Re: Questions from TMG Refugee
Mike: I'm not sure what you mean by "screenshots of data" in regard to TMG. If you'll explain exactly what you want, I'll be happy to supply it. Thanks for your help. -- Carl

Re: Questions from TMG Refugee
In 0002, all those Part 1 (http... etc) URL are not valid Place or Address values. Please explain what they represent and what you hope to do with them. I checked in TMG, and these were all references within source citations. They tended to be birth or death citations of sources which were located a...

Re: Questions from TMG Refugee
I just spent several hours rearranging my columns in my Places list. I've now got almost everything in order, except that I have some stuff that I think should be in Addresses rather than Places. I know how to do this manually, but it'll take a lot more time. I'm wondering if there might be a way to...

Re: Questions from TMG Refugee
Adrian, This is very helpful. Thanks for your reply. I did not realize that you could add additional columns. That'll make this whole arrangement process much easier. And, thanks for mentioning Address. In TMG that was part of the Place list. I hadn't fully comprehended that in FH it's a separate en...

Re: Questions from TMG Refugee
Ken: Thanks for your thoughtful reply. Interesting that your Polish names were not supported in TMG and my Icelandic names were. Polish being a more common language I'd think it would been fully supported. I remember early in the TMG setup process there was an option to select various character sets...

Re: Questions from TMG Refugee
Thanks everyone for all of these suggestions. I'm just back from my short trip, and it'll take me a day or two to look at each suggestion and figure out how it fits into my genealogical workflow. I truly appreciate each and every response and the time it took to provide your feedback to my original ...

Re: Questions from TMG Refugee
Lorna, Thanks for your thoughtful reply. I did, indeed, mean report rather chart. I've made the correction in my original post. Your suggestion about "diagram-based" editing sounds interesting. I'll give that a try. No, I didn't know about holding the letter key down in FH. That's exactly what happe...

Questions from TMG Refugee
A few months ago I made the move from TMG. This was difficult both because of missing features and because having been a TMG beta tester as far back as the DOS version I had a lot of emotional attachment to the program. After using FH for several months now, and converting from John Cardinal's Secon...

Template Errors on GedSite after TMG import
I recently used the FH direct TMG import routine to import my TMG database into FH. Everything seemed to go fine. However, once I exported using the plugin for GedSite and then made a site I find that I get multiple template errors. See the screenshot below. I've been struggling for the last week to...

Re: Searching for family members with accent marks in name
Thanks, Jane. That does work. I was able to find both surname searches and full name searches (both first and last names) with that plugin using Soundex. It's one extra step, but it's easier than typing all the accent and other marks when using a Windows keyboard. Those kinds of things are very easy...

Searching for family members with accent marks in name
I'm a refugee from TMG. I have a lot of family members on my mother's side (Icelandic) that have all kinds of accent marks in their names. In TMG I was able to do a search for them without entering the accent marks, which was quite handy. For instance I could search for "Jón Björnson" by typing "Bjo...

Re: Ancestry.com integration
OK, please tell me why the Brits pronounce "Worcester" like the way we in the State of Ohio, USA, spell the city located in this state: "Wooster"? I always tell folks from Massachusetts that use the British spelling that by the time the settlers got to Ohio they were more into phonetic spelling. ;-)...

[...] or if you prefer programme. See, I can speak British! A sterling attempt indeed, Carl, and much commended but, alas, not quite right (you didn't think we'd make it that easy for Johnny Foreigner, did you?). A television or radio transmission would be a programme , as would a printed guide to ...

Re: TNG sync
Carl, I think you misunderstand who we 'guys' are. This is the Family Historian User Group ( FHUG ), that is run by volunteers completely independently from the FH developer Calico Pie . See the first few Popular Topics in glossary:index|> Glossary of Terms . I suspect that Calico Pie folks monitor...

Re: Ancestry.com integration
No, I had not. Thanks for the link, but these are "work arounds" rather than an actual integrated solution. I hope the latter can be worked out.tatewise wrote:Carl, have you seen how_to:exchanging_data_with_ancestry_ftm|> Exchanging Data with Ancestry and FTM?

Ancestry.com integration
Is there any chance that FH could work out an agreement with ancestry.com like RootsMagic has negotiated? They are working on a complete integration with ancestry.com that will allow "tree syncing," searches, source downloads, etc., from ancestry.com within RM. At this juncture only RM and the now i...

Re: TNG sync
This is a feature that would interest me greatly, if ever developed. I suspect that Darrin, the developer of TNG, would be open to this kind of an alliance, as I think it would make his product more attractive to more people and would increase his sales. Seems to me it would be a win-win situation w...
