RINs in diagrams
Is there any way in which I can show the RIN as well as name for each person in a diagram?

AS doesn't recognise second marriages?
I have been using Ancestral Sources for entering data from E & W censuses and find that parties to a second marriage are consistently given a default condition of "Wid".
It is easy enough to correct but I wonder whether I have missed some setting that causes this behaviour?

Re: TNG and FH event witnesses standoff
Just for the record, I had a long discussion with Mike on a similar topic 18 months ago (Witness role exported to TNG) and ended up with a somewhat complicated procedure which gave me what I wanted. 1. I use Mike's Export Gedcom plugin with Extra Options>Witness Role 2_SHA set to "Move to Fact Note"...

Re: Importing quarterly dates from Legacy
Thank you. I did read the page on fixing dates, but not carefully enough. It might be worth adding a line to the Importing from Legacy page in the Knowledge Base to suggest Select "Don't convert British Quarter dates to a date range" with a reference to the Fix Dates plugin. I have now used the plug...

Importing quarterly dates from Legacy
Legacy has two options for exporting dates in the format "Mar Q 2017" into a Gedcom. 1. The date appears as "Mar Q 2017" when imported into FH 2. The date appears as btw 1 Jan 2017 and 31 Mar 2017 when imported into FH Is there a plug-in or other way to convert one of these formats into my preferred...

Re: Lost query
I have adapted the standard query for Same Sex Relationships into a query which I have called Wife Finder - it was not as difficult as I feared.
Thank you for your help and suggestions.

Re: Lost query
Thank you very much Mike. I have installed your plug-in and will look at how to use it. I presume that it would not have helped if I had done full project backups more often? I think it would be better to start again rather than try to modify the Spouses query you sent. If I remember correctly, the ...

Re: Lost query
I have just looked again at the list of Standard Queries and realised that there are several not showing between "Sources for Given Record" and "Witnessed Events". It seems to be a scrolling problem.

Lost query
The main hard drive on my computer has recently crashed and I have had to re-install Windows and Family Historian on a new drive. All my project data is OK because I kept it on a different drive (as well as a backup on the crashed drive). I am using FH version 6.2.5. In the past I have made a lot of...

I have got what I wanted now by using two custom queries, both modifications of the standard query Witnessed Events, and adding the results to named lists.

I am afraid it is short term memory loss - I must have modified the All Relatives standard query.

Re: Witness role exported to TNG
In the Setup procedure you can choose between English and English UTF8, English I think being ISO-8859-1. But the TNG Wiki recommends users of previous versions to change to UTF8 because "PHP 5.6 appears to force UTF8 encoding for display" and some other reasons.

Re: Witness role exported to TNG
I thnk I have now got what I want by using my programme to edit Mike's plugin's exported gedcom. You will see on the attached TNG page that this person has witnesses to a Court, Will and Marriage event and is himself a witness at 5 events owned by other people. all with dynamic links. Perhaps I shou...

All connected persons custom query
Can anyone help me on how to add people connected by a witness relationship (both ways) to this query? I presume that in the Rows tab I need to choose the General tab and enter an expression using %INDI.EVEN-WITNESS% but I am not sure how to build the expession. Also how do you add Associated Persons?

Re: Witness role exported to TNG
Mike, I think that you said earlier in this thread that you were thinking of changing the Default setting for TNG in your Export Plugin to "Keep _SHAR tags". This will be fine if Darrin comes up with a way of inserting some sort of Event/Fact/ASSO into the Witness records, but at present the default...

Re: Witness role exported to TNG
In the Advanced Search it appears that you can search for "Note contains Role:" AND "Will Exists" but I get no results - with or without specifying a surname. I get results if I search for Birth Place, but no results for Baptism Place.
I don't understand what is going on.

Re: Witness role exported to TNG
I am sure you are right, although I would still like to know why witnesses were implemented in such a lopsided way in the first place. It would surely be far easier to put an ASSO or _WITN tag/event/thing in the witness's record when creating the _SHAR attribute in the Principal's record than to do ...

Re: Witness role exported to TNG
What I wrote was: "It seems to me that it could easily be done as an ASSO/RELA pair (ASSO is an Event containing a dynamic link but not used by FH) or by a new Custom Event, say _WITN". So I was wrong to refer to ASSO as an Event and to say it was not used by FH, but I have never suggested that a ne...

Re: Witness role exported to TNG
More apologies to you Mike, and to Adrian.
When I said that I had tried importing a file with ASSO tags into FH, the tags were at level 2. I have now tried with level 1 tags and they do show on the All tab as you said. And I have discovered how to create an ASSO in FH.

Re: Witness role exported to TNG
I understand what you are saying Adrian, but FH classes both Events and Attributes as Facts (and synthetic events) so I do not see why it does not also class ASSO as a Fact about the individual and show it/allow it to be created on the Facts tab - at least it is a real Fact and. as you say, in the g...

Re: Witness role exported to TNG
There seems to be a very fine distinction between Attributes and Events. For instance FH classes Education and Military Service as Attributes but Imprisonment as an Event. So I am happy to use Attribute instead of Event - They are both Facts for FH, except ASSO for some mysterious reason. What would...

Re: Witness role exported to TNG
Mike, please calm down. I will explain what I meant by all the things which have annoyed you if you wish but I am not sure that it is a good use of this Forum. I would just welcome an explanation of why "They do NOT get cloned into the GEDCOM data as that would contravene the specifications". There ...
