Modify children view in focus window
Currently, the focus window for a family, show just Name, Birth Date and Death Date for children, with no indication of where they were born. I suggest the view be amended to show Name, Birth Year, Short Place of Birth, Death Year, and Short Place of Death. This would be useful when searching for th...

Re: Display Birthplace in Focus Window
Thanks Mike, I was thinking of just a short date plus abbreviated place, as full date and place can be seen in property box as you say if you need more detail. I was thinking it could be useful when searching for a family on a census. Showing all the children's birthplace could help identify correct...

Display Birthplace in Focus Window
I know FH is highly customisable, but is it possible to add 'Birthplace' to the 'Birth' field for the children, alongside birth Date in the Focus window? The field is certainly big enough to accommodate it.

Re: Expressions in Custom Query
Mike,
My reply to your suggestion I was missing the ( )'s seems to have disappeared into the ether. Sorry about that.
You're quite right, it was the missing brackets that was the problem.
Thanks

Re: Expressions in Custom Query
Well, almost right. The resultset didn't include FileRoot() I got round it by creating a list call 'Root' and added individual to it. I then used Add if =IsInList(%IND%,"Root") and that works, but surely there must be a better way? What expression can I use in the Add if.. field? in order to include...

Re: Expressions in Custom Query
PeterR,
I had just worked that out when I saw your reply.
I came up with a slight variation :- =IsAncestorOf(%INDI%,FileRoot())
It works!!
Thanks

Expressions in Custom Query
I am still getting familiar with queries, and have modified a few quite successfully. I now wish to customise the 'Ancestor' Query, so that it always runs with my 'FileRoot' as the "Starting Person" without prompting. A lot of the columns include ["Starting Person"] in their expression. Which I unde...

Re: Save Diagram as PDF
Peter, It helped identify the problem - Thanks. FYI Windows has a known bug of failing to start the print spooler after a system restart. I had started FH before checking spooler was running, so although I could see the PDF printer, FH couldn't, as spooler wasn't running when FH started. Although I ...

Save Diagram as PDF
When I click on "Diagram/Save Diagram As/PDF", a popup tells 'PDF file Output is not enabled'
How does one enable this?
(I have printed the diagram as a PDF using the FH PDF Printer, but "Saving Diagram As" seems a neater way to do it, and am frustrated that it doesn't work)

Re: Variable abbreviation/truncation of place names - possib
Peter, The property box for place, has two usable fields, 'Place:' and 'Standardised:'! If I read the help correctly, if 'Standardised:' field is blank, Geocoding acts on 'Place:' field. If not, then 'Standardised:' is used for Geocoding My thoughts are that if you put the full US name in the 'Stand...

Re: Add a Fact Defaults
Mike, As I stated, I am aware that most things can be done if you know where to look. The trouble I find is that the menu items don't neccesarily reflect what it does. Who would guess that fast-fact enables one to modify the drop down list? If the term 'default' or 'option' had been used somewhere, ...

Re: Custom Facts from FTM [Solved]
Lorna & Mike
I have achieved what I wanted. I created a 'Custom Id' Fact, and used the Change Any Fact Tag plugin to transfer all the data to this new fact.
One advantage of using a fact rather than the existing field, is that I can copy & paste the fact, which I can't with a field!

Re: Custom Facts from FTM [Solved]
I fear I jumped the gun with this problem. As Custom Id didn't show up in Add facts, I wrongly assumed it wouldn't show up in the Change facts plugin, so would be unable to use plugin to change it.
Fortunately it does show up, and I did change it successfully using the plugin.

Custom Facts from FTM [Solved]
Whilst using FTM, I created a fact called 'Custom Id', which I have given to all the individuals in my tree When importing the FTM Gedcom into FH6, the information has been imported with the fact type 'Custom Id' and can be seen in the 'All' tab of the property box. The problem arises when I add a n...

Re: Family Tree Maker Tidy
Mike,
I didn't check if there was a plugin for those UDF facts specifically, but thought that if Jane was producing a plugin especially for importing from FTM, it would be a good idea to add them to it, so clearing as much rubbish as possible in one fell swoop.

Re: Family Tree Maker Tidy
Jane, A bit late, I've only just fininished clearing all my UDF's - haha. However you might consider catching all the other 'special' tags used by FTM. The military ones immediately spring to mind. I think they were _MIL or something similar. I found I had a few of these when I added service details...

Re: Security aspects of plugins
Mike et al, Whether code is run or interpreted, LUA is a proper language, and like all other languages, interpreted or not, has the power to interact with the PC, and not just with FH. I'm re-assured that Calico Pie checks all Plugins in the library, but I think users should be made aware that plugi...

Security aspects of plugins
What safeguards are there that plugins aren't susceptible to trojans? As much as I dislike asking the question, it has come to my attention that there are those worried that plugins could pose a computer security risk, and have the potential to contain trojans. Are they wrapped in any sort of securi...

Re: Setting Flags to Records in a Resultset
Mike,
Thanks for that. It explains why menu item is greyed out.
Peter,
Adding Seleceted records to a named list, just adds the place 'Kent' to a list, which also explains why menu item is greyed out, i.e they are not proper records as Mike states.

Setting Flags to Records in a Resultset
I ran the plugin 'Search and Return Resultset' for Individuals whose location contained 'Kent', and got the resultset that I required.
I now wish to Add a 'Kent' flag to every record in the resultset, but the 'Set Flag to Row Records' option in the query menu is 'Greyed out'.
How can I do this?
