Re: Forced Logout
Mike, Pedant that I am, Remember me next I visit the site is not the same as keep me logged in, even when I am not visiting, which certain sites do in order to track you. Now Jane has explained it, I may use it in future. BTW Familysearch has keep me logged in for next 14 days, but sadly it doesn’t ...

Re: Forced Logout
I don't know if this is relevant, but the actual iPad login occasionally doesn't work correctly. Normally, I click Login , the iPad retrieves my user name and password, which I then click to confirm. On the odd occasion, the forum, instead of logging me in and presenting me with the Board Index, it ...

Forced Logout
Over the past few days at seemingly random times, when using my iPad, I have been logged out when trying to return to Board Index Scenario: 1. Login 2. Navigate to a sub-forum and or sub-sub-forum, that indicates there is an unread post. 3. Find an unread post 4. Read the post 5. Click Board Index a...

Re: Media and Transcripts
What I tend to do with multiple images such as this e.g.Service records, which can run into many pages, is to store them in an appropriate place within my filing system, and just add bare details as a fact to the individual and then just add a simple source to indicate I have the actual image. The g...

What! I already have a 40” monitorLittle.auk wrote: ↑23 May 2023 10:32
It might be worth asking FH Technical Support, but think the only way to make things look bigger is to get a bigger monitor.
I could change the resolution I suppose, but then it wouldn’t allow so many windows open at once.

Re: Place location indicator
Peter I think you misunderstood my request. It is the crosshair themselves that I want more visible. These need to be bolder, to stand out. I really do find them dificult to find sometimes, even though I know they are dead centre of the map. Following another post, I've managed to thicken the Window...

Place location indicator
When one clicks ‘Locate Place on Map’, the map moves to centre the place on the map under the cross in the middle of the map. Does anyone know how to make this cross more visible? I know it is in the centre of the map so one should know where to look for it, but these ageing eyes of mine often find ...

Re: Query and Plugin Result Sets
I agree, especially useful when there are too many Columns to fit a single screen, when moving too far to the right, causes column 1 to scroll left off screen. Users define column headers, so why not allow them to define Row headers too, that when clicked could highlight whole row? Another alternati...

Lorna,
Quite right!
i changed to ‘Metrolike’, and thought at first nothing happened, as colours stayed the same.
Then quickly realised the layout had corrected itself
Thanks

Jane,
Am I missing something, as all sub-topis still appear at bottom, i.e. no change.
Or is this related to me using Safari on an iPad?

Re: Forum Changes
I've already raised that point with Helen but unfortunately the practicalities make it difficult. If you click on one of the subforum links in the General Forum description you'll be taken straight to the subforum. If you get into the habit of doing it that way you won't need to scroll down to see ...

Re: Forum Changes
Sorry Helen, but must comment that to have sub-folders below the General Query posts doesn't seem a good idea! Would the subfolders be better positioned at top of General Queries folder, with General Query Posts below. It then might encourage/remind users to post in these sub-folders rather then the...

Re: Places & Address
I don’t understand why you would want to do that, doesn’t make it easy for autogeocoding - but hey, each to his own What I did spot in you query results is that you are inconsistent in how you use commas and spaces when you specify a place for the residence. I spotted ,[space]Croft,[space]Lancashire...

Could the '+' mean with?
Eloped with ganger of railway
Does this tie in with Henry's occupation, and Martha being under Age.
Where did the marriage take place, 'Gretna Green' by any chance
(didn't see Uffculme

Re: Recording the sources for a relationship.
Mike, yes, you must add Role definitions of Mother and Father to the Christening (or Baptism) event. Use the Tools > Fact Types... dialogue to Edit... the Christening event Sentence Template and the Role templates. Use the Roles for the other Roles as a model for your new Roles. If you get stuck th...

Re: Recording the sources for a relationship.
RS3100 Your point is well made, but pre 1837, the only evidence we normally have of a child's parentage is the christening entry, so I was merely trying to tie the parents to the child via the witness fact, it is the only evidence we have. It is more likely they were both present at the christening,...

Re: Recording the sources for a relationship.
Mike, I was trying to add a Witness role to a Christening fact. I added an Individual, selected mother's recordname, but when I tried to define her role, Mother was not in drop-down list, only Godparent Minister Priest (or create a new Role). Whereas if you add a witness to a birth fact you get Fath...

Re: Recording the sources for a relationship.
Is it an anomaly in GEDCOM, but it seems parents cannot be a witness to a christening (at least according to FH) despite their names appearing in the Parish Register, doesn't seem to make sense!
Yet father can be a witness to a birth, when most likely he wasn't actually in attendance

Re: What is an objective definition of "Splitting"?
I am simply trying to figure out what is best for me. For me to make an informed decision, I needed to find an objective way of defining the "Splitter" end-member of the spectrum. When I started using FH, I used to quote a Parish Register image for a Christening as "St George In the East Register I...

Problem adding source for witness role
I thought I'd begin adding marriage witnesses to my marriage facts, but appear to have hit a bug when I try to add a citation for the witnesses. I followed on-line guidance, and added my two witnesses to the marriage fact. That worked well, and marriage sentence reflected the addition of the witnese...
