Re: Export Gedcom File for Tribal Pages
Mike, Thanks, I'll give it a try tomorrow, with a small sample of my tree. I'm having trouble with TP at the moment, it seems I have a large gedcom file, which has been stuck in a processing queue for the past week, and support have done nothing, despite multiple requests for help. Although I can up...

Re: Unable to display dialog for External File Links
Did anyone notice the 'strange' path location? It looks as if it repeating 'bruce v3 copy' in the path name! Ican see /bruce v3 copy/bruce v3 copy... As one can't see beyond end of dialogue box, does it go on ad infinitum? Could it be this that is causing the problem?

Re: Real Conundrum/Teaser
Here's a tip to determine whether gro.gov death is shown in months/weeks. After 1866, age (in years) is shown on freeBMD, so use this to compare whether gro.gov death is showing months or years. E.g. If gro.gov shows 18, but freebmd show 1, then it is fairly safe to assume gro.gov is erroneously sho...

Re: Export Gedcom File for Tribal Pages
Mike, have just up-loaded a gedcom from 2008, which has been loaded by TP.
I notice that my Custom_ID is NOT being displayed!
I now doubt if it was ever displayed. I have asked TP support for help on getting the REFN displayed!

Re: Export Gedcom File for Tribal Pages
I'll give that a try later. As for where Custom ID appears in TP is surely irrelevant. If FTM 'REFN' was interpreted correctly by TP, then as long as FH does the same (i.e. put it into 'REFN' tag), it too should work! PS Whether there is a bug in the plugin I don't know, but TP has wiped my tree. It...

Re: Export Gedcom File for Tribal Pages
Ah, got you. Sadly I don't know.
When latest upload from FH is finished loading, I'll overwrite it with an old upload from FTM! TP is being a bit slow in processing latest updates, so it may take a few days. (Can't do anything whilst TP is processing!)
I'll let you know when I have an answer

Re: Export Gedcom File for Tribal Pages
Mike, A bit late to this thread, but I have a TP tree, which I loaded from an FTM gedcom. I am willing to help in testing your TP export plugin. Let me know what you need. Edit: I exported a gedcom from FH back in November, and one thing I noticed that didn't import into TP was my custom-ID's. Which...

Nick,
Yes I was aware of the OPC transcriptions, but thankfully, FamilySearch has the actual Images!
I'm a lot more comfortable seeing the actual image - I never trust other peoples eyesight, especially when it's done by OCR!

Rocksrock, You'll be pleased to know that your understanding of Mormons and Lancashire parish registers is incorrect, ( I have just been browsing Warrington's St Elphins, parish baptism register for 1827 on FamilySearch)! What you may find, however, is that they are not indexed, and so not available...

Re: No of GG Parents and to find - Query or Plugin?
Thanks Mike,
That also explans why FH stops producing Ahnetafel numbers at 31 generations!
I did report this as a bug, but perhaps nothing will change unless Simon recompiles in a 64Bit compiler - I shan't be expecting this resolved anytime soon

Re: No of GG Parents and to find - Query or Plugin?
Jane, I just ran the plugin, and it showed a minor glitch. If one has more that 30ish generations, it hits a limit when showing no of possibles. Looking at the source code, you use integers to hold these values, which obviously have hit the maximum possible value in my case. Any idea how to increase...

Ann, Glad you have the records in the way you want them. However, if what I said in my previous post holds true, I'm afraid no end of reading will cure your diagram dilemma! I have the physical book, but it doesn't add an awfull lot to the free downloadable version. I suggest you try that first, bef...

Re: Organization of Generations
Ann, Is your thinking reversed? If I said ' I am a 3rd generation scot', it means the 1st generation was my grandfather, the 2nd generation my father followed by me. I.e the generations count from oldest to newest. You are trying to apply this in reverse, with your son as 1st generation, you as 2nd ...

Re: Reliance on subscription sites FMP, Ancestry etc.
I am truly surprised, reading previous replies, that no-one has mentioned the FREE FamilySearch website ( FamilySearch.org ). This truly fantastic site, is produced by the mormons (Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints, or LDS for short), for their own use, but given freely to the rest of the...

Re: PDF file output is not enabled
So I suspect you did not type it exactly correctly. That's my point! If one uses wrong terminolgy or wrong capitalisation, one doesn't get correct result! As far as this error message goes however, it was generated by FH, so Simon must have programmed it into FH to trap the error, so there ought to...

Re: Updating Place names
Susan, I don't know if this is the best way, but you could use find and replace, to add , England to each county name, this will only need 40 find and replaces at most (there are 40 old counties) E.g. find Essex and replace with Essex, England . This of course assume you have standardised the names ...

Mike, May I comment that despite all the hard work you and others have put into the knowledge base, it is truly spoilt by the rubbish search facility! It is no use having this wealth of information, if users can't find the answer they are looking for! If one searches for "PDF file output is not enab...

Re: Record identifiers
I'd just like to add a caveat to David's advice. Whilst RIN's will stay static when following David's advice, they may change if you 'tidy' or 'compress' the data within the 'Master' program, as this may result in wholesale changes to the RIN. From personal experience, my advice is best not to rely ...

Re: Record identifiers
Ron, As far as I see them, RIN's are there purely to link items within a single Gedcom file, and can never be relied on to stay constant within diferent programs, as I found that some genealogy programs tend to generate their own internal record indentities when the gedcom is imported (whether this ...

Re: Adding a child with no named father after mother is married
Phil, Ah, I see where you're coming from. The way round it is to show Main Tab for Mother, click the + tab as if adding a spouse, then immediately click add child. This adds the child as before, but father's name is left blank! ( i.e. NOT 'unnamed father'), which I believe is what you are after. It ...

Re: Temporary lists of Names
Off the top of my head, I'd create a flag 'Candidate' then assign it to each new person you are not sure of. This will enable you create a simple query to produce a working list of everyone you are not sure of. If they turn out to be related just delete the flag, if not, just delete the individual. ...

Re: Adding a child with no named father after mother is married
My method is to click Add Spouse in Main Tab of property box. Click create a new partner, then without adding any details, click on add child, select new or link to existing as appropriate, then enter child details. It will show his father as [unnamed person] . Basically, because you cannot have a c...
