Re: Ancestry Discount
There is also a link to a code on one of the Ancestry UK Forums on Facebook (not the official Ancestry page). You can canel your account and get an email to say it is cancelled. The moment it expires at its normal expiry date you then only have guest access and can subscribe with the 50% discount. I...

I have installed FH V6.2.7 on my new laptop (the target laptop) running Win11. I have copied over all my data fro my source Win 8.1 laptop as per the copy and migration guide in the knowledge base. I have registered my new installation copy of FH6.2.7. When I tried running the Backup and restore plu...

Re: AS 7.3.3 update to latest version
To clarify: I backed up the old settings in AS on my old (source) laptop. I went to download AS on the new (target) laptop but couldn't get 7.3, only 7.5. I thought I would try updating on the source laptop and then got the error message. I have downloaded 7.5 on the target laptop and overwritten th...

Re: AS 7.3.3 update to latest version
Helen, yes it has come to the end of it's useful life. I am not even sure it would update to Win 10 and reluctant to try until I have moved everything over to the new laptop. it is lovely having the two next to each other both being able to be on the internet!!

Re: AS 7.3.3 update to latest version
Nick. Will it make any difference if I have run the backup in the old version on my source laptop and then use those folders to overwrite the folders created by the 7.5 version on my new "target" laptop?

Re: AS 7.3.3 update to latest version
Thanks, Nick. At the very worst if the settings don't go over ok then I can have the two versions up side by side and make changes that I can. As a matter of interest I found this on the internet, not that it really means much to me https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/173758/the-requ...

AS 7.3.3 update to latest version
I am preparing AS 7.3.3 and FH 6 to migrate from old laptop Win 8.1 to new laptop running Win 11. I have run the backup AS from Tools but noticed that the only version I could download onto my new laptop was 7.5. I then tried to update my old laptop to 7.5 so I could rerun the AS Backup to copy the ...

Updates to AS
I am one of those very happy people that have used AS since I bought FH version 6 back in 2016. |It has made inputting sources so much easier for me. I haven't done much FH over the covid era due to health issues (not covid related) and only just reached a point to be ready to get back to it. Can I ...

Thank you Jane.
It was lovely to meet you at Rootstech and thanks for the quick help with sources in v 6 and using witnesses. At the moment I use Ancestral Sources for BMD certificates and census.

DNA Set up
I am a low level user of FH and been using it for 2 years now. I mainly input data, sources and rarely use the diagram view to find people. I print a few basic reports for my paper files and use a few queries to find information I want. I have been reading the DNA posts on here and the various metho...

Future Research
I have been trying to work out the best way to record something with further research needed and have read the two methods of Named Lists and Custom Attributes but not yet worked out which is the best approach for me. Giving an example: Entering a census and you find a visitor/boarder/lodger that ma...

Re: Biting the bullet
Thank you everyone. I did just want two different projects open so that I can amend Named Lists in each project as a cross check that everybody goes over in the new tree which it seems I can do. I am doing this as a brand new start rather than wanting to import corrupt sources etc.

Re: Biting the bullet
Thank you for the explanation. I need to get my head round the best way to do this. I certainly need your suggestion to use the Named list so that as new family members are added e.g by census entries, they are added to the list so that I know I need to go back and research until happy complete. I c...

Re: Biting the bullet
John Wright Can you please explain your solution: This post started with the question, "How can I mark records I've finished copying from FTM?" The solution - a new 'Named list' and 'Set Marks using Query". Slick & easy. I am in the process of restarting in FH from FTM with a blank new project. I ha...
