Re: Export GEDcom plugin -- some questions

Yes, the Individual Record ID is a personal preference in TNG for readibility (letter P next to numeric is much better than letter I), since the alpha portion is displayed there. But I make that change with one command in my text editor....no problem. TNG will accept any prefix. I will adjust the re...

Re: Export GEDcom plugin -- some questions

OK, Mike so I made the two suggested changes in the LFT export and now looks better. I should have mentioned there were only a handful of the actual Note Record ID's renumbered (38). Record Note 1 NOTE set to Media Caption Note (LFT) (needs to be renamed to Adjust Note Link (LFT)) Subsidiary Note %d...

Re: Export GEDcom plugin -- some questions

The LFT import looks good, even with the apparent renumbering. What are the Note Record Id in your FH master Project? . The Note Record ID' s are like the 'before' , e.g. 490 vs. 1 . I suspect they've been that way since I migrated from LFT last year. If things look OK, should I still be changing as...

Re: Export GEDcom plugin -- some questions

OK, for the LFT option, since it is a new option not in v3.2, I changed the Subsidiary Note to Keep Standard Tag . Now nearly identical to v3.2, (w/o the ASID of course), but the a renumbering? of NOTE (s) as follows (from the top of the Gedcom, first Note at line 1653).: (EDIT....this involved only...

Re: Export GEDcom plugin -- some questions

Thanks Mike, Did a test, and did a full file compare of v3.2.3 output Gedcoms to v3.2 , both TNG and LFT . I changed no settings; thinking all options from v3.2 I had before would carry over to v3.2.3 , except I cleared Caption Notes: label in the new Label Options tab. The TNG looks very good, with...

Understood, I would only do it for viewing only on one of the instances anyway..thanks for confirming.

Re: Out of memory warnings with 2 projects open

In the last couple of weeks I've been using two copies of FH open at the same time, to compare two projects containing some duplicate branches of individuals that I am gradually merging into one tree. Are you using Windows? I thought it wasn't possible to run multiple instances of FH. It seems I tr...

Re: Gedcom Export: Full File Path for External File Links

The genealogy programs which I use for viewing I always rebuild the entire database file from scratch. This is true with LFT, FTM and TNG as well. That's probably the easiest and safest for my purposes, and of course, the media folders are shared as well, except for TNG, which reduces file maintenan...

Re: Family Historian V6.2 undocumented features

Mike,

Yes, it is nice to see a version change listing. Would you now recommend FH 6.2 users move to 6.2.5? Or might it introduce new wrinkles rather than fixing old ones?

BTW..No urgency at all, just wondering how's it going on the Export to Gedcom plugin "solution" you were considering?

Re: Export GEDcom plugin -- some questions

Aaaaaaaaaah! I think I know what you are saying. You don't want the whole Caption Note and text removed, you just want the Caption Note: label removed. i.e. 1 NOTE Caption Note: Lots of caption note text. becomes 1 NOTE Lots of caption note text. What fooled me was your consistent use of caption no...

Re: Export GEDcom plugin -- some questions

Mike, Sorry, but I'm getting confused as to what settings I should be using to achieve what I had with v3.2. These are the settings (LFT) v3.2.2 aka 3.3 , and by now I think you know what I had with v3.2 ( all OK except removing the ASID manually), but I'm not sure how to get there with v3.2.2. I st...

Re: Export GEDcom plugin -- some questions

Mike, Tried the v3.2.2 plugin and did full file text comparison (BeyondCompare) to see all changes compared to v3.2. with TNG and LFT export, and your suggested options: a) without the Omits, but all other settings as I had them before: ASID's removed but Caption Note labels remain., (not desirable)...

Re: Export GEDcom plugin -- some questions

Whereas now it seems you want no Caption Notes at all, at all. There are also possible Picture Note and Keywords labelled Notes on Media. You may not use them, but would you want them removed too? Mike, In that post you referred to, Export to Gedcom v3.2 was discussed, and, with the settings chosen...

Re: Export GEDcom plugin -- some questions

To keep it manageable, the rule will be that they are omitted if the captions are identical and less than 250 characters long, such that they fit into one Gedcom line. Will that satisfy your needs? In the Gedcom for LFT and TNG, here's an example (also contains ASID orphans, which I remove manually...

Re: Export GEDcom plugin -- some questions

So, my current plan is to detect such identical repeated captions, and omit all but the first one. That maintains my ideal of retaining all the Link/Note captions, but only if they are different. To keep it manageable, the rule will be that they are omitted if the captions are identical and less th...

Try that attached Export Gedcom File Plugin ZIP file that must be extracted. It offers my first stab at a GEDmill export option and adds some toggle options to the bottom of Extra Options tab. Yes, if its not too much effort, having the your TNG option of Export to Gedcom plugin doing some cleanup to the Place and Address fields would be most welcomed. If you need any testing, let me know.

Re: Gedcom Export: Full File Path for External File Links

As Mike notes, from the outset over a year past, after migration from LFT to FH, I decided to keep one set of media files. The only restriction is to not do any editing of media or other write activity whatsoever in LFT , with FH being my sole input software. No problems experienced doing this. I ex...
