Re: Media preferences

Hi, actually looking at it I have the dates ok but it is the preferences order which I require as some of the cropped images I use on reports etc are not within the date order. I click the preferences arrow and it comes as I want it but it is when I close and reopen that the preferences order change...

Media preferences

Happy New Year, Not a terribly important query but when I open the media tab in the property box all the images are mixed up. They have their correct numbers and appear as liked in the focus window but in the media window they are jumbled up. I click the preferences tab but when I close, then open a...

Thanks

I know this isn't a question but at this time of the year I would firstly like to thank Mike, Jane, Nick and all the other members who take their precious time to help those of us on the forum who struggle with problems. My new year's resolution is to try and understand expressions and queries. A ve...

Editing

Hi, I have looked in Help and KB but have not been able to find an answer my query. Sometimes I find additional information or a fact which needs amending to a census for example and would like to pull up the original form in order to edit it. I looked in the log files but could not find a way to al...

Re: Christmas is coming

My husband came rushing in asking if my new computer had broken because of the noises emanating from it. I assured him everything was fine as I smashed all the bulbs! My next task is to navigate through them without smashing them. Merry Christmas Jane and thanks for all your help during the year. :l...

Plugin Store

Hi, just wanted to check that I had the relevant plugins before I transfer to new computer. Tried to get onto page via FH but said 'page cannot be displayed'. Tried via FH site and again not able to get a list. Am I doing something wrong? Regards Ann

Re: Organizing photos.

Hi Bill, I use a colour system for my general organization. A different colour for the main 4 families (I do both mine and my husband's tree). I also use a colour system for the generations, so across all families the generations are the same. Mike managed to sort out for me that I was in effect lin...

Thanks Nick. Hopefully I am having a new computer in the next few days so things will be different. I have downloaded all the Knowledge base instructions for my engineer to follow hope things will right themselves.

Re: Linking images

Hello Nick, Yes I wanted to link an 1841 census image. It is jpeg. I clicked link from file found the folder but the image didn't show. I tried changing to 'all files' it was still not there. I have since tried in FH to find the same file and it is there. After trying the 1841 census I tried to link...

Linking images

Hello, I have just tried to link an image from file. When the 1841 census file came up the expected entry wasn't there. I thought I hadn't downloaded it so went onto Ancestry and downloaded it. I returned to the add image window and tried again. The same thing happened. I decided to check the file w...

Hi Mike, thank you so much for taking the trouble to explain things. I think I have some work to do! I never have really understood where files go. Regards Ann

Re: Organizing photos.

Mike, I thought when I first had FH it was recommended not to store images in FH as it made it too big. I will be having a new computer very soon. Won't my files in My Documents and My Pictures be the same when transferred to the new computer?

Re: Organizing photos.

Hi Mike, I have photographs in windows in My Pictures with each of the 4 main names with it's own file. There are then files for different categories such as photos of places. The media files in FH are then given the same categories and letters. The census images are in My Documents. There is a file...

Re: Organizing photos.

Hi Jesse, I don't usually post a help message as it is usually me who is asking for help but this is what I do (hopefully I can explain it concisely). For both my images and sources I have a category system which is alphabetical. For Sources for example: parish registers are in category A, so PR bir...

Re: Missing files

Dear Mike I had not realised that I should back up AS. I was relying on the information going into FH. Being dim, what is the reason for using several sticks please? (This would be useful for my husband as he does all his accounts on his computer and backs it every week but on the same stick). Thank...

Re: Missing files

Hi Mike,
I have not used the plug in. I will certainly look at that.
I used to use an external hard drive, which still has plenty of room on it, but it is a bit cumbersome now. However I do have some back ups on that but my latest are on a memory stick.
Thank you Ann

Re: Missing files

Hi Mike, I do back ups following everyone's advice. The odd things about my Custodian problem was the backups disappeared. I had some Custodian 3 backups on an old external hard drive but they only kept opening 4. I appreciate you and Nick taking trouble with what is probably my own fault. I have no...

Re: Missing files

Dear Mike and Nick, Thank you so much for your replies. I am sure I used to open the project file as soon as AS opened. The last time I opened AS I had a message to say that there were no log files. (I also use Custodian 4 and all my projects have disappeared from there leaving just the program. Jus...

Missing files

Hello, I haven't been on AS forum before as fortunately all the time I have been using Gedcom Census and AS I haven't had a problem, until now. It is a few weeks since I came to enter some data. I have just opened AS and clicked on my project file but nothing happened. No list appeared. I am at a lo...
