Re: Paste a 'New' Copy
No, I'm not familiar with either, but suggest neither is copied across, as they are not shown in the source property pane, and user would not be aware they were copied. In principle, only the data normally visible in the source property box needs to be copied. Copying 'hidden' data is fraught with d...

Re: Paste a 'New' Copy
Personally, I don't think it is necessary, because being a 'New' source, it would most probably come with new media as well (e.g. Census image), so copying existing media would be a waste of time. I simply want as many data fields from the selected source, copied into the 'New Source Record' fields,...

Re: Paste a 'New' Copy
Mike, No, I was intending to drop Auto from the title, adapt the wording, and generally request that a pre-selected Source record be used wherever appropriate, with examples for Auto Source Citation and Add Citation > New . Mike, I was not sure whether you still wanted to pursue this request, judgin...

Mike,
Fine by me. I like the option to customise date, nice touch.

Re: Paste a 'New' Copy
Mike, If that means using auto-citation, then no, not the same thing at all! The wish is for it to be done from the 'Add Citation ' dialogue box, which I already have open! I highlight the source closest to what I want, then click a 'Copy' button to copy its details into the Dialogue box, ready for ...

Re: Modify children view in focus window
My ultimate aim is to have place of birth as well as date, shown for children in the family view. If that can be achieved without mucking around with the date, all fine and dandy. However if showing full date would compromise showing the place, then I'd rather have just year shown and place of birth...

Re: Modify children view in focus window
I disagree. When viewing a family on a census return, you see the children's names, ages AND places of birth, which are often different places. It is easier to see if this is a match to our chosen family at a glance , when the children's place of birth is listed. Ideally, this information needs to b...

Re: Problems with census searches on Findmypast [Solved]
Helen,
I know what you mean, especially concerning 1841, but if one specifies the year one is searching, it doesn't take a lot of effort to adjust resultset accordingly - it is computerised after all. Just lazy programming on their part.

Re: Problems with census searches on Findmypast[Solved]
Having been shown how to correctly search the UK censuses
, I then discover that by doing it the proper way, also affects how the results are shown!!
What on earth are Findmypast playing at? Why can't they show results like this ALL the time

Re: Problems with census searches on Findmypast
Nick,
Now that I've found it, all I have to do now is find out how to get Findmypast to add Place of Birth to the result set.
PS I had used Findmypast previously, but they had changed the search form since then. Glad to be back on track.

Re: Problems with census searches on Findmypast
Helen, Thanks, that's exactly what I want, but how do you get there? Like most people I think, from opening page, I click Search , then Census and land Surveys , and finally Census , which I assume is where FindmyPast wants us to go, but the resulting search form bears no resemblance to your search ...

Problems with census searches on Findmypast [Solved]
Does anyone else abhor the search Criteria used by FindmyPast for Censuses? Unless I'm doing something really wrong, the Criteria requested is Forename,Surname,Dob etc as one would expect, but then asks where one would expect to find the individual :!: Why does it not ask where the individual was bo...

Re: Surnames in Brackets
I get round problem of unknown surnames, by using Nee ?? in the surname, like Mary /Smith Nee ??/. for example, when I know Bill Smith has a wife called Mary from a census, but I have yet to find their marriage. This has two advantages 1. I don't get confused over the many Mary /Unknown/ in the list...

If you wish to rotate jpg/jpegimage on your PC, open it in Picture Viewer, and click one of the left / right rotate buttons. CAUTION if you don't want the effect to be permanent, make a copy of the file before opening the file in Picture Viewer, as it saves the rotated file automatically, overwritin...

All you need to do, is rename the file and delete everything after '.jpg', so your filename becomes

Sorry Mike, I did do a search for 'Remember' and nothing similar came up. Can I therefore assume 'Search' is not global? Perhaps I ought to make another entry to wishlist to make it apply globally ;) Edit: I just looked at 255, and I think the title is very misleading! At a quick glance, I would nev...

On exiting, FH to remember last person in focus.
When exiting FH, it would be nice for FH to remember which individual was in focus at the time. When re-starting, user could then be given the choice of Starting with the Root person ( as now ) or return to the last used person from previous session. Users often spend time investigating a particular...

How does the wish list work?
I have posted a request to the wish list, but I am confused as to how the list operates.
I understand, and accept that wishes are 'voted' for, with the most popular going forward, BUT how does one vote for one? I can find no facility/mechanism for voting for or liking a proposal!
What am I missing?

Re: FH6 on a new windows 10 PC
John,
Like you, I have a new Windows 10 PC, and FH runs like a dream, with no problems whatsoever. Being a new PC, it has a faster processor than my old one, so the only diferences are positive ones, and with a 40" 4k TV to use as my monitor, couldn't be better.

Re: Paste a 'New' Copy
Adrian, I see where you're coming from, but I truly hadn't thought of doing it that way! It just seemed natural to add a fact first, then add the citation to show where I got the information. On reflection, either way seems as good as the other, except doing it your way, you guarantee not forgetting...
