Hi,
Doing some research for an online course I have been doing. If any one has ancestors in Shropshire I found a very interesting site www.shropshirehistory.com . It has many useful background articles and it appears is being added to.

Re: Blank web search
Hi, Don't know if I have the wrong issue, but we had a thread several months ago about FMP hints being very faint. I frequently have this issue and often when I first go for a hint my area is blank. I just close the hints area and go back to FH click on someone else and try again and it comes back, ...

Re: Source Types and templates in fh?
I do much the same as Colin. I find that if all the reference for a source is the title the source list becomes unmanageable, so for Parish Registers I have A (this is my code for parish registers) c (this is my code for baptisms {christenings} then the surname, then Christian name. In this means al...

Re: Windows update
Thank you so much for your help. I am so grateful I am back to normal. The computer settings were at 125% and when I tried to alter those it went wrong. They were ok it is the internet buttons that needed the correction.
Very best wishes Ann

Screenshot.jpg I knew you would ask me for a screen shot one day Mike. I know you like the pic to appear on screen. I got the screen shot into Paint then saved as jpeg and then attached but didn't know how to make the picture appear here. It is I think the update you mentioned. It happens in Google...

Windows update
Mike This isn't actually a Family Historian question but a plea for help. Last night I clicked on the message to do a Windows update. It took 2 hours. When it had finished my favourites bar had lost 2 sites. I managed to find out how to alter the names to get my sites back, however this morning all ...

Re: Best way to search a Census
Hi, I agree with Anne. I have all the census cds for Staffordshire and although I have both Ancestry and FMP I still return to my discs to check that the online providers have not missed anything. Like Anne I spent many hours going through each disc and found many people I would have missed just loo...

Census refs
Sorry if this sounds silly but I happily enter census info via AS and add the images. Just curious, when I click on the census in the facts list the information comes that X appeared in the 1871 census. I then click on the citation but there is no reference there. When I go to the source records all...

Family Historian e-book
I have just seen a post on FaceBook about a Family Historian e-book. Looked on FH web site but couldn't find anything. I am doing an online course about writing up your story and e-books have been mentioned. Is the Face Book a scam or if not, does anyone know where to find details please? If it is g...

Hi, When the offer was available previously I'm nearly sure (I could be wrong!) that you just clicked on the link and you received the download straight away. GRO certificates
Hi,
I haven't checked this myself as yet but reported on a couple of reputable forums, including Midland Ancestors, that the GRO are doing their pdf downloads of certificates for £6 for a period of 6months again. Only birth and death I believe. I'm off to make my list!

Lichfield Record Office
Just a note for those who research their families in Staffordshire and actually parts of Shropshire, I have had notification that the record office in Lichfield will close to researchers at the end of the year. Most of the records will be moved to Stafford but some will go into store and need 14 day...

Re: Find my Past... or Ancestry ?
Hi, I have had Ancestry for several years, however at the beginning of the year the Midland Family History Soc was running an offer of 25% off FMP, so I treated myself for my birthday. I am very glad I did, I have found lots of parish register entries there. I do not like FMP's search methods it is ...

Hi,
Not being factitious but I don't really mind what colour they are or their title as long as they show up, which can take several goes, particularly on first tries, as per posts several months ago!

Re: Possible conflict in research
Hi Anne, I have been in touch with a few people when I discover a discrepancy. Sadly like you I am ignored or have had a rebuff. Like you I am quite happy to share my research. I have found a couple of like minded people and with one lady in particular we have been working together with messages fly...

Re: Possible conflict in research
Dear rfj1001,
Thank you for that. It is one way to go as there are actually more George Woodvines, not least a couple with criminal records!. I have proved a couple are not mine by newspaper reports which give his age, but there are a couple who might fit the bill.
Thank you Ann

Re: Possible conflict in research
Thank you all for your thoughts. I think I will just make a note about the "wrong" George, enough that my son, Gwilym, can follow my reasoning. Lorna I did once think of putting my tree on line but it takes time to keep it up to date and correct and in the end I decided that I would rather spend tim...
