Re: Diagram Box Colours based on Flags
Not exactly, because Flags cannot have associated values, but you could have three Flags with related names such as Checked Yes , Checked No , Checked In Progress . Actually, as the first two flags are mutually exclusive, one could get away with only two flags i.e. Checked and In progress

Re: Floreat
Peter, Following on from Jimlads suggestion, if he was alive in 1360, for FH purposes, you can guesstimate his lifespan as 1360+\- 50 years. With a 100 year lifespan, I don't think you'd be far out. I too use a similar system to Jimlad, so that chronological listings or time related queries have rea...

Re: Internet data matches - change FMP to .com?
I too suffer from slow FMP screens, especially when viewing images! If i download the image before it has fully loaded into the viewer, I invariably get the image downloaded long before the viewer has rendered it! i.e. I see the image quicker via the download than via the image viewer. This is when ...

Re: Preferred Format for Places
Mike, I like your thinking, but the snag is that something, plugin or whatever, doesn't like just a comma, and insists on inserting the space anyway. I have never knowingly added these extra spaces, but they got there somehow. Much as it pains me, I think I'll have to standardise on <comma><space>, ...

Re: Address and Place, yet again
At the risk of prolonging the debate, as far as I see it, the 'address' is simply a piece of text which forms part of a list within FH, to aid autocomplete when entering an address. If one thinks this way, 'St Mary's' itself has no meaning until it is associated with a Place i.e Place + Address, in ...

Re: Address and Place, yet again
Nigel, The simplest way to think of places and addresses, is to consider your postcode, which form part of your 'single address'. When mail is collected, the originating sorting office only looks at the first part of the postcode (Place), so it knows which destination sorting office to send it to. T...

Re: Preferred Format for Places
David, I understand where you're coming from, and my comment was certainly not meant as a criticism, more an observation. I have yet to add media to FH, so am not conversant with the problem you outlined. From what you say though, it certainly makes hard work of data entry. One tip I can offer conce...

Re: Preferred Format for Places
Mike,
Depends on your idea of little, but I have just checked and I have 4250 place records, far too many to consider editing by hand.
Correction, that was highest Record_ID, but as the record ID's are not re-used, that figure was too high, and file statistics show I have 2010 places

Re: Preferred Format for Places
Mike, I have been working on this this afternoon, and have come up with a strategy that works: Remove England everywhere, so I'm starting with a known position, then add ,<space>England to every English place. Steps are: 1. Find & Replace ,England with <blank> 2. Find and Replace ,<space>England wit...

Re: Preferred Format for Places
Mike, i'll give your plugin another try, following your advice. As for the places without Country, it isn't just Kent, which I used purely as an example. For instance, I have 12000 occurences of places in Yorkshire, some of which have Country, some not. I was wondering if there was an 'easy' way of ...

Re: Preferred Format for Places
Thanks for that Mike, your reply also explains how some 'extra' spaces have appeared in my data. I appreciate why the spaces are put there (word-wrapping etc), but to be honest, I wish they weren't there, as they make auto-complete a pain if some have them and some don't! (I assume that the plugin y...

Preferred Format for Places
After seeing the post on Places , I thought I'd attempt to tidy up my list of places, wishing to standardise my Places , such that each is in the form Town,County,Country. Therein lies the snag, what is the standard/preferred way of entering the comma separators? Should I enter Town <comma><space> C...

Re: Sort Place Names on two or more fields
Mike, You know better, but I still maintain, that the screen shots as shown do NOT show column 5 sorted, and I was just going by the evidence presented. Anyone, without knowing the problem with blank fields, would have come to the same conclusion. Perhap, with a screenshot showing more more columns,...

Re: Sort Place Names on two or more fields
Mike,
To me, in my defence, both screenshots clearly show only columns 1-4 sorted, with column 5 random, hence my guess that only first 4 columns are sorted.
I'll bow to your superior knowledge, if you tell me that it does sort on 10 columns. Calico are even better than I thought

Re: Sort Place Names on two or more fields
Mike, My mistake, you are correct re sorting columns 1,2 & 3, something I hadn't noticed. However, as Davidm_uk has found out, it only seems to apply to a maximum of 4 columns! Understandable when you think about it, as 3 columns are there by default, and although Calico has anticipated an extra col...

Re: Sort Place Names on two or more fields
Brent, Show reverse order, just alters the order of the columns, it does not sort them. e.g. Town,County,Country becomes Country,County,Town, as can be seen in the two attachments showing the same entries. The only difference between the two images is that in one is shown in Reverse Order , and you ...

Re: Sort Place Names on two or more fields
Mike, Even when you sot in reverse order, you are still only sorting on one field. Ricklach wants to sort on at least two fields, Country and State, some thing I personnaly would like to do, with County and Town. As far as I can see, this is not possible in FH as it is. I have added it to the wishli...

Re: Find and Replace Not working
GSB, No consolation to you, but Edit/Find works on my FH6.2.2 on Windows 10 without a hitch. I had all boxes ticked except Match case and Match whole word. I even tried a simple number, and it found every occurrence, whether it was part of an address, date, or my custom ID! You could try exporting f...

Mike,
Thanks for the reminder. I did produce website data, which explains it. Thought it might be something simple like that.

Full Backup File Count and File Size Increased
Since upgrading to 6.2.2, I haven't done a full backup, and when I last did it, back in June, the number of files being backed up was around 10 or 12. When I did it tonight, the number files being backed up had risen to 10,000+, and the file size has increased from 18Mb to 37Mb, (I don't have any me...

Re: Automatically list facts for a 'Place'
I'd prefer a single right-click, but I can live without it. As for other data, I'm not too interested, a bricklayer in Manchester has no discernable/useful link with one in Clacton, so of little benefit.

Re: Automatically list facts for a 'Place'
Mike, Sorry, I don't follow. what do you mean? Edit: Ah, got you. I didn't realise that is what the 'records' button did, as I've never used that option. Howver, that's fine for 'work with data' window, but could method be extended to entering facts? i.e As I enter a place, right click and up pops a...

Re: Automatically list facts for a 'Place'
Mervyn, I'm afraid you too are missing the point! I do NOT want a query opened. The dialogue box works well in map window WITHOUT opening a query window. All I'm asking is that the same dialogue box is opened INSTEAD of a query window when one clicks 'where used', whatever window one is in. Mike. I ...

Re: Automatically list facts for a 'Place'
Mike, The whole point of my suggestion is to NOT use a query window, but to replace the query window with the 'dialogue' , which is a quick and convenient pop-up, (its use should not be restricted to the map window). For example, whenever I enter a place against a fact, it would be nice if, as I ent...

Deidre, For what it's worth, I still have Verdana Pro on my Windows10 PC. I did follow Mike's advice ...
