The virtues of FH
Hi I have recently joined a U3A group. Last meeting the subject of family history programs came up. The tutor had a family tree generated from FH. I said I could take my laptop in to the next meeting and show them FH and AS. I will probably only have a few minutes to talk about it. What would be the...

Re: Programme changes from Ancestry.co.uk to Ancestry.com
Hi
This has happened to me over the last couple of days. I log onto Ancestry.co.uk then when looking at search results see loads for America and glance at address and it has changed to Ancestry.com. It happened earlier in the year. It is just a thing Ancestry does from time to time.

Re: Media sorting
I think that is a lovely idea. I would like to use it also. Won't it just be like adding a photo of the individual as the program doesn't differentiate between a face or a flower? If it is the primary or perhaps media for those people won't it show up as the first thumbnail on their focus window? Th...

Re: GRO PDF Sytem
Hi Roger, Sorry to be awkward but surely you supplied the exact reference either from the GRO index or Freebmd. When they ask you to check what you have ordered they quote the reference you entered, so there should be no confusion. Is it possible that the death you thought was yours was in fact anot...

Re: Census, 1939 Register, Electoral Roll
Going back to what David said about addresses being misleading. I totally agree. Stoke on Trent is a nightmare. The whole is 17 miles long but made up of 6 towns with lots of villages. All are listed as Stoke on Trent and there are the same name for streets appearing in most of them. Unfortunately y...

Mike
I find it very useful as I can see at a glance which folder to go for, black for death certificates, red for marriage and green for births then there are different colours for parish registers, censuses etc. As you know Mike I like to keep things simple. It might help others.

Re: Mary E. V. Hill's FamilyRoots Organizer Color-coding filing system
If it is the Organization Course I found that very interesting and came to the conclusion that there were as many ways as there were students. I have always used a colour system. I research my husband's family too so I have blue for my Mayers, red for my Parrs, purple for Alan's Simcock and green fo...

OG in Parish Register
Hi I have just been adding some images from FMP hints and came across a burial in Stoke St. Peter's Church. I have had lots before but written in the margin by the side of this and a couple of others were the letters OG. I can't think what this refers to or means. Would be grateful for anyone's idea...

Don't know what a Chromebook is but a friend sent me a gedcom file last week and it opened easily in FH. I just gave it a new name and project. Sorry if this irrelevant.

I only use the one image for the household as Mike said. AS links it to all the people so if I am looking at one of the household the correct image is next to their census fact. I think

Re: Find Census Information to enter into Ancestral Sources
I suppose my way is a bit longer but they appear in order. I start with x for 1841-1891 and y for 1901, 1911 and 1939. In this way all the censuses appear at the end of the list and don't get mixed with other images or sources. So my name appears as:- x4 Mayer census 1841 Cain If there are more than...

Father ?
Hi, Just out of interest I wondered what other members would record. I have just received a marriage certificate for my great grandmother's illegitimate daughter. Mary was born in 1902, 3 years after my great grandfather died, in 1899. Her birth certificate does not name a father however on her marr...

Re: LDS Resource File Viewer
Hope not speaking out of turn Pauline but not sure if the problem is not having the discs, as I understood it, it was the discs not being compatible any more with modern computers. I had the same problem.

Re: LDS Resource File Viewer
Hi, I too have the discs. I tried to find a disc and there was a link on line but was advised that it was not safe. My solution is to use my very old laptop which I keep just for these discs. I still like to go through them than on Family Search. So old technology for old technology! Sorry can...

Yes Mike, but I don't know what Windows File Explorer is. As you know from having to explain the very basics to me I'm not technical. I just thought if John was not technical either "Paint" is I think there on any Windows set up. It was a coincidence that I had the same problem at the same time. Is ...

Re: Turnng photo around
Hi John, I had exactly the same problem yesterday when my sister in law sent me a photo. I looked at the KB which Mike sent but I am not familiar with the programs referred to so I opened the phot in "Paint" and corrected it there and then attached it to FH. It worked fine. Hope it helps if you don'...
