Re: Quality of media images in diagrams

I've abandoned the idea. No matter how much I resize the image, pixels, cms or inches, I lose too much definition when its viewed in a diagram. Perhaps I'm expecting too much of FH.

Ho-hum, back to the drawing board ;)

Re: Quality of media images in diagrams

Mike, The article image (which displays fine) is 431 x 471 pixels @72 dpi The Baptism Image (display blocky) is 4992 x 4144 pixels @150 dpi It would seem that if I reduce the Baptism image to 72 dpi, it results in a Blocky image, exactly the same as it appears in the diagram, my conclusion is that t...

Re: Quality of media images in diagrams

Thanks Mike, perhaps I need to double check that.
I really thought resolution was fine, as I can expand it to fill full screen and it is as clear as a bell, whereas the articles gets a bit blocky, so I thought Baptism image would be fine too.

I’ll do a check of reolution, size etc and report back.

Quality of media images in diagrams

I have attached a newspaper article as media to one of my relatives, when the person is included in a diagram, image is still readable when zoomed in. Yet when I do the same with a baptism image, it is unreadable! Both images are jpg and both view well in windows photo viewer. Is there something I c...

TIP
There are some groups already supplied, but if you want your group to appear at the top of the group list, just prefix the title with an underscore character, and it will be sorted first

Re: FH PDF Printer Dialogue Box opening Position

Some of my images are very detailed, and at 300dpi are unreadable:-
300 DPI.jpg
300 DPI.jpg (131.89 KiB) Viewed 468 times
but 2400 very readable:=
2400 DPI.jpg
2400 DPI.jpg (298.43 KiB) Viewed 468 times
We don't all just show photo's :D

All I have to do is workout why detailed baptism images don't come out as well, even at 2400dpi

Re: FH PDF Printer Dialogue Box opening Position

Mark As you may have guessed from the size of my files, It was a large All Ancestor. - Left to Right diagram in high resolution colour (2400dpi), which FH PDF printer handled with ease, producing a single page diagram. Addendum-I don’t want to print a file at all, I just want to produce a high resol...

Re: FH PDF Printer Dialogue Box opening Position

Just use the Microsoft PDF printer instead - it's just as capable, and better behaved. Well I disagree with that! 1. FH PDF Printer allows me to change DPI setting to 2400, whereas MS PDF printer has no useful advanced settings, just Portrait or Landscape! 2. It left off most of my diagram, instead...

Re: FH PDF Printer Dialogue Box opening Position

clicking OK to that opens the FH PDF dialogue top left - I presume this is the one? Yes, that is the one. It looks like I'll have to live with it until MS comes up with a solution. Apparently problem has existed for at least 10 years according to MS Community, so I won't hold my breath waiting for ...

FH PDF Printer Dialogue Box opening Position

When I print to the PDF Printer, the FH PDF Printer dialogue box always opens Top-Left of my screen, which on my wide screen is very annoying. Anyone know of way for it to remember where I last moved it to, or failing that, make it open at centre of screen? UPDATE It seems to be a common windows pro...

Glenn, IMHO It is fairly well hidden, and not at all obvious Go to Tools>Preferences>Property Box (Other windows have the option to change colours too) To the right of Thumbnail Size , is an innocous box labelled Colours , which, despite its close proximity, is nothing to do with Thumbnails (same go...

Re: Saving Diagram Options

Thanks Mike,
I didn't see that option  , I wonder why they didn't put that option at the top of the list alongside Family Historian Chart ...?

Not the most obvious place to look, i.e after PDF, JPG, EMF etc etc, which to my mind are Export type options, rather than Save As options within FH

Re: Two Questions Re Ancestors By Generation Report.

Glenn,
Try playing with colour settings, you can select different colours for selected and unselected tabs etc. There is an aweful lot you can customise this way. You don’t have to stick to the boring 50 Shades of Grey

Mike,
Am I right in thinking this problem exists in Ancestors Left-Right ?
Despite clicking set as defaults... none of the settings has been applied to a new diagram.

Re: half relations

You are half related to someone if you only share one parent/grandparent etc. but not both!
e.g. If you father married again and had a son, the son would be your half-brother, because although you share a father, you have different mothers!

I forgot all about using Insert Data Reference

Customising Colums in Records Window

I am viewing some generic sources in the records Window, some of which I know have the Author Field set to "TNA", which I wish to remove. However I cannot get the author field to show in a column in the Records window! When I Right-Click column heading to configure Columns, the 'Author' item is not ...

Re: Allow use of 'File Description' when creating and opening projects

Am I missing something here, surely a solution was suggested in the above post, whereby " (%CUR_FILE_HEADER.NOTE2%)" could be inserted into the property box title, so file descriptor is readily to view at all times, simply by looking at Property box header. I have used this method quite successfully...

Bearing in mind the list is deleted at the end of a session, I’d go with your option 1.

Re: Effective/Efficient use of Icons in Charts

One thing I do find annoying regards icons, is their placement. With a top-down or bottom-up orientation, the icons are placed tidily below the long side of the box, however, with a left-right or right-left orientation, the icons are placed alongside the short side of the box, which makes for a very...

Duh- I was looking down the left hand side, not in middle of dialogue box, I thought those two boxes were associated with Thumbnail size, so didn't give them a glance!
IMHO a silly place to put it, it should be listed on left hand side :x

Re: Project opening warning/notice

I use the File Description in the Header record to have a brief description of each project and have then modified the caption of all the property boxes to add " (%CUR_FILE_HEADER.NOTE2%)" to make it visible as much as possible. Sounds a nice idea, but what steps did you take to achieve this? I can...

I thought the explanation of %INDI.FAMC>HUSB>NAME% made it fairly clear. Just omit each trailing field in turn and interpret the description given. What do you think is the difference between %INDI.FAMC% and %INDI.FAMC>% ? That is explained in: INDI Start with an INDIvidual Record FAMC Within this ...

Re: Expression in diagrams

Thanks for that, I’ll give it a try when I’m next on my PC. Without belabouring the point, nowhere in the help or KB explicitly explains the use of the trailing > . They both show examples of it in use, but that in itself, does not explain why it is there or needed! It makes it easier to remember so...
