Re: Census Page 1 info - how to record it and use it?
David The information page may not be necessary as a source record but I would always record the information contained. The enumeration district can be very helpful. On Ancestry if you scroll to below the search box and click on the England census 1881 (eg) a box to the right opens and you are able ...

Helen
Thank you for clarification I just knew that some people had found ancestors on one site but not on the other, especially when FMP had been laggardly in updating their records.
Ann, stay safe and well.

Re: My Father in 1939 register
I believe some people have found that on Ancestry a record was open but on FMP it was redacted. I read it depended when the company updated their record set.

Re: Who should you add to your tree?
William As Colin said there is no right or wrong way to conduct your research. My experience is, particularly as you go further back in time, you might not be actually related by blood to some of these people but there could be marriages within the family community which involve these people and wit...

Re: Are English parish record images online?
Bill If the date you are looking for is in the same church record around the same date it probable that the information will be the same for all the surrounding records. The change could come when there is a new register or a new vicar. After 1813 there were forms, some vicars did record the date of...

Re: Are English parish record images online?
Bill Just as an addition to Anne's reply about Find My Past and the A -Z of records. I agree with her that look for the parish but if your search doesn't return your ancestor go back to a general search as well, as with FMP's Staffordshire records the name doesn't always turn up even if the name is ...

Hi Hope all are safe and well. As many are, I am trying to use my time productively. I am embarking on an attempt to synchronize my paper files and Family Historian. As I have had FH from when it came out I have lots of different ways of entering information as I learned as I went along. One thing I...

Dear Evelyn I don't understand all the technical topics you have been raising but I can endorse the comments about Libre Office. I use it all the time and the presentation is excellent. I have used it with many talks and it has all the features which I could need. The other features are also very ea...

Re: Grandchild, parent unknown
Dear Colin It has just occurred to me that in 1871 it appears that the family of my 2x gt grandparents had split up. Mother, Sarah, took her son, my gt grandmother went to live with her uncle. However the eldest daughter, Alice Jane went to live with a family named Gregory. She is listed as "grandda...

I'm on Chrome but don't have any sound. Have looked at control panel and lights are checked. Sorry Mark I love the sound gets rid of frustrations going along smashing them! Jane mentioned Firefox but don't know anything about that.

Hi, I have put this under "General" as it is only an idea and wondered if members had any thoughts or had tried it. Our son is a professional musician and often after concerts members of the audience will say to us "Isn't he just like his Dad". When he was born I would totally agree. However as he h...

Hi
Having researched a family who married German immigrants and their experiences during the 1st WW I found the same as Lorna, that they were no longer regarded as English or Irish in one case. One lady was sent to prison for staying with her sister.

Hi, We tend to think of our research taking place in archives, libraries, on the computer and perhaps visiting the places where our ancestors lived but sometimes a performance can really enhance our understanding of the lives of those who went before. Re: Birth and death registrations.
Hi Adrian I have come across "causing the cremation of the body". It was for my cousin's grandmother who had taken several years of research. When we finally found her death we were hoping that the informant would lead to someone who knew her. Alas when I phoned the Register Office in Blackpool the ...
