Re: Sentence structures
Mike, Re: Sentence structures - thanks for the response • Post by tatewise » 28 May 2020 21:28 You may be expecting too much from the report writer Sentence Templates and there are several scenarios that you should take into account. 1. You may get the necessary indent by inserting tab characters af...

I have only been using FH since early January so if these questions are overly simplistic I apologize. When importing my existing data into FH I get many errors, not the fault of FH, so I am using my time to clean up my existing data so the import will go as clean as possible. In that effort I also ...

Re: RootsMagic Import error
Thank you Valkrider and Tatewise. I suspected as much but wanted to make sure of this. I'm sure I can come up with an automated way to do this. I will need to study your plugin capabilities. Both FH and RM are due out with new versions so I hope I can wait for that. The problem may just disappear or...

RootsMagic Import error
Since I became a user of FH 6 IN December I have been working on getting my current genealogy into FH 6. I have run into one error on import that I can't seem to get a consistent answer on. (not from FHUG members) My export contains the following code: 0 HEAD 1 SOUR RootsMagic 2 NAME RootsMagic 2 VE...

Version 7
I researched FH 6 about 5 years ago but was in the middle of a conversion so decided to stay where I was. In December 2019 there were hints that if you bought FH 6 then there would be an automatic upgrade to 7 when released. Since late December I have been a licensed user of FH 6 and I am re familia...

Re: PDF and Images for Medium to Large Diagrams
This post is somewhat old but I was wondering if FH has tried to write to the Adobe PSB format which will handle images of 300K pixels by 300K pixels which would create an image at 300 dpi of 1000 inches by 1000 inches. Certainly large enough for anything I have. All my PDF saves have resulted in 4 ...

install new trial version
About 20 month ago i installed FH version 6 to see if FH would solve some of my issues. I had already converted my TMG database to Rootsmagic two years earlier. I realized then that I had a lot of cleaning up of data that was not caused by any software product. Just my overzealous use of TMG. At som...

Re: trial version
When I evaluated FH 6 there was no direct import from Rootsmagic therefore I needed to use GEDCOM. I have been off TMG for too long a time to go back there. If there is a direct import now that would certainly be helpful. I have looked to find the old files from January and it appears that when I un...

Re: trial version
Mike Thanks for the response. The issue of the trial is as I suspected. I read the response on sentence structure you pointed me to and it appears that that is very similar to the TMG methodology. I am assuming that the GEDCOM transfer has not been changed so that I would need to adjust for Roles an...

trial version
I migrated from TMG to Rootsmagic in 2014. At the beginning of 2016 I spent about 2 weeks looking at FH from an external view and then installed the trial version and spent the full 30 days evaluating. At that time I found too many issues to resolve, but I was really impressed with many features. So...

Narrative report output format.
I have seen several discussions about formatting the output of reports to include many word processor type functions. In TMG I used formatting options and field names on many many of my facts. It worked great but when I needed to port my data to another application there were issues beyond belief. I...

Re: Sentence generated in Narrative
Thank you tatewise. I tried this and it solved the problem. It is so simple if you know the product well. I will learn and I am just starting to move data from RM7. I would like to get it all correct the first time if possible since I did not when moving from TMG to RM7. Good opportunity to clean up...

Re: Sentence generated in Narrative
Someone in our genealogy group suggested I try several different iterations of my fact and various sentence structures to define when the event is occurring. All my changes were done through the Tools> Fact Types screen. My fact is defined as: Name: Anecdote Label: Anecdote Abbreviation: blank Sente...

Sentence generated in Narrative
I have custom fact types and I have run into a situation I don't understand. In a narrative report if I have an address field in the fact type it works not to my liking. If the address field is blank then it does not print out. If put address into my sentence structure it does what I requested. If I...

Re: Gedcom import errors
Just as an FYI When I import from an RM7 export, the sources do not import correctly. The first is what gets exported from RM7. When imported into FH6 all is not well as you can easily determine. If I correct the source in FH6 and then export from FH6 I get the second description. It appears that th...

Re: Gedcom import errors
Thank you for all the info on Gedcom standards and how everyone is treating them, software wise. I am trying for a solution and have tried the following with a small one person project. 1. Export from RM 7 without the extra details (rm specific). 2. I edit the gedcom file created in step 1 and chang...

Re: Gedcom import errors
I have done further testing using the error report from FH6, the export from RM7 and trying to figure out where thee errors are coming from. I mapped the standard fact types from FH6 against the fact types in RM7. There are some items that equate but many that don't. Add in the custom facts that wer...

Re: Gedcom import errors
Thank you for the response and pointers. TMG was great and now I want to find a permanent replacement. I followed your pointers but did not find an answer to my problem. I have been in Rootsmagic for over a year and have added many facts, people and even new family branches so going back to TMG woul...

Gedcom import errors
I migrated from TMG to Rootsmagic 7. I now see that Family Historian may have many more functions than RM7. My imports from RM7 create many errors. I have tried to isolate the issue and finally created a clean and empty new project in RM7 and imported into FH6. I still have many many errors. They se...

Re: FH platforms
We will all need to evaluate whether we switch now or later. I chose to switch now and did so to Rootsmagic V7. While it was the best that I looked at it fell far short of the capabilities of TMG and FH, now as I look at FH. The comments about GEDCOM are valid since I lost data converting from TMG t...

Re: FH platforms
Thank you, that is exactly what I need to know.
Because it is written in C then they only need a C compiler of which there are several. The internal storage of data does preclude any external software accessing the data such as SQL tools. And this also answers my concern over item 3.

FH platforms
I am a long time TMG user. Late 2014 I made a switch to Rootsmagic v7 after looking at Legacy, FTM, and Rootsmagic. I don't know how I missed FH. Because of the reasons for the demise of TMG I look to do some due diligence before investing a lot of time and effort. 1. What development platform is us...
