Re: 1939 Register
David, that was what was my problem, you get one from FMP and a different one from Ancestry. I totally agree with you about how the locations are recorded. Stoke on Trent is a nightmare as only Stoke is used and not the individual towns and there are lots of streets bearing the same name in each of ...

1939 Register
When the 1939 Register was only on FMP the transcriptions gave a ref. RG101 etc, However when it appeared on Ancestry the ref was totally different and not with the usual RG101 then a string of numbers and letters. I do find the images on Ancestry clearer and sometimes they cannot be found on FMP. H...

Re: The Theory of Eight
Hi David Newton
Yes thank you I have looked at it. Not been working on that line lately so will look again when return to it. I did have a DNA match who had Wildgoose but he said he had got to a Viking and when I asked him if he had looked at it I never heard from him again!

Re: Living "over the brush!"
Thank you very much for the replies. As far as I know they never used Ford at any other time and in fact the eldest daughter who was living next door as a lodger with my great grandmother still retained her Hunt surname and another of the daughters who was called Ford on this 1881 census married wit...

Living "over the brush!"
Hi, I would appreciated any thoughts on the following situation. My 2x gt aunt, Ann Yale, had an illegitimate child. I have given her an unknown spouse with status, "never married". She then married George and had 5 children. I have made George spouse no. 2 in the usual way. George died in 1874 in S...

Re: Sources not showing
MANY many apologies I have just realized what I have done. It was years ago when I entered the census data for this family, probably in the time of Gedcom Census. I have my code x which put census sources at the end so I don't have to scroll through loads, then 9 for 1891 then … I always used to put...

Re: Sources not showing
Hope this will work! FH Garner.png That was my Property box with source but I tried to show the AS window with choose source pane and an AS shot when tried to add from scratch but the files were too big. Sorry tried lots of ways to show the AS screens but all too big. It is probably that I have done...

Re: Sources not showing
Hi I've been adding images to existing sources for ages and it was worked fine. In many cases I have added the census information to the family but just have not added the images. If I try to add the census from scratch in AS it says a fact for that person already exists, so all I need to do is add ...

Sources not showing
This morning I have been trying to add census images to census facts which already appear in the FH property box. Most were fine but some I discovered that I did not have the images, I therefore downloaded them. The census facts appeared in the individuals facts in the property box but when I clicke...

Re: ThruLines on Ancestry
Helen, as you say even basic research can give you the same results. I think the main thing is that if you don't understand what Ancestry is doing you could think that this is the easy way to "proved" results and will lead to even more trees with errors. I didn't follow at first I was taken in and i...

ThruLines on Ancestry
Ancestry have got a new feature on their DNA pages. On the page where it says view all your matches on the right is a box which leads you to ThruLines. It uses DNA results and member trees to lead you to your actual ancestor match. Yes, sounds good but there are caveats. The ancestors appear in date...

Re: Sadler Disputed descent
Dear Evelyn
Your link worked fine. I had a look but I couldn't see a possible link. I must admit though that I have not researched the Sadlers very fully. I concentrated on those connected to my Parr line.
Thank you
Ann

Re: Sadler Disputed descent
Hello, Nothing to do with your dispute but I have a William Sadler (1846) Hanley whose father was Edward, born in Shropshire. William married my 2x great aunt Mary Ann Parr and they lived in Tunstall in the Potteries. Edward was a cabinet maker and William worked in the Pottery industry. They went t...

Sorry
I stick to a very simple operation and don't always follow what others are trying to do. It is sometimes that simple is effective. Thanks Mike.

Re: Add source - sort order
Hi I might be getting the totally wrong end of the stick but to order my sources I do not use the title I put in categories and then give them a code eg, parish registers begin with A, then Ac for parish register baptisms, Am for parish register marriages and Ai for pr burials. There is a different ...

Re: Ancestry DNA tests
Hi, Like Mike says you are lucky to have established a common ancestor, in all my matches I have not found a common ancestor yet! I am not an expert but to answer your question regarding if this establishes your line as correct I would say that every step should be verified by traditional research a...

Hi I find it difficult to know how a direct line has been established with certainly without researching other family members and witnesses, informants, neighbours etc as this adds credibility to research. Then I probably come into the obsessive category! ;) Also they are only names, not people with...

Re: 2nd project
Hi Mike Thank you for your information. Wish I could afford to give her FH! ;) It is only since I gave her the DNA test I won for star letter in WDYtYA magazine that she has the family history bug but it is probably just confined to her dad's side as I have done most of her Mum's side, our common br...

Re: 2nd project
Dear Mike and Jane Thank you so much for clarifying the situation. Sue is in the process of sorting a program so not sure yet she might just use a free one like Legacy as I am the person who does all the research but I thought it would be helpful if she had a program to keep all the research in orde...

2nd project
Hi Sorry I know everyone is busy at this time of year but hopefully the answers will be yes or no. I acknowledge that received advice is to have one project, which I do for my family as my root is our son, so both mine and my husbands family are together. However I am trying to help my cousin find h...
