focus Window, or Records Window, etc. Mike, I'm missing something here, perhaps clarification on what you call the root person would help me. I thought (also in TNG and LFT as well) it was only the individual to which a...

Re: Quick Child/Family Snapshot
Nice idea Ron, but that is simply not possible. No one knows more of FH's inner architecture than you, so take your word for it. But I am surprised, that the plugin, at user direction, cannot simulate 'x'ing the plugin window. Or is it the 'modal' environment that prevents the plugin from 'talking'...

Re: Quick Child/Family Snapshot
Yes, that is the one Ron. I will consider adding [Rec Id] to a future version. If you do ever add the Rec ID , another nice addition would be a right click option to close the plugin exiting (avoiding the modal issue) to the focus screen of the root person of the plugin. Just a wishful thought.

Re: Quick Child/Family Snapshot
Just discovered another work of what I call Mike's Magic , the Quick Family Fact popup , and assume this thread is about that. Very snappy indeed. Navigation substitute of the focus window too to traverse up, down and around. Would be great to have the ID's displayed as well, or be able to right cli...

Re: Export Gedcom ASID tag Errors in LFT
OK, which I assume means any new options you add to your plugins will accommodate the users settings in the older versions, and vice versa. I was fearful, not knowing what's going on 'under the covers' , that switching to older version, that the new options in the settings might cause a 'crash' or m...

Re: Export Gedcom ASID tag Errors in LFT
Thanks Mike. That might explain some of my strange results when trying the older versions of Export Gedcom v2.6 and v3.0 . I might have been trying to use mismatched settings (v3.2) with them, since I didn't copy/restore the associated project plugin dat file , only the global one. I was afraid to u...
